Santa Anita for Thursday 17 January 2013

Slightly above average card to start 5 straight days of racing at SA and I am happy to say that both Friday and Saturday are good cards.

Hoping Joe Talamo and Kevin Krigger have good afternoons as they both are our top or 2nd choice 3 times each and neither jock gets over-bet like the bigger name riders often do.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Donato   just claimed by Pete Miller and the a.m. work is solid since the claim......and Donato seems to do his best running on the SA main shot in latest as he was wide on a day the inside was quite good

3  Morganuska   best at SA and best at one mile and a sixteenth.........highly likely to get a nice ground saving stalk position

1  Graeme Crackerjack   dismal looking form on paper but the works sure have gotten vastly better on the SA dirt since arriving from GG.......rather sure this gelding makes a form reversal to some degree today

5  Anabaa Premium

race 2    average clarity

7  Derekson   on the right end of the learning curve.........solid work series is most reassuring for a cheap maiden claimer........solid race in latest was run with 43 days rest.....48 today

5  Trice Up   impressive 1st ever at a route in last........might have broke his maiden if his jock didn't make such a strong turn move a little too jock today.......Mr Gary Stevens who sure is looking good so far

4  Tiz Futurity   solid move forward in 2nd lifetime start and his 1st on conventional dirt.........1st at a route of ground today but ran his last as if the added 1 furlong will be a plus

3  Cruel Spirits

Long-shot possibilities:   1  Bud Music   trained well prior to layoff last and the race sure appeared to be nothing more then a sprint tune-up to drop and go 1st ever at a route today........Gary Stute historically is quite dangerous 1st time running a horse long

race 3    average clarity

2  Sweetrayofsunshine   3 for 3 on conventional dirt and all three races were run around two turns.......and.......only has to handle one claiming notch higher today

1  Sea Of Desire  somewhat hot rider/trainer team.......last two races are better than appear on paper......sprint-sprint-route scenario

3  Rossi Reserve   much better animal on conventional dirt.......last race at a route was at Fpx and the effort sure would fit stoutly here

8  Katy's Kitty

race 4    average clarity

4  Captain Hadley   exits a key MSW race where getting beat by 10 in his maiden debut sure fits well here at today's lower level.......also.........barn means business as this O'Neill runner is a first time gelding........1st at a route but bred well to handle one

2  Ice Cream Truck   61 t0 1 in MSW debut strongly suggests the race was nothing more than a public workout to tighten up and be ready for today's mdn30K claiming affair.......1st long with a very good pedigree to appreciate a route of ground

6  Bro Derek   not the best of trips in last his 1st ever around two turns on the dirt......significant jockey upgrade........can finish up well here when quite a few will be gasping in the late stretch

5  Rock Of Ages

race 5    average clarity

5  Cantienus   lead type only appears to be quickest here and gets the dangerous rider/trainer team on Bonde/Maldonado especially so with speed types......very impressive reassuring 5F work just 5 days ago

4  There Is No Limit   4 of 5 at the distance.......and 2 wins and 1 2nd in 3 starts on conventional dirt.........yikes

1  Trapper's Bounty    vastly improved with the blinkers back on and a return to the SA surface in latest.........and it is somewhat hidden by a bad trip........broke about 4 slow and got blocked a couple of lengths on the turn

7  Tiz The Route

race 6    slightly below average clarity    (nobody in the field seems totally out of this)

7  Exultant    tepid top pick was scratched back on 1 Dec. at GG in a race for mdn20K that was taken off the turf........terrific works good if fact that Sadler seems fit to run him in a MSW affair after being willing to run him for a 20K tag.......and.......his only race on the SA hill (albeit back in 2011) is quite good

1  Broker Brett   decent 1st ever on the grass in latest.......a 2nd place finish at 6F at Hollywood........and Sadler is dynamite 2nd time on the lawn

3  Odeon   plenty of foundation put into this Shirreffs 1ster who is bred awfully well for the green carpet......trainer has been firing on all cylinders of late.........pedigree suggests he will come from out of it

2  Lefty O'doul

race 7    average clarity

1  Double Ante   earned a good number first at a route on the main track in last......and.....lone race on the SA dirt was a good 3rd versus a solid group.........recent drills suggest she is sitting on a strong effort

5  Eblouissante   obviously a solid much anticipated debut for this 1/2 sister to Zenyatta.........visually it was more impressive than the number she scratch on 15 Dec. was a minor injury but still a concern training wise or would have made top pick

2  Viva Carina  1st time running "fresh" since her MSW debut which produced her lone win in 5 lifetime pattern hints she is ready fresh once again off of the 2 1/2 month layoff

race 8    slightly above average clarity

6  Candy's Jewel    Hollendorfer horses are firing on all cylinders........ and........ he is extremely dangerous when he drops a runner out of MSW racing......race two back run at today's distance at SA was impressive........caught too wide close to solid pace and still was only beat by 1 length

4  Stars And Moons   lifetime two best efforts for this Ellis charge (and they fit decently here) were run short to long.........sprint in last........route today

1  Soul Saver    exits a very fast heat of MSW runners where getting beat by 6L wasn't too shabby...........and now drops into a maiden claimer for the 1st time.......1st going a route but bred fine to get the 1 mile distance

9  Prime Number

5  Bipartisan

8  Gabbro Glitz
