Santa Anita for Saturday 12 January 2013

Not an easy card today. I wouldn't be surprised if we had another carryover to Sunday. It will be a significant one if we do.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Corlett Drive   all business here for this Sadler 1ster with a strong work regiment finishing off with 3 consecutive 6F drills.......and Sadler is quite stout with young fillies in 7F races

2  Tizmetizyou   21 to 1 in turf MSW debut and the fact that Koriner loves to score turf to dirt strongly suggests the debut was needed and a move forward is likely to occur today.....solid reassuring 5F work on the SW dirt one week ago

4  Branding   tight spaced prolonged work series for this Proctor 1st timer hints she is ready and might give Gary Stevens his 1st comeback victory

7  Iconic Spirit   bombed out on the lawn in last......MSW debut 2 back on the synthetic was solid/par like.......1st ever on conventional dirt but trains well on it

race 2    slightly average clarity

5  Run Captive Run   exits a very fast heat where running 2nd by 12L wasn't that bad.......but more importantly this Pender runner is training as if blinkers on and/or a switch to SA is greatly to her liking

8  Chila Ali    good work tab for this O'Neill 1st time starter........sure like the last 2 gate works which suggest the connections are shooting to be ready right out of the box........Krigger/O'neill have made for a good team the last 2 or 3 months

1  Firendesire   trainer Knapp won two yesterday (we had them both) and this youngster looks dangerous here dropping from MSW to mdn30K......went off at 61 to 1 and only got beat by 7 3/4 versus to race back in two weeks.....might be feeling awfully good

3  Warren's Chaser

race 3    average clarity

5  Castletown   just keeps getting better......... and better........and better........seems like speed of the speed.......and retains Maldonado who is coming off of a 4 bagger yesterday

7  Midnight Transfer   Gaines and company got a bit ambitious with this 4 year old in his last 2 starts which were run last spring.......returns versus softer and sure is working as if he is fully ready fresh off of the bench

2  Chapman's Peak    definitely seems to be on a very solid rebound......conventional dirt is a ? mark

6  Gladding

race 4    average clarity

3  Mensa Heat    layoff drop down is working as if he is ready and if he rebounds with the 8 weeks rest he sure should be tough down the SA hill turf course this afternoon

2  Drift King   arguably his best ever on the sod was his lone race down the SA hill.......last grass race run 2 back he ran solidly at Hol where he got blocked and steadied about a 1/2 dozen lengths in the stretch and lost by less than 3L

6  Cherokee Heaven   old timer gets ample time off of a win to get the aches and pains to subside.......if that's true and he brings even his "B game" he fits well here

1  Batti Man

race 5    slightly below average clarity

10  Avery's Arabesque   tightly spaced prolonged work tab with multiple gate works says this 1st timer is meant and ready......and draws Bejarano who is stout riding on raw babies

2  Janes Ship   big race last Fall at SA back in short race in 2nd lifetime start and it is hidden by a poor trip........back in short rest today and of course at SA

5  Alissa G   another 1st timer working well enough to be dangerous in her debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

7  Miss Fun Run  (tie for 4th pick)

11  Mazzy   (tie for 4th pick)

race 6    slightly below average clarity

10  Wine List   big 1st ever on the sod in 2nd lifetime start and it was at today's distance......4 wide thru-out and still managed a close 2nd.......needs a better ride from Talamo this time and from a tough post

8  Persuasive Paul   well proven at a distance on the AW.......bred well for the sod.......race 2 back is quite strong

9  Wild Student   very meaningful rider upgrade here.......blinkers off appears to be a good does the cut back in distance 1/16

5  Kings Giant

Long-shot possibilities:   1  Maxx The Giant     horrendous trip in last lost 9L and got beat by 12.......1st time gelding today and draws a better post.......potential wake up here and I think at a higher price than the 10-1 ML

race 7    slightly below average clarity

2  Fly Lexis Fly   taking a stance in this difficult to decipher Stakes race and that is that the race seemingly sets up for late runners.....good late runner here especially if he finally shows the ability he displayed in Peru

1  Battle Force   another late runner who switches to a better off pace rider in Gomez.....1st on conventional dirt but adequate pedigree for it

9  Tribal Jewel   look-out if this mid pack runner can find the 1 or 2 path by the 1st turn.....should be in the drivers seat if he does

5  Guilt Trip

race 8    average clarity

4  No Silent   the epitome of consistency including races down the majestic SA hill turf course (I would be in racing Heaven if I lived in one of those hillside homes with a great view of beautiful SA) where he owns 3 solid 2nd's in 3 hill races

1  Truest Legend   lead type only owns significant early foot and is fresh..... and fresh legged speed types can be very dangerous

5  Starspangled Heat    has never failed to put in a strong stretch run in 5 lifetime races on the hill.....very sharp recent drills......dangerous sharp late runner

9  Sweep Swap

race 9    average clarity

2  Nonrefundable   Espinoza is off to one of his best starts at a race meeting in quite some time......only race for this gelding at SA is solid......and the works hint that he is doing awfully well for a cheap conditioned claimer

11  Time Goes On   solid races on a fast surface at Haw in Chicago on it's conventional dirt main track last spring.......didn't run too poorly in the slop at Hst since June but plenty of foundation put into his work regiment.....drops and appears ready

7  Generations   both lifetime real dirt sprint races stand out at as his best two efforts to date........toss out last as he appeared to want no part of a route race....very dangerous drop in claiming runner

13  Key Reversal

8  My Last Tycoon

4  Et Tu Walker
