Santa Anita for Saturday 9 March 2013

Early bird sign-up for special Triple Crown publications (which will save you pennies shy of $30) is now available for a limited time only.

OK card today (after a very difficult to decipher first race) if the track dries out evenly after all the rain.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

2  Night Dance   tepid top choice ran a race at today's distance of 6 1/2F two back that fits well here.....and the race is somewhat disguised by a poor trip

7  Floracita   filly needed last in what looks like a gimme at 40 to 1 in a non-claiming race.....if so and she repeats her prior SA dirt race run on 8 Oct 12 she fits fine here

5  Amy's Outburst   seemingly out of nowhere this mare displayed sizzling fractions on the lawn in last.....and since the race she popped her best drill in quite some time.......might be feeling really good

4  Sunland Vintage

race 2    average clarity

8  Craigmont   broke badly in layoff last and then ran well from there........very solid work tab since......likely sitting on a nice forward move 2nd out after the layoff

7  Unsurp   25 to 1 in layoff last has gimme written all over it for this Carava runner........8 year old gelding has never missed the board in 4 races at today's distance

5  Chinese Praise   some shot if the rated track surface is truly "fast" but this fellow appreciates a little moisture in the racing surface and there might be some left in it......much better chance at the winners circle it there is

3  Solar Rocket

race 3    average clarity

2  Baron Von Red   last looks like the gimme to tighten up and drop and go go go 2nd out after the layoff for this Sadler runner who is 1 for 1 at the distance

1  Donato   might be feeling awfully good coming off a soft paced easy does it wire to wire wear and tear

6  Spit Ball   improving by leaps and bounds and just snatched at the claiming box by the capable Ron Ellis........last is somewhat hidden.....broke a slow and ran wide and still won going away

4  Muchos Besos

race 4    slightly below average clarity

(if off the turf average clarity 6-1-9-5)

6  Marinda   sure took the SA hill turf course in last winning in decent time and visually looking quite stellar .......trainer/rider have won their last 3 together

4  Demonsterous   another who really appreciated her 1st race down the SA hill grass course......4 year old filly just missed at today's level despite breaking a tad slow and running somewhat wide

8  Madre Luna   well proven on the hill.......likely will need a good trip or a small move forward to win this affair

5  Lemon Hero

race 5    slightly above average clarity

7  Red Telsa   squeezed an unlucky 7 (lengths) when last seen 1 year ago and only lost by 1 1/2L......earned a significant adjusted for trouble regiment strongly suggests Baffert has him ready to roll and why not as he is now a 5 year old maiden

5  Celebrity Status   displayed significant early gas in his MSW debut 2 races back.......failed to fire on the grass in last......back to the main track today......might be very formidable on the front end of things........and with a good speed rider aboard

2  Dockweiler   Headley 1st timer is training as if he is meant and ready to roll........good rider/trainer team in Stevens/Headley

1  Russel's Run

race 6    average clarity

(if off the turf average clarity 2-3-12-6-9)

2  Cacau    1st timer is very well bred for a turf route and has been training as well as any 1st timer from the Avila barn in many a moon

12  Perfect Set    ran out of his mind 1st on the grass in latest.......running 3rd despite a brutal trip........and now he gets a much better jock on his back.......would have been top pick if he didn't have such a difficult post to cope with

3  Lemon Drop Dream   easy to toss out layoff last which was run on an off track.......nice work tab since.......both lifetime grass races which were run in the Big Apple fit fine here

4  Democrat Duck

race 7    slightly above average clarity

3  Goldencents   very impressive in all 4 lifetime starts for Doug O'neill who would love to be part of the Triple Crown scene once set of preparatory drills for O'Neill since I'll Have Another.......hmmm

2  Flashback     both lifetime races for this Baffert 3 year old make him one of the top contenders in this Grade 2 affair......also training quite impressively

5  Hear The Ghost   very solid move forward in 2nd lifetime race which was his 1st on the SA main track......nice series of longer drills since in preparation for his 1st at a route of ground.....very well bred to handle one

6  Tiz A Minister

race 8    average clarity

(I believe this race will definitely stay on the turf as it is being run late in the day and is a Stakes race and besides I don't have a clue if this race was moved to the main track)

12  Sky High Gal    impressive win from a far outside post in a 1 mile Stakes grass race in last.........same scenario here and this time she seems to have very few quick early competitors to clear and get on over by turn 1.....good chance to make it 4 in a row if she does

1  Magnificent Shirl   just keeps getting better..........and better........and better...........and better.......and draws a nice post with 4 lbs less for today's big challenge

7  Sarach   vastly improved in last.......might move forward again especially considering who trains and rides this filly......both trainer and rider are having terrific SA meets

9  Flashy Ways

Long-shot possibilities:   3 Akiss Forarose   came flying in lone lifetime race on the turf (in a small Stakes race like today) despite much pace to close into.......good long-shot rider over the years in Mojica......will need a great trip but might upset the apple cart if she receives one from Mojica

race 9    average clarity

2  Warren's Parolee   last was a par like effort for today's level........trained as if he is even sharper for today..........likely to be on or near the lead with a stout speed jock in the saddle

9  Patriotic Lion   lead type only (at least so far) will most likely be pedal to the floor from the get go to clear and get over.....shot if he does and sets a semi-reasonable pace

7  Solid South    wide trip in last.......his 1st ever on the dirt........somewhat hides a par like adjusted for trouble effort.....1st long on the dirt but he has somewhat shown he can handle two turns on the grass

1  Gabbro Glitz

10  Swiss Emperor

8  Midnight Raven
