Santa Anita for Saturday 20 October 2012

Less than 2 weeks

till the Breeders Cup at Santa Anita

race 1    slightly above average clarity

2  Distracting   should be able to sit in a solid outside chase position which has been the route to victory for many runners at the SA meeting so far.........good chance to be 3 for 3

1 Coup De Cour   extreme early speed + Maldonado = danger city

4  Pink Lollipops   sitting pretty if our top 2 choices duke it out on the front end

race 2    average clarity

7  Catrageous    excuse in last........"real" dirt........race 2 back at a route on the AW is quite strong........1st on the lawn and bred awfully well for it......repeat of the race 2 back and she well be tough to overcome

5  Irish Presence   blocked in layoff last in a run down the hill or had a shot at graduating.........should have some horse left being blocked and all.......1st long but bred well to handle the transition

4  Sarach   beautifully bred animal for the lawn had her prep race on the AW........full throttle this afternoon and full throttle for a trainer that has been firing on all cylinders of late

9  Villano   same trainer and exactly the same scenario as no. 4 above

race 3    average clarity

1  Really Mr Greeley   Baffert 1st timer is training as if he is ready to roll at 1st asking.....and he works as if he has some early obvious plus in a 5 1/2 furlong sprint

4  Z Big Apple   another Baffert 1ster training up to snuff to battle for the win.......what's new?

8  Mack Daddy   Marty Jones has been rather cold by his standards but he has this 1st timer training as if he is ready for his MSW debut

7  Russdiculous   just purchased in June so I imagine the connections pretty much had a handle on what they were getting.......and the works are quite strong for O'Neill who is due to start heating things up a bit

race 4    slightly below average clarity

3  Forty Paces   decent races down the hill in the Spring of 2011.......much needed 2 prep races off the extended 15 month hiatus from the recent drills........significant jockey upgrade and back on the hill........seems ready for his best

2  Shesabigbroad   laid up Mitchell runner seems better suited to sprinting yet ran fairly well in turf routes........very dangerous if fit enough off of the 1/2 year layoff.....good sign Bejarano accepts the mount

5  Promiscoussuances   only race down the SA hill grass course was a good looking win..........has fired fresh in the past and is fresh today

11  True Expectations    nice move forward 2nd out after the layoff in latest.........only grass race was poor but she might deserve another shot on the green has tossed 2 grass winners

Long-shot possibilities:    7  J And S Express   only lifetime grass race is better than appears in print and it was a route grass race and this mare really doesn't appear to be a route back to a sprint on the turf should be a much more dangerous proposition for her competition

race 5    average clarity

1  Rich Kid   seems to own the most early foot in this affair and he crushed his foes the only time he was ever loose on the lead..........and he can chase if need in he is not one dimensional

2  Tummel   on the improve in a big way and was just claimed by Canani......2 reassuring works since his latest.....rather likely to fire another good effort

7  Dramaticat   solid forward move in latest his 1st ever on conventional dirt........and since the race his works have never been better.......likely to show even more this afternoon

6  Idontrollonshabbos   consistent sort and and just claimed by V Garcia who is 8 of his last 21 1st out after a claim

race 6    average clarity

1  Relentless Heat   should be sharp coming a good layoff sprint at Fpx........and seems best on the grass.......2 for for 4 on the hill......jock upgrade......that'll do

6  Iron Joe T   improving sort.........working awfully well........and I like his pedigree to handle a turf sprint

9  Very Unusual    extremely fast from the gate.......very interesting cut back from 1 mile grass races to this 6 1/2 furlong turf affair.....wire to wire shot

10  Candy's Sunrise   the 3 times this gelding got away from the gate cleanly (in 5 lifetime starts) she ran awfully well including a solid 2nd in her MSW debut which was run at 6F on the sod at Hol

race 7    slightly below average clarity

7  American Wildfire   solid 4 furlong win/time 1st out after the claim for Spawr over at Fairplex....and this gelding has a good history running at today's 5 1/2 furlong sprint distance

2  Hidden Blessing    back to Bejarano who sure knows how to get the most out of this Heap runner........good post and a good distance.....trainer sure has had a nice 2012

6  Mack's Gold Bullet   best on conventional dirt and that includes some races on the SA surface.......also looks like the abbreviated sprint distance of 5 1/2 furlongs is a good fit

11  Dave's Pacemaker  hard to ignore 3 wins and 2 seconds in 5 races at today's distance

Long-shot possibilities:    4  Lucky Fitz   much better record on conventional dirt.....good Fpx win in last and bullet drill at SA since the win ......seems capable to handling today's step up in claiming

race 8    slightly above average clarity

6  Byrama   powerful effort/fig/win 1st ever on the hill in last...........jock has won his last 3 mounts on this nice filly....and we get 7 lbs off for today.....I'll take that

2  Teroda    very solid history down the SA hill turf course...........owns tactical speed and should be able to sit fairly close up here........and gets Talamo who rides the hill extremely well

9  Kindle    1st on the sod but appears razor sharp coming off an impressive run and than an impressive best of 60 bullet drill.........pedigree for the grass is fine and he has a good opportunity to be loose and lonely on the lead if she does take to the sod

3  Broken Dreams   best efforts are her races down the SA hill.......not out of this by any means

race 9    average clarity

1  Marv    bred well to get a route of ground and showed he can handle 2 turns in sprint races on the bullring.........and Mullins/Baze have been a stellar combo so far at SA this meeting

11  Lethal Intent   seems quite a bit better on conventional dirt and owns enough tactical speed to clear many and get on over by turn 1 and sit close somewhere near the lead.......believe he is very dangerous if he gets the 2 path or better by turn 1

3  Givimaway   fits fine but for one major obstacle......the 1 mile dirt races have greatly favored early speed and he is a late runner.....still he is the most proven route runner in the field

4  Won Won Oh Five   would have rated much higher if it wasn't for blinkers off today on an improving horse........why change equipment on a horse who is developing in the right direction

7  I Fell Free

9  Mr Superstition
