Santa Anita for Thursday 11 April 2013

Decent card to start the 2nd to last week of racing at beautiful Santa Anita. Hollywood starts up on April 25th for 49 days of racing and we have unusually owned the Hollywood Spring/Summer meet in the past and plan to once again this year!

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

5  Rolanda    Sadler charge takes a logical significant drop in claiming..........1st ever on the dirt but has always trained very well on it......and his pedigree suggests she is more likely to be better on it than the grass

7  Tiz Anna   seems to appreciate the somewhat specialty distance of 7 furlongs........and the trainer Vladimir Cerin seems to be awakening of late.......race has a distinct lack of speed and this filly has some especially in this spot

6  Nonna Reese   improving with each and every start and her last move forward is somewhat disguised by too wide of a trip.......trainer has had a nice meeting

1  Janes Ship

race 2    slightly above average clarity

5  Treatherlikealady   last conventional dirt race run in April of 2012 is very strong and would overwhelm these here if this Krujac runner repeated the effort or anywhere close to it......off 11 months but training well.......in for a tag so I doubt this is a tune-up

4  Granny Calling   nicely improved since the blinkers were added two races back.......owns a nice stalking style.........1 win and 2 2nd's in three races on conventional dirt

1  Pincelada   blinkers on today for her new trainer Jorge Periban and assuming she trained with them on she might be a dangerous fresh speed front runner here off of some sterling a.m. work

race 3    average clarity

4  Warren's Dr. Boo   2 for 2 at the distance........3 wins and 1 2nd in 4 lifetime races on conventional dirt........and trainer Guitierrez is likely having the best meet of his life.......that'll do

6  Sun's Out   probably wheeled back way too quick (6 days) off of the claim by Carl O'Callaghan.......also blinkers on in last......blinkers off today.......race 2 back is much better than appears in print

1  Hidden Blessing   8 for 8 on the board at the distance........claimed in last........fits a ton if he is still in good health.......but I am slightly leery of the drop in claiming especially when not one drill is showing for the new trainer over a 4 week period

5  Agility

race 4    slightly below average clarity

4  Amulay   toss out 3rd lifetime start as this Charles Stutts runner didn't care for the turf........ran 2nd despite a horrendous trip in maiden debut 3 races back.......ran 2nd once again in 2nd lifetime start with a better but still not so hot of a trip........same effort/energy with a more settled trip and she is the one to beat here........come on 0 for 25 Iggy

2  Proud Buck   decent maiden debut in last breaking slow and running wide for a 4th place (5 1/2 beaten lengths) finish........drops a notch........should be highly competitive here if she gets a better trip and makes a logical move forward in 2nd lifetime start

6  Alissa   owns good early foot in this spot.....might be loose on the lead........cut back from 1 mile to 7F is often a good thing

5  Charlsie's Song

race 5    average clarity

7  Kuro   vast improvement 2nd out after the layoff and it is hidden somewhat......broke a little slow and was caught wide close to an honest pace......same effort with a better journey will be tough in this spot

8  Cragmont   like our top pick this Headley gelding ran a strong effort 2nd out after a layoff......similar energy today will make him a top contender here

2  Idontrollonshabbos    consistent sort seems to be at his best in races 6 furlongs or less........ and 5 1/2 furlongs might be the distance that suites him best

4  Key Reversal

race 6    average clarity

9  Regime   strong MSW debut run.......caught 3 wide in a fast heat and still managed 2nd.......continues to train like a top new prospect for Carla Gaines...........very reassuring that Bejarano stays aboard off of the 3 month and 1 week layoff

2  Tiz Midnight   yet another Bob Baffert 1ster training as if he is meant and ready to roll in his MSW debut.......is there anybody better on the planet than Baff with MSW debut runners? I highly doubt it

8  Tribal Syn   Howard Zucker hasn't done much with 1st timers the last 3 years or so but previously to that he had a few MSW's that ran awfully well in their debuts.....and this newbie sure is training like a runner of some merit

3  Fashion Secret

race 7    average clarity

3  Top Kisser   had to argue with 2 wins and 2 2nd's in 4 lifetime starts 3 of which were on the grass....last grass race was particularly solid running a nasty quarter and still holding on for the win

7  Miss Well Molded   you think Mike Smith fits this horse (5 2 2 1).......other jocks (5 0 1 0.....4 of which were Bejarano or Gomez)  and this filly is yet to miss the board in 4 races at the distance

6  Candy Trophy   improved some in last two races since Ted West claimed.......could upset with a clean trip or if our top two selections falter some and/or have bad trips

1  Melanistic

race 8    average clarity

4  Sofos Quick Logic   trainer has been in the doldrums for an extended period of time but can break out of the slump here with this 1ster timer who is training sharply and works as if he has some early foot........and this is a 5F race lacking speed.......you don't see that occur very often

7  Talk Of The Town   another 1st timer who appears ready to roll and seemingly catches an very soft group of those that have previously raced

9  J Man     laid up since August but has run OK fresh in the past and most of his 8 career races fit fine at today's mdn 20K level

5  Quick Cenizas

6  Warren's Burgler

8  Gloria's Lucky One
