Del Mar for Wednesday 5 September 2012

Should be a battle for the Del Mar training title between Baffert at 19 wins and Miller at 18 wins and both trainers have numerous runners going today.

Best singles that you might want to consider in today's mandatory pick 6 payoff are our top choices in the 7th and 10th races.

Take note that we will be providing selections for 2 of the racing cards at the 13 day Fairplex meeting. Wednesday September 19th and Saturday September 22nd. Wednesday's card has a 50K Stakes sprint race for older horses and Saturday's card has 2 Stakes races including the Pomona Derby and is Fairplex's premier day most every year.

race 1    slightly above average clarity

2  Da Ruler    alarming drop but two positives to make me think this Baffert charge is healthy enough to run well at this much lower level........he has been tough this year with a great majority of his significant drop downs.......and.....he is in a battle for the Del Mar trainers title with Peter Miller today

3  Arabian Storm   hard to argue with 3 wins and 2 2nd's in his last 5 main track races....just claimed by Desoreaux who is solid 1st out after a claim

1  Adriatic Moon   suspicious drop here but then again this colt sure doesn't care for SA much and that meet is starting shortly

10  Hombre Hughes   decent 1st ever on the AW in latest and claimed in the race by Miller.......he will most likely need more out of this gelding and might get it 2nd out over the Dmr synthetic

race 2    average clarity

12  Wild Side Story   horrid trip in 2nd lifetime start hides a significant improvement.......and now the gelding gets Bejarano on his back......works since last are very strong.........same or more effort/energy can occur today and most likely with a much better trip with the meets leading rider aboard

13  Key Reversal    Carla Gaines 1ster hasn't missed a beat in the a.m. hitting the AW every 6 days for the last 6 weeks...wound up like a top and seemingly ready to roll

10  Deception Free   broke 3 lengths slow out of the gate in MSW debut and then showed he can run some.......might actually own some early speed if he breaks well today and this spot isn't exactly loaded with it

7  He Makes It Rain   some improvement in 2nd lifetime start and will need the trend to continue.......good sign Gomez sticks with the Gaines runner

race  3    slightly above average clarity

3  Reneesgotzip   significant Grade 1 and 2 runner runs against quite a bit softer here.....and she has fired in all of her 5 lifetime starts

6  Candrea   career record without blinkers on tracks rated fast is:   (4 2 2 0)  and Baffert is the trainer.......no blinkers today

5 Pink Lollipops   good fresh of the bench history for this Baffert charge....training well......and best career race was her only race at 6 furlongs

7  Givine    ran well in this race last year coming off a 5F grass sprint......same scenario today

race 4    average clarity

3  Global Warming   Hollendorfer is starting to heat things up and here he has a 2nd time starter that got blocked on the turn and the stretch in her debut.....probably wasn't that "meant" in debut as she went off 26 to 1........able to work 3 times since.......and gets a rider upgrade.......clean trip with a small forward move and she is the one to beat

2  Sophie's Secret   solid MSW debut last both in pace and final time.....retains meets leading rider.....should be in it from the get go

8  Boller Bomb    all 3 lifetime starts are better than par for the filly state-bred MSW level........rather unlucky not to have graduated.....would have rated higher but this is her 4th race in 5 1/2 weeks and that makes me a bit leery

9  Secred Delight   bet hard in MSW debut especially for a Kruljac runner and didn't get the best of trips yet still managed to get beat for the win by only 3/4's of a length.......probably feeling good as she is back in 10 days rest......and Gomez sticks with her

race 5   slightly below average clarity

3  Parisian Prince   solid debut in GB breaking a little slow and showing early speed in winning an uphill 6 furlong grass sprint finishing strong and galloping out much better than anyone else in the field......Simon Callaghan has been rather silent this meeting but might not be here.....have to like John Velasquez on the horse

8  He's Had Enough   very solid MSW debut win and I like that it was at 6 1/2F and that he finished well......very well bred for the lawn and the distance.......Mora has done a terrific job of taking over fo O'Neill

5  Power Broker   Baffert colt came up a little tired in late stretch in his last which was at 1 mile on the sod but with that endurance run put into him both mentally and physically he will in all likelihood have much more in the tank for today

7  Bluckleberry Grey   impressive to run a close 2nd at a grass route in your MSW debut.....and has worked a sharp near bullet 5/8ths since......more is likely today.....trainer sure could use a win

