Del Mar for Wednesday 31 July 2013

Average card at best today. Hoping veteran Victor Espinoza has a good day as he is our top pick in 2 races, 2nd pick in 3 races, and 3rd pick in another race with 7 mounts for the day.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  It Doesn't Add Up   check getter but has yet to win since Autrey took over the training duties........drops to score here something the trainer has not been afraid to do at the Dmr meet so far.......good early speed in this spot that somewhat lacks it

4  Afleet Cowboy   consistent sort and made a somewhat hidden move forward in our top pick he also owns enough early speed to be in the thick of things from the opening of the gate

2  Position A   6F might be his best distance......the Dmr synthetic appears to be his favorite surface........likes contact near the front and it looks like he can be here especially with Maldonado on his back

3  Domonation

race 2    average clarity

1  Cravin' the Heat   very solid move forward (albeit on the turf) in 2nd lifetime start on the drop likely she will move forward 2nd out after the layoff on the AW today and again on the drop down.....after all trainers are for the most part creatures of habit

8  Jen's Hot   work series hints this Lewis 1st timer is meant and ready for her mc debut.......I especially like her last work which was her 1st on the Dmr AW and it was vastly better than any other of her drills suggesting she really loved the surface

2  Songsmith   obscure laid up Cal-bred hasn't raced since 2010 at 2 and her two lifetime races were on the grass in GB......those races fit well here fig wise and she is bred better for main track are decent

4  Little Bit Cactus

race 3    average clarity

6  Awesome Address   improving sort just needs to repeat his latest to be formidable here.....the question seems to be if he can repeat the race with 54 days rest versus the short rest of 20 days he had in his last......a top conditioner at the helm to get that accomplished

5  Spring Up   nice wake up maiden breaking win in last.....claimed by Sadler who is really becoming quite dangerous claiming maiden claimers

4  Langfurs Lightning   back to Stevens and he sure has been on "live" mounts and riding great.......4 year old gelding should be able to get a nice close up ground saving trip with the 8 for 19 at the meeting G Stevens at the controls

2  Solid South

race 4    slightly below average clarity

8  Prime Number    just claimed by Cody Autrey and he takes the blinkers off......good recent 3F drill hints the change in equipment might have done some good......big races 4, 6, and 7 races back that would handle these even with a mediocre trip

1  Beast Of Bourbon   claimed in last.......and it might be a good claim by Diodoro as this gelding really woke up in last and it is hidden by a bad trip.....better trip and same effort/energy had this fellow fits solidly here

2  Hurry Home Clever   best ever was 35 days rest sprint to route........37 days off here and sprint to route once again.......hmmm

4  Lite That Baby Up

Long-shot possibilities:   3  Warren's Joe T.   lead type only will get a loose lead here if he winds it up early as he did two races back setting very strong fractions.....and he did it after breaking a little slowly and dueling on a dead rail......and that folks does anyone in

race 5    average clarity

2  Awesome Okee   dull drills (and no support at the windows) prior to MSW debut in late April in a race on the AW at Hollywood.......solid work regiment leading up to today's race which is on sod.......and he is bred well to handle the guess is a go and at a price

9  Brave Act   solid early speed in last and tired late at today's grass distance of 1 1/16th........can if today's new jock does a better job of reserving something in tank this Truman runner might be very formidable come crunch time

3  Little Professor   decent MSW debut especially considering this Machowsky gelding went off at 38 to 1.....probably surprised the barn some......big bullet 6F drill since.......very likely that he is all set to compete for the top prize

4  Volkonsky

race 6    average clarity

8  Morning Fog    GG invader is very consistent including 4 for 8 at the distance.....and his only race at Dmr is quite powerful only losing by a neck with 8 or 9 lengths of trip trouble by my 7+ weeks but training like all systems are go

7  Ballard Ruler   very strong MSW debut at Dmr 54 weeks since Nov but working as if Salder has pointed this colt for the Del meeting........last work is very stout......a 6F bullet work at Dmr and it was just 6 days ago

3  Indian Classic   not much speed from the #1 or #2 horse so Espinoza ought to be able to get a nice ground saving (as opposed to a wide trip in last) mid pack or stalk position to possible set things up for a good stretch run

2  Sourdough Sam

race 7    average clarity

2  Solid Wager   definitely on the improve and his last effort fits solidly here but he will need a better trip and of course take to his 1st ever running on the Dmr surface

1  Gangnam Guy   on the improve with every start and the recent drills hint the trend will continue this afternoon........seems like the speed of the speed in this affair with the meetings leading rider aboard

6  Moving Desert   another on the right end of the learning curve who really took to the Dmr surface in his last......and the trainer is starting to wake up out of the doldrums

7  Better Bet

race 8    average clarity

8  Athina Lee   laid up following two MSW races last since and returns with a new higher % trainer and running for the lowest maiden claiming level at Del Mar..........quite often when a new trainer agrees to take over the training duties of a given horse he will only do so if the owners are willing to run a horse where he has an excellent chance to win......believe that is the case today

2  Party Bus    nice wake up run in latest with a much less successful apprentice aboard than he gets this afternoon.......the drop of 1 claiming notch doesn't hurt any either

4  Warren's Chaser   trainer is very reliable when he displays some works of merit.......laid up since mid Feb. but runs for the lowest maiden claiming tag to date and gets in very light today with an apprentice up who has looked OK on a horse so far

6  Margies Rule

3  Huera Bonita

5  Tap Tap Ur It
