Santa Anita for Thursday 28 March 2013

Average card at best today which starts the 4th to last week of racing at majestic Santa Anita. Seems like it just started.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

6  Wild Media   both lifetime races at SA on "fast" tracks are rather strong efforts both in pace and final time.......adds blinkers for today and cuts back 1/2 furlong in distance......both look like positives to yours truly

2  Southern Sunrise   powerful MSW debut followed by an even better effort in his 2nd lifetime start in the spring of 2012.......will take this race if repeats his 2nd lifetime start.......beatable by our top pick if he repeats his MSW debut

4  Fly High   decent 2nd in lone lifetime race run back in June of 2012......will need better today versus two much better than average maidens in the 2 and 6........but.........working quite a bit better than last year.......Baffert runner might be vastly improved.....and he will need to

race 2    average clarity

2  Halfapondarosa    nice mid pack running style.........4 wins and 5 2nd's in 10 races at today's distance......somewhat of an alarming drop but Bill Spwar likes to win races and the mare is 8 years I am obviously leaning towards this gal being in good enough health for today's race

1  No Tricks for Jack   trainer has woken up this meeting......decent recent work tab.......yet to have run in a race at 6 1/2 furlongs but her running lines hint it will be a good fit

4  Church Avenue   negatives: alarming drop off of a win and (6 0 1 0) running on fast rated conventional dirt.........positives: seemingly only has the 6 horse to beat out for the lead and appears somewhat faster and Hollendorfer is 8 for his last 23 (30%) dropping off of a win

6  Secret Genius

race 3    slightly above average clarity

6  Suances Luck   one of Darrell Vienna's best trainer stats is with maiden claiming 1st timers......and he sure is showing plenty in the a.m. with his new filly.......last 3 works are solid and especially for Vienna who doesn't really push them too hard in the morning......showing speed in her drills and is also bred for speed.......and only has to cope with 5F

2  So Pretty   nothing special about this filly but she does have early obvious advantage in this rarely carded 5 furlong dash

3  Torbeka   1st timer doesn't exactly own fast works but they are tightly spaced which might have her wound up and ready for her maiden debut......and mom has tossed 4 winners from 5 starters

5  Goodtobewild

race 4    average clarity

2  Showme Yourfriends   dueled in very solid pace in last and rightfully tired.......did well to only get beat by 5L........last 2 long to short races on the main track resulted in wins........1 mile turf to 6 1/2 on the turf here.......jock upgrade to a resurgent Victor Espinoza

3  Big Note   1st run in the good old U S of A for this Mitchell runner might have been needed.......if so.......lookout today versus easier for this invader from Great Britain

9  Ivanho   improved runner since Mitchell claimed 3 races back.......last two efforts are slightly better than par for today's level

4  Buffalo Billy

Longs-hot possibilities:   1  Legal Separation   owns efforts/figs that fit fine here if he can manage the same in his 1st ever on the sire is off to a good start as far as producing turf runners is concerned and mom has tossed 3 grass winners.......decent layoff run at GG in latest and a near bullet 4F work since

race 5    slightly below average clarity

6  Egg Drop    filly fired her career best in latest in a 6 1/2 furlong sprint which was her 1st ever on "fast" rated conventional dirt........repeat of the effort in today's route race can put her in the winners circle......can't tell much about her lone route race as it was run on the AW at Kee and she started very awkwardly in the race

4  Saturday Nite Ride   nowhere in a sprint MSW debut with the blinkers on in Sept. at SA.......better with the blinkers off in 2nd start (and at a route) which was on the synthetic at Hollywood......BINGO in 3rd start which was another route race and was run on the SA conventional dirt surface.......very solid here if moves forward again

2  Include The Cat   just claimed by Sadler off a win and he seems to mean business as he puts this mare up for the same price (same alw cond.)

race 6    slightly below average clarity

3  Grand Berry    Richard Mandella in 43 starts at the SA meeting has been 1st or 2nd in 23 of them......very with that and a good work tab in mind my guess is this new horse in his barn is ready to strut his stuff and has a chance to show the prowess he displayed back in 2011 and early 2012 in ARG

4  Dubai You X Y Z   Tsagalakis sure has a handle on this 6 year old gelding as he always fires including fresh off of the bench like he is today.......1st on the hill but my guess is he should handle it just fine with his smooth running style

2  Koast   2 for 2 on the SA hill course course winning both races convincingly.....laid up since August of 2012 but trains as if he is more than ready for his return to the race wars for John Sadler

5  Carbonite

race 7    slightly below average clarity

1  Blushing Angel   just keeps getting better.........and better.........and better..........and stout series of works since her last says this Sadler runner will keep the trend intact today

7  Sweet Factory   believe this filly surprised Headley & company in that she won her MSW debut without support at the windows (20 to 1).......she probably wasn't all the cranked up for that race under her belt and a nice bullet 6F drill since she has a good shot at making a nice necessary move forward today

8  Miss American Pie   this 3 year old filly has down little wrong in two lifetime starts and she continues to work as if she might handle the step up in competition for the 2nd straight time

5  Spooky Lady

race 8    average clarity

4  English Rhythm   all four lifetime two turn grass races fit rather solidly here.......and this is the 1st grass race under the tutelage of the ever dangerous Mike Mitchell......and especially dangerous when he rides his new son-in-law Julien Leparoux

1  Sweet Baguette   last two turf mile races run by this mare suggest it is her favorite distance.......trainer/rider have made for a good team the last few weeks or so

7  Cuvee Exchange   this filly did not embarrass herself running against the opposite sex in last in her 1st ever on the sod......1st at a route today with a pedigree that is better suited for sprinting but she likely can handle a mile on the grass.....but not much further

6  Suances Vixen

8  Shewhomustbeobeyed

10  Tanquerray