Long-shot:    9  Zeewat   won for fun in both lifetime starts on the dirt at SR and continues to train like a happy healthy horse.......turf and route pedigree seem adequate

race 6    average clarity

10  Mensa Heat   very consistent late runner is 3 for 6 lifetime on the Dmr synthetic and 2 of those victories were at 6F

8  Comma To The Top   only beaten by 2 1/2 versus much better in latest which was also a 6F sprint at Dmr......needs to avoid a speed duel with our 4th pick one way or another

9  Bench Points   2 wins and and a close 3rd in 3 lifetime races on the Dmr AW.......nice 5 furlong turf tightener 3 weeks ago sets this price shot up for a top effort today

7  Courtside   much needed time off for this Sadler charge who when he is right can set sizzling fractions and still hold together.....dangerous fresh speed horse

race 7    average clarity

5  Half Dome Dude   loves the Dmr AW and showed it in latest with a strong layoff run......with that race under his belt and a drop of one level of claiming this Peter (I want the trainer's title) Miller runner should be tough

11  Floating Feather   won wire to wire in his last on a hot day at Dmr that wasn't very kind to speed....deservedly steps up a notch......not at all one dimensional in his running style......can rate if need be

3  Magic Beam   claim back by Pender has been moving mostly forward since going on Lasix in late May......2 for 3 at Dmr........0 for 12 elsewhere....trainer will be all out to get the most out of this 5 year old

6  Shediak   good forward move 2nd out after the layoff.....nice drills since....3rd out after the layoff might be the charm

Long-shot:   9  Southern Style   tough call if this invader is ready but he sure has been facing better and Miller is the trainer....a trainer who likely would be thrilled to walk away with the Del Mar trainer's title

race 8    average clarity

5  Know More   very impressive to win a Grade 2 in your MSW debut and breezed in an impressive 1:01 Flat...won the 6 1/2 furlong Grade 2 as if 7 furlongs will be to his advantage

10  Rolling Fog   might be a little too much esoteric thinking here but this Baffert runner was a vet scratch on 21 July which disrupted his preparation and yet he still managed to win his MSW debut in a so so effort....but since that race he has put in 4 tightly spaced strong 6F drills.....very sharp now....so a significant necessary forward move might be in the cards

2  Capo Bastone   solid MSW breaking debut......and John Velasquez comes all the way from the East Coast to ride......good sign the Sadler runner is in tiptop shape

9  Caballo Del Cielo   MSW debut wasn't that impressive but he ran on a hot day at Dmr and the racing surface was quite goofy all day yielding mind boggling results....trained great prior to his debut and continues to train super since his 2nd place MSW debut

race 9    slightly below average clarity

NOTE:   11  Ghost Of A Chance    has a shot if he draws in from the AE list

1  Prettypriceygirl   18 to 1 1st out under the tutelage of Julio Canani suggests that was the sprint tune-up to muscle up and be at full throttle 2nd out after the claim and layoff.......trainer is much more dangerous 2nd out after claims and also is stout 1st time running a horse long.......hoping this filly lives up to her name

3  Stanwyck   very nice 2nd turn move in 1st ever at a route of ground in latest........would have been top choice if it wasn't for the fact Shirreffs is 0 for his last 10 2nd time long with a horse.......one of the coolest trainers around and one of my favorites seems to be in a funk with the Zenyatta is no longer in my barn blues

8  Special Charm   all 3 Dmr sprint races are quite good.....1st time at a route on the AW but has handled 2 turns on the sod....might be a better horse on the AW than the turf

4  Readyforhercloseup   18 to 1 in MSW debut for Mandella/Bejarano suggests that effort was the tune-up to leg up and go go go at a route of ground in 2nd lifetime start

race 10    average clarity

3  Quail Hill   on the improve and more importantly sure looks loose and lonely on the lead here with a very good lead rider up

1  Reachforhtebucks   useful 1st in the USA effort in last.....and the works since strongly suggest more horse will be available today for M Smith.....might be able to get a nice chase position behind our top pick

7  Veter   good late running sort will be hoping for more pace in this race than appears on paper

9  Valley Cat   lots of ability for this claim back runner for Eurton but the trouble is he seldom gets good trips even with one of the nations top jockeys aboard in Bejarano

2  Te Rapa   quite often a very hard to handle runner but he sure is dangerous when his rider is able to keep him under control

5  Silentio   won at 1st asking at 1 mile on the grass last Oct at SA.........been off since been nas been working as if he is ready fresh once again
