Santa Anita for Friday 26 October 2012

The 2012 Breeders Cup is only one week away!

For those of you that have been customers with us for a few months or more, now or in the recent past, we are considering a betting pool where we will select 1 or 2 gimmick wagers and any money returned will go to purchasing additional time for The Racing Digest.  Can't return cash as that could lead to some legal problems. I still have details to work out so I don't know if the betting pool will happen even if we get a good response. Please shoot us an email or leave a message on our cell 847-217-7502 asap (no later than this Sunday) if you have any interest so I can see the interest level out there. Most likely investment options will be in $20 increments.  i.e.  $20   $40   $60    $80    $100

race 1    slightly above average clarity

3  Code West   bang up 1st time on the conventional dirt in latest.......effort/fig earned (and supported by a gap of 6 1/2 lengths to 3rd) was significantly better than what it usually takes to break your MSW at most likely has a bright future

4  Prince Telelmachus   horrid trip in last.....toss it out......race 2 back he only lost to our stout top pick by 3 1/2 since his last our vastly improved......rather sure sitting on best ever this afternoon

5  Inflamed Spirit   Baffert 1st timer surely is working well enough to be ready in his 1st start.....Baffert is 20% win - 60% in the money with his last 10 1sters debuting at a mile or more

race 2    average clarity

2  Roman Charity   strong history for Glatt 2nd out after he claims a horse and that is the case today.......good chance this mare can sit in a nice ground saving stalk or mid pack position

1  Filly Power   on quite a streak in races run on main track surfaces.........3 wins - 4 2nd's- and 1 close 4th in her last 8 races.......back to Talamo who won on this filly 2 races back by a horse head short of 10 lengths

5  Real Housewife   checked a little in the early stages and blocked some in the stretch.......might have a plenty left in the the tank for today being blocked and all in latest.....good race team of Spawr/Smith

race 3    average clarity

6  Off The Wall    most likely needed last.......and sure appears like he is the controlling speed in this since his layoff effort are solid hinting he muscled up nicely off of the effort

4  Drift King   should be able to sit in a nice chase position with the others in the field far have to like that

3  Cherokee Heaven   rather sure he can sit mid pack about 3rd and if this old timer still has a good run left in him he should be flying late

race 4    average clarity

6  Hammer The Bay   Miller loves to drop to score.......last down the hill was decent........repeat of his race 2 back on the AW would nail for me it comes down to him handling conventional dirt as well and not too much else

5  Happy Together   not much on the grass or the synthetic but this Truman charge has done very little wrong on conventional dirt.......and like our top selection he is well placed to win

4  Put It There   ran fine off of the plunge in claiming price in the question is does he have at least one more race left in him......fits well versus the competition here if he does

7  The Bien's Gift   trainer smartly stopped on this horse following two consecutive clunkers and has given him some time to regroup with a nice work regiment........fits if he manages to respond to the 10 week re-freshening

race 5    average clarity

9  Marcyjane   impressive MSW debut down the hill at SA........broke tardy and ran wide and was still able to put in a stretch charge in a race lacking much pace......and now we get a jockey upgrade.......and.......Marty Jones is better with 2nd time starters

7  Wunderbar   two useful lifetime races on the AW........most likely pointed to today her 1st race on the sod which she has a stellar pedigree for......Mandella's horses have been firing on all cylinders

4  Copperopolis   awfully strong work tab for a Marty Jones 1st timer as Marty does not drill his stock very hard....and mother has tossed 3 winners from 4 starters 2 of which won on the sod

10  Eileen's Dream   plenty of early turf gas (and I don't mean flatulence) but sure gives it up during crunch time......but she might might slow things down enough....... and the rail is 30 feet out which sometimes aids early speed types

Long-shot possibilities:   5  Fantastic Mizz   flashed brilliant early speed at 2 in her maiden debut which was in a mdn30K affair at Kee on the synthetic.......shows up in the Shirreffs barn 1 year later don't see many pick-ups like this for Shirreffs......I love situations that are out of the "norm".....and......filly is working exceptional well and is bred for the turf......danger city

race 6    slightly below average clarity

5  My Samurai Warrior   race lacks speed and this price shot sat only 3+ lengths off of a torrid one half mile pace (despite having only 1 horse beat at that point)  in the Pomona Derby in his latest....and since the race he has trained exceptionally well......and we get a more aggressive rider for today

4  Planet Sunshine   barn has to be excited........1st this gelding improved switching to route racing......and then in his last he popped his best ever first on conventional dirt......and his trainer like himself is awakening in a big way

7  Liberty Cap   excuse no. 1 in latest a 1 3/8 mile affair at Fpx.......too far.......excuse no. 2.......too many turns.......excuse no. 3.........didn't like the blinkers off.........blinkers back on today and back to a distance he handles and handles quite well

2  Tweebster   few Baffert horse's don't earn their keep but this gelding hasn't in 2012......logical drop to wake up

race 7    average clarity

3  English Rhythm   consistently tries hard......on the improve with every start...... so I sure like the 2nd out (after a par like distance turf effort) off of the layoff......seems well suited for a turf sprint.....would love to get the morning line

2  Granny Calling   has done little wrong in all five sprint races in 2012 including a fast closing turf alw sprint 2nd at Churchill Downs

1  Sweet Baguette  last race that fits solidly here was her run 3 races back which was a race with shorter rest.......3 weeks.........3 weeks and 1 day this time around

6  Purim's Dancer   crushed in a cheap 5F maiden claimer on the grass at Arlington 5 weeks ago.......tough to judge how that race fits at this higher level.......but sure seems dangerous especially with the meets top gun aboard

Long-shot possibilities:   8  Floracita   vastly different much improved animal since the blinkers were put on 2 races if you ignore her 2 lackluster grass efforts without blinkers she seems dangerous 1st blinks and turf

race 8    slightly above average clarity

2  Miss Communication   for this runner to drop so drastically she probably has a major ailment but Talamo does accept the mount......filly might have a race or two left in her.....if so she should be tough here.....if not she might be last

3  Truly A Mist   on the improve......and I like the rider change from a very low % jock to a successful apprentice with his 7 lbs off.....3 reassuring works indicating little has changed since her lifetime best at Fpx in last

1  Miss Bold Topper   horse runs best with short rest......short rest today.........trainer is quite good at popping with price shots and sure is overdo for one

6  Lady Shazzam   owns early speed and cuts back to the most speed friendly dirt distance at this meeting........not impossible if a couple of others with ES don't go after the lead here

11  California Roll   Also Eligible

7  Tiz Lovely
