Del Mar for Friday 26 July 2013

A reminder that early (money saving) sign-up for full card selections on a great day of racing at Arlington Park (Arlington Million Day) closes on Sunday. Arlington was on my radar for over 20 years before heading west to cover S Cal racing.

So so race card today but I am finished studying 6 of the 10 races for Saturday and so far things look good.

By now most of you realize I have been studying for an inside condition on the main track which causes a speed bias. careful each day as I doubt the track will stay this way for very much longer. Keep an eye on early races.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

7  Flashy Dame    seems to run best with Bejarano on her efforts have come sprinting on the synthetic.......likes 6 1/2F........owns some speed...... a valuable asset at Dmr so far

8  With A Miracle   last sure looks like a layoff turf tightener in a non-claiming event to drop and go in today's much softer condition claiming spot.....lone race on the Dmr synthetic is fine

6  Disco Lemonade   definite on the right end of the learning curve.....claimed by Bonde in latest and the trainer is quite dangerous 1st out after snatching an individual by way of the claiming box

9  Coco De Carchy

race 2    slightly below average clarity

1  Distinctive Passion   extremely quick early on both dirt and AW.........eye popping recent speed work.......and I like the breeding to take (well enough) to the sod.......loose and only 5F to hold the together

2  Circa'sgoldgear   off since late Feb. but runs well fresh and 1 for 1 at 5F on the turf at Dmr.......likely to get a decent ground saving stalk position

4  Basmati   should be able to chase the leader or grab the lead if the 1 horse doesn't strut his stuff in his turf debut.......5F on the sod seems like it will be a good fit examining his turf sprint running lines

race 3    average clarity

5  Salt Power   owns decent early speed and has left the gate in good order in both lifetime starts.......would have been much closer at the wire in last but was blocked a couple of lengths in the stretch.......Belvoir is off to a good start at Dmr

4  Golden Dynamo   obvious gimme/turf tightener in MSW which if you plug the race into his work regiment it kept intact a tightly spaced work series hitting the track to work every 6 days or less since June 12......seemingly all wound up and ready for this low priced 2 year old maiden claimer

1  Short Sword   first timer has trained well enough to be ready for this maiden claimer.......Mitchell is starting to heat things up......and most everything Garcia rides for him has be firing to some degree

6  Punxsutawney Phil

race 4    average clarity

2  Black Witch    good speed in this spot and working sharply......all 3 lifetime races on or in close contact to the lead are good efforts.....and that sure looks like the case here

4  Lady Asano   very big race albeit in the slop 2 races back at SA......rank and wide on an inside condition and still won by over since early March but training as if she is meant and ready fro her return to the race wars

3  Branding   good horse......good trainer.........good rider..........but likely might need a less speed biased racetrack late this afternoon to put in her best showing

race 5    slightly below average clarity

6  Sweet Millicent    very aggressive solid work regiment for a maiden claimer 1ster........and Hollendorfer is outstanding with mc 1st timers (37% winners from last 75) has tossed 3 winners from 4 starters and all 3 precociously won at 2

1  Mia's Storm   solid work tab for this Mac first timer........consistently decent drills and tightly spaced........signals a happy healthy youngster

5  Diamond Dena   another maiden claiming debut runner with decent works and a broodmare that has tossed 2 winners from 2 starters and both were able to win at 2

9  Ascription

race 6    average clarity

(10 Warren's Blossom has a shot if gets in)

1  Sweet Assay    good early speed and draws a good post......but more importantly never trained better......low % jock on the main track but not on the grass......very rare

4  Darling Dodie   Mandella is off to a good start at the Dmr meeting.........filly needs to be ready in her starts as she needs ample time between starts.......6F grass races are better than her 6 1/2F grass cut back to 5F might be a plus

6  Madre Luna   arguably her best ever was back in very short rest and the race fits here.........back in 19 days today and that surely qualifies as very short rest

7  Shrinking Violet

race 7    way below average clarity

Found this race absolutely impossible to decipher so I went to all the double digit morning line runners that I like in this affair.

1  Mr. T Bird   big move forward in last winning at 1 3/16th off a layoff which is never light.........and this Puype runner must be doing awfully well for him to place him in a Grade 3

2  Lime Rickey   proven he appreciates marathon running and many in here are not......... including some of the favorite in this 1 1/2 mile grass race

10  Rousing Sermon   runs and owns a pedigree that suggests a marathon race will be right up his alley.......actually I am more concerned about his ability to take to the sod on his 1st ever on it

8  Grandstand

race 8    average clarity

6  Here's To Rose   last was OK but the works since hint that better should occur this afternoon......filly owns good early speed and unless the racing surface radically changes from yesterday that is a very good thing

3  Holiday N Newport   both lifetime races fit well here......claimed in last and his new conditioner is off to a hot start at the new meeting......good gate horse so far and touch of speed......a nice plus

8  Dolphin Shorts   rather sure this Mitchell 1st timer is ready to roll off of a tightly spaced prolonged work series......and mom has tossed 4 winners from 4 starters including a Stakes winner..........hopefully she owns some early speed

7  Shand

4  My Best Ten

5  Elegant Bel
