Del Mar for Thursday 22 August 2013

Decent Thursday card this afternoon.

Great to hear from four people (so far) who benefited from the DQ yesterday and also the late scratch in race no. 2 as to hit the pick 5 twice.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

3  Beast of Bourbon   solid forward move in latest and it is disguised by a bad trip of multiple trouble and some pace........claimed by Ellis and he smartly steps the youngster up in claiming price.....should be in the hunt from the get go and likely one tough about a usually stout trainer that could use a win

1  Hardliner   dangerous inside speed here........can improve off of a good 2nd (at the same level as today) for Peter Miller as it was his 1st ever run over the Dmr surface

2  Money Canon   better than par sprint 1st over the Dmr AW when you adjust for being wide on a good rail day.....connections hoping the 1 and the 3 both go hard after the front end.......very dangerous runner if that occurs

race 2    average clarity

7  Hey Cowboy  most definitely on the right end of the learning.......won last even with a bad trip.....same with a smoother journey will be tough here.......more will be icing on the cake

4  Only Josie Knows   significant pace wake up in last albeit on a good rail day......but........has a shot to be loose once again 1st time at a route and she's coming off of some good looking a.m. work

6  Cotton's Point   last fits fine but the race was a sprint.......this runners lone route race wasn't anything special yet it looks good on paper.......but........being that the trainer is Hollendorfer he might deserve another shot running long

1  Toomanytomatoes

race 3    average clarity

4  Irish Surf   hello marathon running.......Hendricks runner sure liked going 1 3/8th on the turf in last as he fired his best ever by quite a bit......won despite a wide trip.......only carries 0ne more pound today and gets a better post.....same energy/effort with a little better trip today and he will be very tough

1  Extensive   total lack of speed types in this affair..........seems to me this Cerin runner might have the most and go after a slow paced front running position.........that of course makes his fanny very dangerous

2  Dreamcatcher   lifetime best was the furthest this Sadler runner ever raced which was at 1 1/4 on the 1 3/8th has a good chance to be to his liking

race 4    below average clarity   (not one total toss out)

6  Smokin' Ten   Yakteen has had a good Dmr meeting including with some of his babies......and.....he seems to have this two year old colt sharp and ready for his debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

4  Uptown Big Brown   decent work tab for this 1ster.........especially like his last 6F drill.......GG trainer is capable with 1st timers and he has done better with his stock at this meet than his record would indicate

3  Redstone   solid MSW debut at Pln in June........tossed a clunker in 2nd lifetime start maybe back in too short of rest.......plenty of rest to be able to make a rebound in on the Dmr AW suggest he appreciates the surface

7  Hobbits Hero

race 5    average clarity

6  Warren's Judy   plenty of speed in this affair can sets things up nicely for this late runner who is well placed to win..........2 for 3 at Dmr........0 for 7 elsewhere.........nice works since winning last

4  Lanida   exits a fast heat where she did well to only get beat for the win by 1 3/4's considering the solid paced duel......she can run just off the pace and that might be a wise choice here

11  Dilly's Dancer    trainer (who could use a win or two) is good 2nd out after the claim and he is also good route to sprint.......and that is the case for both today.........and of course the drop helps

7  Koko Loca

Long-shot possibilities:    9  Sean S   exits a fast heat of 20K claimers where her effort fits here at the bottom level of 8K........trainer has had a tough year but might get things jump started here with a multiple level drop 2nd out after a layoff.......he won the last time he dropped multiple levels and with a decent win payoff

race 6    slightly above average clarity

2  Midnight Lady   last two races fit fairly well here but what we want and think will get is her debut effort 3 races back........sizzling bullet 5/8ths drill might have her very sharp for this afternoon

1  Let's Get Frisky   done little wrong in 4 lifetime races on main track surfaces........last is somewhat better than looks as this Kruljac runner ran wide on an inside condition

3  Here's To Rose   best ever was her last and it was her 1st ever on the Dmr synthetic.........and her race is also hidden some by a wide trip on a good rail day

8  Jen's Hot

race 7    slightly above average clarity

3  Winning Prize    very special runner from Argentina sure seems ready to roll fresh off the bench in his USA debut......pointed to bigger or better things in the this race won't be too much of a prep as sometimes Grade 1 winners running off of layoffs sometimes are when placed in non-Stakes races........conclusion........$85K purse is nothing to pass on

6  Chips All In   ultra consistent grass cutter had a solid layoff run in last........fits well if makes a small logical move forward 2nd out after the layoff this afternoon......good grass conditioner at the helm to make that happen

5  Boat Trip    Pender is red hot........colt had a nice layoff turf sprint 8 days ago.........both lifetime 1 mile grass races are decent..........seems poised for best ever this afternoon

4  Ivanho

race 8    average clarity

4  Ascription   blinkers on for this 2nd time starter..........exits a fast heat of mdn50K runners where she was caught wide on an inside day........solid works since and drops down to a mdn30K race.....and her trainer has picked up the pace the 2nd half of the Dmr meeting

7  Sweet Milicent   OK debut........blinkers added for today / impressed gate work-out / good trainer with 1st time blinkers........move forward in 2nd lifetime endeavor seems likely

9  Tookmebysurprise   both lifetime races fit well here......but not an easy post at 5 1/2F especially for a 0 for 30 apprentice up.....needs to use the fillies ealry speed and clear most of the field or all  as to be not too wide on the turn

2  Jade And Sauci

6  Wild Marini

8  Ivana Come Home
