Santa Anita for Friday 8 March 2013

Early bird sign-up for special Triple Crown publications (which will save you pennies shy of $30) is now available for a limited time only.

Off track very likely today. Selections in races 3, 5, and 7 are for the main track as the races should be off the turf. Average card at best for today.

Best of luck as always!

race  1    average clarity

2  Lord Vronsky   extremely consistent especially on conventional dirt including 1 for 1 on an off track.......just claimed by Spawr and he drops one claiming notch.....4 for his last 8 dropping off of a claim........shooting for 8 top choice winners in a row going back to yesterday

1  Key Reversal   lived up to his name in work since last says he has held his form.......bit concerned about his ability on an off track but his poor effort on one might be because the race was off a layoff......we shall see

3  Lone Justice   sleeper on an off track run 2 races back looks bad in print.......but in reality he handled the off going.......caught 4 wide pressing a stout pace and rightfully tired......did well to only lose by a dozen lengths

race 2    average clarity

7  Charming Chandra    takes the ever significant drop out of MSW racing into a low priced maiden claimer.....turf fig earned in last fits well if she can duplicate it on the main track today....decent pedigree for it

3  Stormy Pleasure   1st timer is training up to snuff the be ready for her debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

2  Glorious Memories   fig/effort 2 races back fits well since June but returns with a solid work series for Puype that hints he is meant and ready fresh off of the bench

1  Speedy Vixen

race 3    average clarity

(picks are for the main track - extra horse given with scratches likely)

8  Cinsation    impressive MSW debut win for this Bonde runner who continues to work like a nice filly........bred to handle the main track.........owns solid early foot here.....should be in it from the get go which is often an advantage on off tracks

4  Mum's Truckee    toss out fig in last as this Miller trainee sat too far off of a lackluster pace......significant effort/adjusted for trouble fig 2 back on the turf.......1st ever on conventional dirt and 1st ever in a sprint are ? marks

9  Tribal Custom    fell off in last following 2 solid efforts.....trainer smartly gives the filly a break in the p.m. and he is attempting to get her back in peak form with her a.m. work

1  Always A Chance

7  Wild In The Saddle

race 4    slightly below average clarity

5  Toledo Eddie   GG invader seems to be a better horse on conventional dirt and gets back on it this afternoon.......and draws Bejarano for a N Cal trainer which seems like a good indication this gelding is doing well

6  Buds Pal    Canani seems to be putting speed back into this gelding with a couple of bullet 3F works........might be on or close to the lead is speed doing to this point of the day?

7  Idontrollonshabbos    last might fit in this spot but probably needs a rebound to his races 2 or 3 back

1  Willie Brown

race 5    average clarity

(picks are for the main track)

6  Funny Belle   owns some early speed and handles it off.....decent chance to sit on or near the lead which appears advantageous in this spot.....1st after the claim by Conlon and she has won 7 of her last 22 1st after a claim

5  Street Savy   another who is proven on an off track.......filly should be fit today coming off a grass race at Tup (following an eight month layoff) and back in 20 days

7  Nice Meidel   might be best on the conventional (2 1 1 0).......the two turns she faces today seems to be the question mark.....owns a decent pedigree to handle it

1  Inner Grove

race 6    average clarity

6  Italian Rules     4 wins and 2 2nds in 6 races on "fast" conventional track is likely which is a first for this consistent runner.......she handles the AW as well as the conventional fast track why not the off going as well

2  American Act   off since May but training like she might be ready for here best......stout here if she brings her "A game" and handles the off going

Castletown   Bob Baffert charge might be speed of the speed here.......5 year old has never seen an off track but I like her breeding to handle one

5  Saddleranch

race 7    average clarity

(picks are for the main track)

2  Atticus Jack   1 for 1 on convention dirt.......recent grass races are better than appear on paper especially his effort 2 back......good post and good speed in this spot as well

8  Rock This Way   proven on conventional dirt......likely loose on the lead here if he takes to his 1st ever on the off going.....speed did fairly well yesterday

7  Warren's Wild Thing    fits fine here if he brings his "A game"......ran a decent 2nd in his only race on an off track........most of the trainer's runners have been out running their odds the last few weeks or so

1  Mr. Make Believe

race 8    average clarity

10  Chili Ali   exits a fast heat at today's same maiden claiming level where this filly managed 2nd despite a wide trip.......claimed by Mulhall and she puts a nice reassuring 4F drill into her....seems poised to repeat another strong run

2  Victoria's On Fire   takes a significant logical drop here and this 3 year old is training on the SA dirt like her 1st ever on it's surface will be a good thing

7  Callous Effort   lone race run at Pid way back in August fits fine so work tab but that doesn't always mean much for a Puype maiden claimer

11  No Fear Baby

3  Lady Delaney

5  Charliana's Secret
