Santa Anita for Thursday 18 April 2013

[private]

Last week of racing for the winter/spring meeting at the majestic art deco facility which is.......Santa Anita Racetrack.

Tread the waters carefully today as I found this card difficult.

race 1    slightly below average clarity

2  I Don't Care Who   Art Sherman runner is at his best in two turn races on the main track and 1 mile looks like a good fit as he finished strong to win his lone race at the distance.......very sharp in the a.m.

4  Tiz Snazzy   nicely improved since this Victor Garcia 4 year old was gelded three races back.......recent work regiment hints Garcia means business today

5  Langfurs Lightning    trainer is quietly having a good SA meeting and has been very dangerous when Pedroza gets the call........seems likely to get loose in this spot with a good lead jockey aboard

race 2    average clarity

2  English Rhythm   very consistent in all 5 lifetime two turn grass races and her lifetime best was the only time that Talamo was in the saddle

6  Four Better   so so in latest......needs a rebound to her race 2 back.......lookout if we get it

5  Tornado Allie   another who needs a rebound.......and this time a rebound to her race 3 back which is quite strong and disguised by a bad trip......she was wide and checked a length on the back stretch

3  Suances Flower

race 3    slight below average clarity

7  Knuclebuster   laid up over a year but this 1st time Marty Jones runner is working as if he has improved with the switch in barns.......only one lifetime race is strong here but I believe he might run that effort today as the work regiment is impressive for Jones who doesn't push them too hard in the a.m.

3  Southern Heart   lifetime best was turf to dirt......placed in route turf race in last and at a level with little risk of being claimed.......now drops back where belongs in a sprint dirt race 2nd out after the claim by Gallaghar

4  Dashing Ash   nice improvement with the blinkers off in last......owns good early speed and has a stout speed jock in the irons in Maldonado

5  Dark Timbers

race 4    average clarity

8  Spectrus   Shirreffs is good with grass 1st timers and the work regiment for his debut runner leads me to believe that this gelding is meant and ready for his MSW debut........and I like the fact he is 4 when our next 3 selections happen to be 3

1  Cacau   set a nasty pace at a mile on the sod in his 2nd lifetime start and did well to hang on for a tiring 3rd.......blinks off today........most likely to slow him down early......and.....cut back to a sprint bode well for his chances to finish with vigor in the late stages

2  Uno Dos Adios   solid first ever on the grass layoff run in last.........away 8 weeks but working as if that won't be a hindrance.......stout rider/trainer team of Smith/Spawr

3  Misdeed   1st time gelding wakes up many a runner

Long-shot possibilities:   6  Panayiotis   trainer sends out very few 1st timers so stat wise there isn't much to evaluate but.....the works are fairly impressive.....tightly spaced prolonged work series and finished off his work regiment with a best of 52 4F bullet work just 4 days ago

race 5    slightly above average clarity

2  Just Because   only race with the blinks on run on a fast track is better than par for this maiden 20K level......and today we get a significant rider upgrade......and.......trainer/rider have been red hot as a team of late

3  Saint Leo   useful mdn claiming debut.......should be tighter and drops a couple of claiming levels for 2nd lifetime start this afternoon

7  Heavenly Road   sharp bullet 5/8ths drill prior to a poor route race in last..........decent 3F work since.......might deserve another shot back sprinting which might be a better fit than a route for this Tom Bell runner

1  Vitorio

race 6    slightly below average clarity

8  Bonnie Lesley   invader from GB had a decent U S of A debut and the works since strongly suggest more can be expected today.......horse had speed in Great Britain and there isn't any speed in this race......come on slumping Valdivia......break this runner out of the gate cleanly or at least better than last time

3  Macha   one of the hottest rider/trainer combinations in the Country in Hollendorfer/Bejarano and this is the 1st time he rides the Hollendorfer runner which leads me to believe this three year old filly is feeling awfully good

7  Lilbourne Eliza    Euro invader looks dangerous here......consistent in all 4 lifetime starts including her maiden debut where she beat 12 0f 13 foes......so fresh off of the bench seems doable

4  Joeandbetty'sbaby    tie for 4th choice

5  Pusstcat LIps    tie for 4th choice

race 7    slightly below average clarity

8  It's Aine   lone win came the only time this three year old filly ever got to run in a sprint on fast rated conventional dirt........that should be the case this afternoon.........should be legged up and tight 2nd out after the layoff and coming off of a route race

1  Jesse's Giacomo   good forward move in latest so the red hot Doug O'Neill smartly steps this filly up 2 claiming levels........Saul Arias is having a rough meeting but not on this 3 year old

4  Wellington Beauty   yet to miss the board in all 4 lifetime races.....but both wins came off of short rest.........laid up since November so she will need to break the mold this afternoon......in for her lowest claiming tag ever helps

5  Sacred Delight

race 8    slightly above average clarity

1  Light of Life   been facing better and competing fairly well especially in races run at 1 mile on the turf.......needed layoff last and draws well today......not my favorite grass rider these days but he seems to fit this horse rather well

5  Cuvee Exchange   par figure/effort for today' level in latest......3 lbs less to carry this afternoon.....same one mile turf distance.........and Krigger gets to start from a better post

2  Cavalleta   very consistent filly on the grass......and she did very well to finish 2nd in last running very wide........much better post in which to start for today....... might be the most likely to hit the board but she has a tendency to hang in the stretch thus the record of (5 0 4 1) on the grass

6  Callous Effect

9  Medusalina

4  Warren's Flasher
