Santa Anita for Saturday 12 October 2013

Not easiest of cards today but rather interesting with quite a few price shots.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

6  Tenkiller Kid   last two route races on the AW at Hol in the spring are better than par for this level.......1st on the grass but most that run well on the Hollywood synthetic take to the since July but training well enough to be ready

8  Mikey T.   just ran best ever in last first time with O'Neill training.......and I believe this gelding is better on the grass.......away since 1 August but like our top pick training well enough to be ready fresh

3  Cervano   exits a very key race with multiple next out winners......little chance to strut her stuff in the stretch in last as this late runner had little pace up front to close into

5  Ella's Kitten

race 2    slightly below average clarity

5  Sandy's Diamond   last 4 races fit........seems like a drop to score as opposed to a drop to entice some sucker to claim

6  Silver Wings   nice win fresh off the bench in latest......good sign that Ellis puts this gelding up a couple of levels......feeling good and likely more horse 2nd out after the layoff

3  Toss The Dice   very dangerous speed in this spot and one tough speed rider aboard in Pedroza

8  Truelee Scrappin

race 3    slightly below average clarity

6  Takem By Surprise   cut back in distance is a plus........back to Maldonado is a plus.....and then there is that always significant drop out of MSW racing

8  Good Samurai   not the best of trips in mc debut at Fairplex......showed good speed after being bumped at the our top pick this colt should be in the hunt from the get go

11  Muck N Grind   nice move forward in 2nd lifetime start which was at little reassuring drill good as anyone here if he manages to move forward once again

4  Run For Pleasure

race 4    slightly above average clarity

3  Candy Boy   decent 2nd lifetime start and it was at a route......and the works since that start at Dmr are terrific and they are on the conventional dirt at SA

7  Tap It Rich   expensive Baffert 1st timer has hit the track every 6 or 7 days for a prolonged period of time.......bred to run all day and sure has plenty of foundation put in to accomplish the task of being ready to handle a route of ground in his MSW debut

9  Gift Exchange   14 to 1 for a Proctor/Stevens 1ster strongly suggests the race was a sprint tune-up (and an impressive one at that and it was somewhat disguised by a bad trip) to be fit enough to get a mile in this youngster's 2nd lifetime start

2  Harbaugh

race 5      average clarity

7  High Test   good history with ample time between starts and gets it.......proven on the SA hill......and drops.....Puype means business

8  Zuboff   claimed by Miller off of a lackluster effort in new conditioner wisely gives his new horse a break and puts some a.m. work into him......rebound seems somewhat likely......owns a good history on the hill

12  AE  Macias   laid up since April and returns as a 1st time gelding......and the works sure suggest the operation has done him some good.....and lookout if it has as he is 2 for 3 on the hill

3  Major Magic

4  Senator Bob

Long-shot consideration:   6  Bergman   strong race 2 back and it is hidden somewhat by a wide trip......poor effort in last but it was on conventional dirt which he has failed on his last 3 times running on it......whereas his turf and AW races have been rebound is possible and possible at a price

race 6    slightly below average clarity

1  Woodman's Luck   whole career with the blinkers off fits extremely well here at this lower since Oct of 2012 but training like he is ready and returns as a 1st time gelding......does like to hang but being gelded might eliminate the bad habit

2  Know More   sharp recent drill suggests O'Neill means business dropping this once promising colt into claiming for the 1st time....plenty of pace in this race can set it up for his late running style as it can for our top pick as well

7  Cast A Doubt   might be able sit in a nice stalk or mid pack position behind 3 or 4 speed types.......43 to 1 (for a Sadler horse) in last and back quick for today's race suggests his last was most likely a public work-out

11  Moonlit Meteor

race 7    slightly above average clarity

1  Bella Viaggia   ultra consistent sort (7 4 3 0) and her best ever was in winning her lone effort down the Santa Anita hillside turf course......that'll do

2  Dancingtothestars   handles the SA turf hill just fine and her best on it was coming off of a route race which is the scenario for today

8  Ismene   speed horse has been scratched multiple times seemingly shopping for a spot......might be wise to sit just of the pace as she did winning her MSW debut as the 6 horse is very fast early.......decent shot at the winners circle if she does

4  Qiaona

race 8    slightly below average clarity

2  Full Instinct   away from racing 14 months but this speed horse is training like he is vastly improved for his new trainer Richard Baltas....and look who accepts the speed jock in Edwin Maldonado (they ran 2nd as a team as our 2nd pick yesterday at 20 to 1 in the 3rd race)

4  Master Chef   very solid on the conventional dirt at SA and especially at today's 6F distance

6  Shining Son   good history when racing in one turn sprints of 6 furlongs or less......and his best was his only race on Santa Anita's conventional dirt surface......and Chantal Sutherland is starting to heat things up and I don't mean that in a sexist way

10  Door's Open

race 9    slightly below average clarity

(Note:  no. 12 or no. 13 have a shot if they draw in from the AE list)

5  Empty Headed   won just 6 days ago as easily our top pick and can win right back if of course he can handle the stress of racing off of micro-rest.......many have in the past for Barry Abrams who has been hot the last 2 months

4  Heat Streaker   hard trying sort has caught some good fields...... 3 slow horses inside of this runner bodes well for his chances of finding the wood on turn 1 and that my friends is 1/2 of the battle

9  Brown Boss   very strong grass race in last in his 1st ever on it and it is disguised by a somewhat bad trip......tough post but he owns some tactical speed and might be able to get on over by turn 1

1  Tribe

race 10    slightly below average clarity

10  Mass Transit   stout work regiment for this Miller Cal-bred baby 1ster and Miller sure has been ready with copious two year old 1st timers the last few years

4  Pray Hard   nice forward move in 2nd lifetime start........1st time Bejarano for 3rd lifetime start........Hollendorfer/Bejarano - one solid combo over the last year or so

9  Eddie's Turn   not much of a record for Truman with 1st time starters but then again I can't remember any training remotely close to as well as this colt is

3  California Jade

13  Frensham  Also Eligible

5  Seeking Asylum

7  Hye I'm Jack
