Santa Anita for Friday 1 March 2013

Early bird sign-up for special Triple Crown publications (which will save you pennies shy of $30) is now available for a limited time only.

Because of the seldom occurring carryover in the 50 cent pick 5 I added a horse (that is not impossible to see winning) in races 1, 2, and 4.  Best pick six single on the card is our top selection in race no. 7.

This is not an easy card to say the least. Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly below average clarity

2  One World    somewhat of alarming drop but the works suggest this 5 year old is still in relatively good health........and I doubt his owners and trainer (Zenyatta's owner/trainer) would embarrass themselves with a dismal unhealthy effort

3  Broadway Nika   seems at best sprinting on the dirt......step up in claiming and improved a.m. work strongly suggest this Litt runner is doing very well

1  Valentine Boy   2nd at this level in latest but more importantly working significantly better since his last.......seems sharp

5  Sun's Out

6  I Run For Fun

race 2    average clarity

1  Wild Media   on the improve with every start and his last is hidden in that he dueled in nasty pace on a somewhat dull inside.......and the winner of the race crushed the field in an alw race yesterday as our top pick.......good chance to be loose here but can chase if need be

2  Candy's Jewel   last 2 times this horse ran on the conventional the efforts are solid and both are quite a bit better than appear in print.......and 1st time as a gelding today......might settle down and get a better trip

6  Incline Village   bad trip in debut or could have been right there at the wire.......then seemed to dislike the off going in his 2nd lifetime start......should be sunny and fast for today

8  Caveman Keno

5  Oliver's Tale

race 3    average clarity

7  Wild Student    easily best ever (and the effort should fit here) was run off of 47 days rest with a low % jock up.........48 days rest today with high % jock up........and returns as a 1st time gelding..........hmmm

3  Street Maven    plenty of intent to be ready in mc debut here......Kitchingman worked this 1ster copious furlongs including twice at 1 mile to have this well bred colt (turf & distance) ready to roll in his debut at a mile on the turf

6  Say Ow   nothing special to date but the recent drills are awfully good and the field doesn't appear to be the strongest.....and Canani has been hot

1  Grand Giant

race 4    average clarity

7  Memo To Kathy   seems to be in good form when most of her competition seems suspect health for one at the somewhat specialty extended sprint distance of 7F

6  Latin Lashes   trains like she is in relatively good health but this is an alarming drop......toss a coin

2  Rossi Reserve    not the best of trips in last but still seemed to fall off of form some......needs to rebound.........4 lbs off can help get one

9   Roll Your Eyes

3  Maya Angelina

race 5    average clarity

2  Sidepocket Run   showed life on the grass sprinting in MSW debut last.......more importantly Warren is dismal with 1st time starters and fairly good with 2nd work tab and good grass jock stays aboard

7  Patriot C H    Gaines 1ster is training as if she might be ready at 1st asking.......and she is bred quite well to handle the has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters including a Grade 3 winner and a turf winner

10  Puff Pastry   seems somewhat improved since the blinkers became part of her arsenal 2 races back........would have rated higher but she tends to hang and her trainer is dismal with MSW runners

5  Lakeside Bride

race 6    slightly below average clarity

2  Follini   1st timer is working as if ready and seemingly catches a soft bunch.....Stevens/Glatt have hit the board together as a team in last 7 including a nice upset win of an odds on horse yesterday as our 3rd choice

9  Indian Classic   solid effort/fig in lone lifetime start back in June 2012.......been training quite nicely for his return to the race wars......would have rated higher but long layoff stout efforts are not Hector Palma's strong suite historically

3  Bob Consultation   might be vastly improved off of mc debut run for Carava for him to step this fellow up so much.......recent 4F drill supports this.....much better than what he showed in the a.m. prior to his 1st out

5  Feathers Inthe Sky

race 7    slightly above average clarity

4  Surfcup   very few debuting MSW runners attempting a turf distance race win when they have a brutal trip but this Baffert colt did......since then the horse has somewhat smoothed out the kinks on the main track......back to the sod here as a much less green running individual and gets 1st time Bejarano

2  Back to Bako   inside post at one mile on the grass and owns early speed.....a dangerous combination

1  China Prince    improving youngster didn't handle the off going in last too well.......1st on the grass but owns a decent pedigree for in the a.m.......trainer is 6 of 10 1-2 at the meeting so far

race 8    slightly below average clarity  (splitting hairs for all 6 here)

6  Party Bus   significant drop out of MSW for this runner that has only seen the sod.......race 2 back is very stout here if this filly can run as well on the dirt as she did on the grass that day......tough call if she can

2  Medusalina   6 1/2 seems too far in last......back to 6F looks like a good thing......can be in the race from the get go with a good speed/gate jock up in Maldonado

11  Circular Logic   debut fits.......her last does not......somewhat alarming for most barns but not necessarily for Mike Mitchell's

5  Tiz the Bliz

7  A Drop Dead Diva

8  Song of a Witch
