Santa Anita for Thursday 4 October 2012

[private]

Decent card to start week number two at the exciting Santa Anita (Breeders Cup) Fall meeting.

Best of luck to all as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Yodelin' Angel   ran an impressive 2nd in latest at Dmr despite a very wide trip......good works since.......lone race on conventional dirt is a fit

3  Tiz Lovely   toss out last.....blocked about 10 lengths........decent opportunity to get loose on the lead here.....should be plenty left in the tank today coming off of a badly blocked effort

4  Lady Shazzam   good race 2 back turf to AW........turf to "real dirt" today and just ran a much improved grass race.......bred just fine to handle the SA dirt

8  Grand Corredora   broke poorly in MSW debut then showed some life.....way too wide in 2nd lifetime start which was also a MSW affair......drops.......McAnally has won his last 3 of 9 MSW to maiden claiming

race2    slightly above average clarity

1  Ondine    Baffert runner had a useful sprint debut.........works since that MSW debut are much improved and they are at SA.......solid route pedigree......sitting on an improved effort

4  Wednesday   broke a little tardy in MSW debut and then showed plenty of life........like our top pick I believe this Carla Gaines charge will handle a route of ground and be highly competitive 1st time long

6  Vixen   Another Baffert runner likely to move forward in 2nd lifetime race following a good looking debut

2  Catrageous   not only proved that she can run two turns and close with energy but she posted a nice final time for the given day and did it running a bit wide

race 3    average clarity

2  Big Son Of A Gun   sharp claim back......good history when Cerin has been the trainer........has only been on the sod twice but the one grass effort under the tutelage of Cerin is solid here.......can sit close in a race lacking speed

3  Slammer Time    consistent sort and often gets clean trips.....also back to Bejarano who by far has had the most success on this four year old gelding

1  Scorpion   not in the sharpest of form but sure looks loose here if the 10 or the 12 don't draw into the field off of the AE list

9  Renegade Storm  back on this gelding's favorite grass course........11  2 2 3 at SA and 12  0 2 1 elsewhere.......deep closer will need more pace then anticipated to find the winners circle

NOTE:    number 12 Green Secret has a shot if he draws into the field from the AE's

race 4    slightly above average clarity

5  Mechaya   two solid lifetime efforts on the AW......1st on the conventional dirt and training as if it will move her forward

2  Beholder   scratched as my top pick in Saturday's Grade 1.....so why 2nd place here?.......that scratch makes me slightly worried that something is amiss....might be she doesn't handle the dirt at SA as well as the AW at Dmr.......murder here if she does

7  Midnight Ballet   broke slow and ran a little wide in MSW debut last and still managed to graduate from far back in dead last...... most likely a late runner again and if so she will be hoping for a heated battle up front

1  Lovely Daughter   not the best of trips in last and it was in a two turn sprint at Fpx......back to a one turn sprint this afternoon.......and.......her only one turn sprint was a 4 length win beating 9 others in only a 5 furlong race

race 5    slightly below average clarity

NOTE:   Gave out 2 additional horses in case of scratches that have a shot

3  Sumerian   Canani isn't much the last few years with 1st timers and it is very difficult to get a 1st timer to preform well in a route turf race for any trainer........so.......you can expect much more this afternoon in 2nd lifetime start.....gelding was only beaten by 2 lengths......one knock is that Valdivia has been cold the last few months

7  Raya Roya   impressive late kick on the sod in latest despite a lackluster pace up front......Bejarano sticks with the horse who is sharp in the a.m.

10  Exultant   has run just fine in 2 grass sprints.......bred well enough to get a two turn grass race......blinkers on and owns some speed.......will most likely use that speed to clear as many as possible from his outside post

9  Mojave Desert   like our top pick this colt race a decent MSW route turf debut effort......shot if he moves forward and gets a decent trip

6  Great Rising Star

12  Money Talker

race 6    average clarity

4  Morning Fog   would be 3 for 3 on main track surfaces if it wasn't for a very bad trip on 24 Aug at Dmr.....could have won by a 1/2 dozen that day with a good trip......if so we would be looking at 3, 5 1/2, and 6 lengths wins on the dirt/AW

1  Night Wind   easily best recent work tab for anyone in this field.......lone race on the SA dirt is quite impressive and is disguised by a bad trip and was his MSW debut

8  Floating Feather   1st or 2nd in last 7 of 9 races on the dirt/AW.......2 for 3 in the win column at today's distance

7  Tribal Jewel   working well at SA......and his best race of 3 lifetime endeavors is his lone effort at SA winning his MSW debut despite a wide trip

Possible Long-shot:     3  Memphis   also ran well in lone SA effort.......and comes off of a race at Dmr where he had a bad trip.....about 7 1/2 lengths of trip trouble (squeezed/wide) and only got beat by 4 3/4

race 7    slightly above average clarity

2  Cayanna   ultra consistent grass cutter and 1 for 1 on the majestic SA hill turf course.......ran well 2nd out after the layoff in 2011.......same scenario this afternoon

8  Dilly's Dancer   just claimed by Miller and training as if he has improved this proven grass runner.......filly has often had some daylight leads at the 6 1/2 furlong mark of her 1 & 1 1/16 mile grass races.......that seems a like a good fit to appreciate a grass sprint

3  West Ruler   mare needs a rebound of sorts......not sure if we will get one but she is the one to beat if she brings her "A game"

10  Ms. G. I. Jane   good grass racing credentials including races down the SA hill........just ran best dirt effort of career.......that might bode well for her chances today back on her preferred surface

race 8    slightly below average clarity

3  Morganouska    seems like a good spot for his front running style.....good history at SA......good history at 1 1/16........ and a good history with Sutherland aboard

9  Royal Encounter   3 of 4 lifetime route races fit fine here.......owns enough speed here to clear quite a few slow early types and get on over to possibly save some ground

1  Deputiformer   all three races since Keen claimed fit fine here.......7 year old does tend to hang in the stretch some the last couple of years

8  Tiz Liberty   just claimed for 20K and now alarmingly drops to 10K.......very good history on conventional dirt........healthy enough or not?......toss a coin

2  Cook Inlet   another who was just snatched at the claiming box.......trainer Mikus does decently 1st out after claims......bit leery of only one work showing in 5 weeks since the claim

6  Miles Heir   bit short fig wise on the AW at Dmr......but seems to be a better animal on conventional dirt surfaces.....likely to move forward today on the SA dirt
