Santa Anita for Friday 27 September 2013

Difficult card to decipher in quite a few of the races. Great card on Saturday as I have studied the first 9 of 11 races. Ten more races on Sunday. Nice size fields for all three days. The economy sure is improving according to the handle at Del Mar and the size of the fields this summer / early fall.

Great to be back. Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Loan Savant   solid awakening in 2nd lifetime start (and 1st at a route) and it is somewhat disguised by a bad trip.......too wide and checked on the 2nd turn.....blinkers on to help her focus.......trainer has been firing on all cylinders the last couple of months

2  Georgia   useful MSW debut recent 4F drill on the SA dirt.........and.......Bob Baffert is quite good 1st time at a route with a two-year old........fillies pedigree is better than average for route racing

7  Be Proud   all 3 lifetime races fit here for this other Baffert entry........handled two turns OK (albeit 7F two turns) in a small Stakes race at Bsr

5  Lady Bugatti

race 2    slightly below average clarity

5  Infosec   awfully decent drills for this Baffert 1ster considering the level of sire is off to a slow start but has a shot to improve his stats here

2  Preacher Roe   tightly spaced 5F and 6F drills at GG for this 1st timer who bothers to ship on down to L.A........seems wound up and ready to roll

12  Steppingood   speed-ball will try to clear from a difficult outer-most 12 post........decent shot to wire the field if he does

4  Oh Daddy Oh

Long-shot possibilities:   11  Code of Pleasure   trainer is quietly having a good 2013.........and he is quite dangerous with maiden claiming 1st regiment hints this colt in meant and ready for his mc debut

race 3    average clarity

8  Truelee Scrappin   acted up in last and still ran well at one notch lower........better horse on conventional dirt.....likes the 7F recent 6F drill......and the step up in claiming says that Mitchell likes how his five-year-old is doing

1  Chicsdigtheshark   race lacks speed and this Spawr runner has some......2 for 3 at the distance including a gate to wire win from the 1 hole at 7F and it was at SA

7  Bergman   on the improve and runs well with 4 to 5 weeks between races and gets that time interval for today

4  Bank The Eight

race 4    slightly below average clarity

5  Cunco   impressive wake-up in 2nd lifetime start 1st on the grass and 1st at a route......dueled in stout pace and rightfully tired late.......trainer is hot of late and Pender is ultra dangerous 2nd time on the turf

4  Max The Giant    vastly improved runner since Cassidy put the blinkers on this three-year-old-gelding

1  Navarre    lack of works suggested this O'Neill runner from France needed his USA debut and should be mush more fit and ready in his 2nd lifetime start in the USA......and he is a 1st time gelding today........seems well meant

6  Carlsbad Mountain

race 5    slightly below average clarity

13  Hurry Home Clover   significant forward move in last and it is somewhat hidden by a bad trip.......repeat of the effort with a cleaner trip should make him the one to overcome if of course he handles his 1st ever run on the SA dirt

4  One World    not the healthiest of runners but fresh legs today and in win when you can before it is too late

1  Norm's Passion   laid up Bonde runner drops down multiple levels of racing and returns as a 1st time gelding......Bonde is quite stout when he drops multiple levels winning about 1/3rd of the time

2  Shenzhou

race 6    average clarity

3  Love De Car  2 for 2 lifetime and  most impressive 1st on the grass in last........5F time at Dmr was faster than nw2 open alw on the same day.......bred fine to handle one and one half furlongs more on the sod

6  Appealing Tale   all three lifetime races sprinting on the AW fit......1st on the grass but bred extremely well to handle the green carpet.....stout trainer/rider combo in Miller/Gomez

1  Ankeny Hill   another solid rider/trainer team in Stevens/Glatt........colt is very quick early.......1st on the sod but like our 2nd choice he is bred just fine to run on it

2  Yankee Rebel

race 7    slightly above average clarity

1  Tiz The Truth   very strong move forward in 2nd lifetime race back in early Feb. at out after the layoff sure seems like a full throttle go for today and on a surface that this Baffert runner sure seems to appreciate

8  Omega Star   very stout recent 5/8th's work and runs well on Santa Anita's conventional dirt........stellar rider/trainer combo in Bejarano/Hollendorfer

4  Soul Candy   3 of the last 4 races on main track surfaces since D'Amato took over the training for this gelding fit and are hidden by poor trips

9  Northern Iowa

race 8    average clarity

5  Unbridled's Note   not much more to say then loves the SA hillside turf course and won this race last year

7  Rock My Baby  seemingly never sharper both on the grass in the p.m. and working out in the a.m..........and he has handled the SA hill quite well in his only 2 starts on it

1  Et Tu Walker    great way of going at least on flat turf sprints.......deserves and has a shot at the big time today if running down the hill doesn't mess up his good-looking stride

8  Chips All In

race 9    slightly below average clarity

1  Fly High   good early gas in this spot and shortening up in distance 2 1/2 furlongs........might have enough endurance built up to be in the hunt from start to finish

9  Wilcat Candy   fell off some in latest but race run 2 back is quite strong versus these and it is hidden by a bad trip.......sure like that top jock sticks around.......rebound city to some extent seems likely

10  Tale Be Told   good return to the races war following an extended layoff of 16+ months.....good works since including his last which was at SA.......last race fits fine......more would be icing on the cake

8  Patriotic Landing

12  Mary Helen's Storm

2  Running Waters
