Santa Anita for Thursday 7 February 2013

Sure seems like a very good card this afternoon with 3 races rated better than "average clarity"........and not one race on the card was difficult to decipher thus there isn't any race that is rated below "average clarity".

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Ten Plush   O'Neill thought enough to ship this horse to Pim along with the "big horse" and she won her MSW debut like a good thing........up for 25K claiming so this isn't a tune-up.......but connections might be hoping to lose this filly or just grab an easy score fresh off the bench......obviously I'm leaning on the latter

2  Cat'sdoubledaygirl     laid up since Spawr claimed in mid October but the works suggest he's bringing this filly back ready to roll and she is racing at one claiming notch lower than he snatched her for at the claiming box.......and we get a rider upgrade

4  Strange Luck   impressive forward move and easy win in 2nd lifetime start last out after a layoff sure seems like a good thing for this Yakteen 3 year old filly

race 2    slightly above average clarity

3  Bodaway   somewhat suspicious drop but in this case the trainer is going for 4 for 4 at the SA meeting......the colt only cost $2K..........and he has been absent since May.....and it is highly likely he handles these if he is in OK physical condition

4  Sacred Ovation   vastly improved early speed in last with the blinkers put on and his 1st out under the tutelage of Peter Miller.......drops significantly below claiming price......very dangerous gate to wire individual in this spot

5  Bubba Fizz   1st three lifetime races fit considering today's level of racing......4th lifetime race doesn't......but laid up since that race in Oct but training as if the rather hot M Mitchell has him back to what he was

2  J J Be Chillin

race 3    average clarity

5  Will True Up   last time this colt was able to sprint on the turf was 3 races back at Hol and he fired a strong effort with today's rider up.......also I sure like the two solid tightly spaced drills just 5 and 10 days city

3  The Whole Deal   race lacks early gas and this colt has plenty on the AW and conventional he takes to the grass in his 1st race on it he should be able to get extremely loose and lonely on the lead..........

1  Procurement   route grass races fig wise are very good at today's level but this deep route closer will have to come from way back in a grass sprint and in an affair lacking speed.......still he ought to be flying late and flying with an outstanding turf rider with late runners in the name of Garrett Gomez

6  Rafale

race 4    average clarity

7  R Doubleday   back awfully quick but Pender has been making all the right moves of late.....and....this filly sure looks loose on the lead with a stout speed jock aboard in Pedroza

5  Suances Vixen   significant drop down for this Vienna runner who has been absent for 2 1/2 months.......lone lifetime win came on a significant drop and it was the only drop into claiming ever for this filly 4 year old.......trainers/owners are often creatures of habit

1  Arinyes Love   two of her lifetime best races ever were back in very short rest of only seven days......this gal last ran on 31 January

6  Secret Genius

race 5    average clarity

6  Bake To Bako   done little wrong in 5 lifetime starts......1st on the green carpet but bred well to handle fact seems well enough grass bred that it might be his preferred surface.......we shall see

3  Real Heat   big effort 3 races back on the dirt and it is disguised by running wide on a good rail day......yet to run as well on the grass but bred nicely on both sides to appreciate the since 23 Nov. but has trained awfully well in the interim.....and Bejarano and his agent elect to stay with the horse.....deserves another shot on the turf

9  Rob's Pal    needs ample time between starts and Mullins shows patience and gives it to him......and this gelding just keeps getting better........and better.......and better........and

8  Dark Red

race 6    slightly above average clarity

9  Rossi Reserve    7 wins of 17 races on conventional dirt surfaces.......and all 4 races on "real" dirt run in 2013 are quite solid for today's running level including her last which was run at today's 1 mile distance

7  Melanistic    distance is a question but sure likes conventional dirt with 6 wins in 12 starts on it......trainer has done a nice job with his limited starters in 2012-2013

6  Sheskey     effort and fig wise she fits fits fits fits fits........but........she hangs hangs hangs hangs hangs.......maybe jock upgrade can break the habitual habit this afternoon

5  Plazarita

race 7    average clarity

4  Tiz Argent   only 12 races lifetime races and now 6 years into 25K is quite logical for this well worked layoff drop down of John Sadler's.........3 wins, 1 2nd, and 1 3rd in 5 lifetime alw races rated firm 3 of which were in open company alw.

5  Motown Men   has a great chance to find the wood on the 1st turn as there are 3 slow horses starting inside of him and he has plenty of way or another he will need to avoid a suicidal speed duel in this race with plenty of early gas

1  Unusual Beam   5 for 6 in the money on the SA grass course........and 4 for 5 in the money at today's turf distance.....tends to hang but back to Nakatani who won on this Abrams runner by daylight 5 races back

6  Our Boy Bejamin

Long-shot possibilities:   3  Teafatiller   nice return to the race wars in last after a 10 month layoff and the effort is disguised by a wide trip versus better......likely much tighter today......gets a better post.......and he is a closer in a field with plenty of early speed types in the race.......and Eswan Flores is riding better than his record indicates

race 8    slightly above average clarity

3  Remind Mee   exits an extremely fast MSW heat (both final time and pace wise) where chasing and getting beat by 14 lengths fits well at today's mdn 30K level......and owns a solid reassuring 5 furlong work since.......seems to have remained sharp for Diodoro who is having a bounce back meeting

2  Silk Indian   solid move forward in last his 2nd lifetime start and 1st on "real" dirt and 1st with the blinkers on.......last fits fine both final time and pace wise........any forward move would be icing on the cake

10  Cut To The Front   caught 4 wide pressing the issue up front and rightfully tired as almost all would........nicely hidden.......and a good sign that Bejarano sticks around to make amends

8  I'll Run The Show

5  Alsace

4  Indian Spirit
