Santa Anita for Sunday 3 February 2013

Not a very good card to finish the week. We will be back with you next Thursday. Enjoy the Super Bowl!

TAKE NOTE:  We are excited to say that in all likelihood we will provide special publications this year for all 3 legs of the Triple Crown. Last year we covered Ky Derby Day and Belmont Day. And very soon we will be offering a significant early-bird discount if you purchase all three.

race 1    average clarity

4  Lanida   Mullins is quite good 1st out after a claim with his turf claims.........filly ran very strong 2 back and that is the race that probably put the claiming bug into Mullins and his connections

3  Love Tale   back to Gomez and back to a one mile grass race where this Greenman runner overcame trouble and won in her only lifetime attempt at 1 mile

5  Mia Isabel  toss out last as 1 1/8 on the grass is seemingly a bit too far for this O'neill runner........ 2 for 6 at 1 mile on the turf........0 for 4 at other turf distances

6  Swerve

race 2    average clarity

3  Cat Pirate   16 to 1 in maiden debut (in 7 horse field) has gimme written all over it......cuts claiming price in 1/2 for 2nd lifetime start.......and.......the works since her lone start are vastly improved.......rather sure this Baltas runner shows quite a bit more today

6  Persian Kitten   not much in last.....what this mare needs is her debut effort 2 races back

5  Lady Shazzam   blinkers on seems like a smart move as it might awaken this Sadler charge who seemingly works better than she runs in the afternoon and has burned up a lot of cash in her 8 race career

2  Party In Excess

race 3    below average clarity

4  Mystery Me    best looking work regiment in this weak looking group of 6 MSW runners......also Kory Owens has won over 1/3 of his last 3 dozen starts with 1st timers.......impressive

2  Perfect Package   Drysdale is poor with 1st timers these days but this one is training better than most and this would be a good spot to break the mold

5  What A Spot    soft works but tightly spaced.....might be wound up enough to compete for the win here

1  Princess Of Pearl

race 4    below average clarity

4  Mcallister Boys   what we need here is for this 4 year old gelding to recapture the stout grass effort she ran 2 races back........Gomez rode her that day and is back up today

7  Second City   bred well to handle her 1st ever on the the fact that this gelding crushed his competition in tight turned racetracks at Hst and CT as the SA grass course also offers rather tight turns

8  Rock This Way   race is overloaded with speed so I am hoping this fellow avoids a speed duel one way or another

10  God Of War

6  Tamarack Smarty

3  Green Secret

race 5    average clarity

5  Solar Rocket   excellent history (and numbers) running at today's 6 1/2 furlong distance......race lacks speed and he owns some

3  Half Dome Dude  new barn for the 3rd straight time in a row........Hess is adequate 1st after the claim........last two efforts for this gelding can fit here provided the 5 and the 7 press each other some

6  Stoneside    very consistent sort has only run on conventional dirt 2 times in his 45 race career but both of those efforts fit fine at today's 20K level

7  Urban Hunter

race 6    average clarity

2  Dress Code    good rider/trainer combo.....and Belvoir is quite dangerous 3rd out after layoffs......powerful race last April at SA at 1 mile with the turf rail in......looking (hoping) for that race today

3  Dream Speakin'   rather sure very sharp right now (love the near bullet work since his stout last race) and would have been top pick but he looks somewhat "pace compromised" here

5  Maybe Tuesday   dangerous on or near the lead chance here in a race lacking speed.......tremendous win history for Gryder on this horse

10  Shadow Runner

race 7    above average clarity

2  Game On Dude   man versus boys

1  Clubhouse rules    rides the rail...... passes number 5...... and holds off number 3......and dreams that our top pick has a very bad day

race 8    average clarity

4  Roust 'em Bertie   impressive 1st ever on the grass in latest........decent fig and and the winner of her race came back to win her next start

6  Maddog Maddie    toss out last on the grass as it was far from being firm which I think she needs........race run 2 back on firm turf is quite good

5  John's War    jock change and upgrade after a brutal trip in debut......broke 5 slow, ran somewhat wide, and got blocked 2 or 3 lengths in the stretch.......did well to only get beat by 9+ in the 1 mile grass affair

3  Warren's Cracker

1  Rebelution

7  Alissa G
