Hollywood for Thursday 15 November 2012

Good card to start week number two at Hollywood with four of the races rated better than average clarity and only one below.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

4  Lovemeister   solid 1st ever at a route in latest and it is somewhat hidden by..... not the best of trips........blinkers on for today and the recent works are solid....should be prominent from the get go....1 for 2 at Hollywood

3  Ballard Ruler   beat our top pick in latest but was a couple of lengths less impressive.......recent drills suggest this Sadler charge has remained sharp....should be closing fast in the late stages

2  Fighting Hussar   on the right end of the learning curve......good recent drills.....and a rider upgrade.....might be poised for best ever.......and he will need it

race 2    slightly above average clarity

3  Resisting Arrest   very solid move forward in 2nd lifetime start off of 26 days rest........2nd out after a layoff today off of 25 days rest.....and very reassuring recent drills.....seems poised for lifetime best in her 4th career start

2  Tribal Custom   bad trip-a-roo in debut.....broke slow - checked- and blocked in the stretch..........I gave it 7 lengths of trip trouble and she only got beat by 7 1/4.......and we get a rider upgrade

8  Cloudy Moon   solid work regiment for this O'Neill 1ster.....and the works hint that this filly has some early gas......good gate jock up in Maldonado

5  Medusalina   decent mc debut and this fillies conditioner is better with 2nd time starters

race 3    average clarity

4  City Zip   nicely bred for the sod 1st timer debuts for Jeff Bonde with consistently strong works.......Bonde has put both speed and endurance into this youngster hinting that he has this guy well meant & ready to roll

7  Goyathia   good 1st ever on the turf in latest earning an adjusted for trouble fig somewhat hidden by a subtle 4 lengths of trouble......good sprint races back in short rest.......1st turf race ever back in short rest.......hmmmm

1  Prime Number   two useful lifetime grass sprint races last winter......laid up since.......returns with better preparatory works than prior to his maiden debut and gets a rider upgrade.......believe fires lifetime best today in his 3rd lifetime start

6  Congregationalist   might not have liked the conventional dirt in last.....race 2 back on the synthetic is quite good......showed enough on the grass in MSW debut to make me believe he is OK on it.....need his effort/energy displayed  2 races back and I think it is about 70/30 that we will get it

race 4    slightly above average clarity

5  Deal' Em   very consistent route endeavors both on the turf and the AW for this 3 year old........just claimed by Carava and he drops off of the claim which has been historically a very dangerous proposition for his competition in the past.....and rider upgrade to 1st time Bejarano

3  Go To The Pulpit   good history turf to main track surfaces.......grass race in latest in a non-claiming affair........that race was quite a bit over this gelding's head (50-1).......drops back into claiming here back on the main track..........full throttle today

1  Showmethemoneyjim   nice win on the real dirt at SA in latest 1st time with T C Baze on his back......stout trainer rider/combo in Mullins/Baze........last race run on the Bhp AW was back in early summer and it is better than appears in print

7  Quiet Command   claimed back in mid June by Keen.....rested and gelded since.....decent two turn grass efforts last spring......most horses that handle the green stuff run well on the Hollywood AW.....fits if ready fresh

race 5    average clarity

7  Spring Bloom   very sharp better than par for the level return to the race wars in latest.......excellent opportunity to get a nice stalk position behind our 4th choice and with the hot riding Joe Talamo in the saddle

3  Little Unusual   horrendous trip in last......earned a powerful adjusted for trouble fig......jock has a good post to make amends this afternoon......smooth trip and the same effort/energy as she displayed in last and she will be murder in late stretch

1  St. Malo's Gate    extremely well bred 1st timer for the turf.........good works and strong connections.........jock has won 4 of his last 9 mounts for Carla Gaines

2  Letthepartybegin    Valdiva set way too fast a pace in latest 1st time with the blinkers on for this Ellis runner.....not much speed in this affair so if this 5 year old mare is more ratable today she might go..............all.............the...............way

race 6    slightly below average clarity

8  Warren's Rail Bird   usually the extended one turn 7 1/2 furlong races don't draw many speed types but not this time.......closer gets a great spot versus plenty of speed trying to get a tough endurance test in which the 7 1/2 furlong races often are

6  Clinton   owns some back numbers that fit fine here......much needed drop to gain some confidence after being put away badly in 3 straight alw races

7  Priddis Wildcat   SCRATCHED OUT   on the improve with every start.......solid here with another move in the right direction

2  Last Memories   soft on numbers at today's race level......but the race sure seems likely to set up for a true late runner which he happens to be......step up in claiming price and back in very short rest suggests he came out of his last race in very good shape

race 7    slightly above average clarity

7  I Dazzle   improving with every start since Van Berg took over the training duties for this filly.....last two races are better than par and now we get a significant jock upgrade......20/30 years ago it would have been a significant rider downgrade....for me P Val was that good on the grass......the best I ever saw

3  Qaraaba   3 wins and 1 2nd in last 4 races when running on firmer ground in Great Britain.......been off since July but Simon Callaghan is more than capable of having a runner ready fresh off of the bench

5  Silver Hustler   solid Midwest grass cutter has been off for 3 months but his new conditioner Eric Kruljac has put in a solid set of drills that strongly suggest that he means business with this laid up filly in her 1st start under his guidance

8  Left A Message   this filly has yet to show the form she had east of the Mississippi.....but......Tom Proctor has given this filly a little more time between races and a rebound of sorts seems likely

race 8    average clarity

7  Lite That Baby Up   not much in last but what we need is his maiden debut 2 races back......switch to Bejarano hints that we will see that solid effort......Vladimir Cerin sure has been getting the job done in the 2nd 1/2 of 2012

9  Slew's Flash   seems to greatly dislike conventional dirt in his latest.....previous 2 lifetime endeavors fit fairly well here on the drop down.....major player if he hasn't diminished any as a racehorse

3  Jay's Firetruck   tries hard in almost every start but has been a little too flat in the late stretch especially at today's 1 1 /16 distance.....most likely will need very best or a perfect trip or failures by our top 3 picks to win here

12  Surely Swift   toss out last as blinkers on sure was a today and so is an inferior jock as compared to Garrett Gomez......bad post or would have been rated much higher

5  Denny The Great    not sure why but the drills for this 4 year old maiden sure are vastly improved both speed wise and endurance wise.......dangerous sort as the connections might have discovered the trump card for this gelding

10  Red Man Run    yet to run a poor effort since the blinkers were put on......sure appears to like route racing......but he has to overcome a bad post
