Santa Anita for Thursday 10 October 2013

Main track was outside and off pace last Sunday but the temperature was some 25 degrees warmer. Keep a keen eye on how the rail is doing in the early races.

Not very excited about today's card even with putting in some extra handicapping time because of the large pick 6 carryover. At least Friday's card is a good one.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Miz Wounded Knee    major awakening in latest.........and very good drills since especially for a filly 10,000 claimer.......significant likelihood this afternoon of a repeat of last or better

3  Ghost N Your Heart    just claimed by Vann Belvoir and the trainer is quite stout 1st out after a claim especially when he drops a given horse one level.......two turns and the conventional dirt are ? marks - but a good pedigree for both

8  Tornado Allie   not the best of trips in last (over at Fairplex) 1st out after the Puype claim and at one level higher than echelon rider will be out to make amends reassuring 4f drill since her latest

6  Tribal Rain

race 2    average clarity

5  Scherzinger   on the improve with every career start with few reasons that the trend won't continue in this Hollendorfer's 4th lifetime start.......and retains the red hot Mike Smith

1  Corlett Drive   solid history racing at 6 and 6 1/2 furlongs (5 1 2 2) on any surface.......and the SA conventional dirt might be his favorite surface........lone lifetime win came the only time today's rider Joe Talamo was up

2  All On The Table   nice move forward in last ......."blinkers on" and 2nd out after the layoff.......good history on conventional dirt......rather fresh mare as this is only her 3rd out following an 8 month break

race 3    average clarity

5  Husband's Folly   10% trainer these days but not with "claim repeaters" where Carava is 29% wins over his last 90.......last fits

7  Danderek   cut back in distance of 1/8th seems like a on the front end but needs to avoid a duel with our long-shot selection

6  Mr. Candy Bar   much better horse on the grass and his last on the AW might have been his best ever on a synthetic says he might be primed for one of his best races ever on the turf

8  Barney Rebel

Long-shot consideration:   1  Anythingscookin   believe the 7 horse takes back some which puts this gelding on the lead in all likelihood........and......she is a much different horse when loose

race 4    average clarity

4  Goodhumorgirl   decent MSW effort at Bsr in 2nd lifetime start just missing in race with a big gap to 3rd and then to 4th.....only runner proven on real dirt in the race

7  For Emma   plenty of foundation put into this Miller 1ster.......has hit the track every 7 days since 27 July......and the last 6 works were at 5F or 6F.......a good work regiment to be fit enough to get the 6 1/2 furlongs

2  Strollin Home   Tom Proctor 1st timer seems all wound up and ready to roll showing some decent tightly spaced works

1  Lady of the Nile

race 5    slightly below average clarity

3  Pink Blossom    strong grass wire to wire win fresh off of the bench when last seen of 30 since but working as if she is ready "fresh" once again......seemingly only has one other speed horse to put away in no. 5

1  Always A Chance   appreciates ample time between starts and gets it........last race is much better than appears in print......just missed despite breaking bad and running very wide.....Talamo knows this runner well having ridden her numerous times

8  Lilly's Perfect   fell off (at least fig wise) in last but Mulhall claimed her back and she got the most out of this six year old mare 2 races back on the sod.....repeat of the effort would make her tough here

6  Miss Well Molded

race 6    average clarity

3  Scarly Charly   very impressive in both lifetime races at Santa Anita last winter........1st at a route today but just worked a stellar 5/8ths and the trainer Janet Armstrong is quite good 1st time at a route

4  Secretsatmidnight   lone lifetime race back in Jan. for this Baffert colt is much better than appears in print.....had multiple points of trouble......prolonged impressive work regiment has ready written all over it.......draws the red hot Gary-ageless- Stevens

2  Crucero   no stranger to route racing as all 4 lifetime starts have been distance affairs.......recent drills on the Santa Anita dirt are reassuring in that his AW races at Dmr are better than his dirt races at Crc

1  Wicked Finance

race 7    slightly below average clarity

4  Segway   best ever was off of a layoff on 14 Oct 2012 and the effort is hidden by a bad trip-a-roo......fresh today and returns as a 1st time gelding......Mandella has put into his gelding a couple of stout 1 mile drills strongly suggesting he wants this fellow ready to roll fresh off of the bench

6  Holladay Road   overdo drop for this Canani four-year-old who has hardly earned his keep in at one alw level lower should put him in the mix for the circle of joy this afternoon

8  Lumberyard Jack   very good history when put up for 40K as he is today......continues to train like a happy healthy horse for O'Neill

2  Shadow Runner

race 8    average clarity

4  Make More Money    trip from you know where in last in her 1st ever on the synthetic and the 1st ever under the guidance of Jeff Mullins......would have graduated by many with a clean the ? seems to be can Mullins get her to run better on the "dirt" than she seemingly did in Arizona and Colorado for a different trainer (19% trainer)

5  Reddaxle   not much in 3 lifetime races and she has been away since 14 Jan 2011 but she sure is training like a vastly improved runner for her new trainer Tom Proctor

1  Truly Beautiful   laid up since Nov. but returns at the lowest level of her life where both lifetime races fit well here

13  on Also Eligible list   Angel's Moon

11  Full Of Spice

9  Harlan's Trick

12  Silver Gun Girl
