Santa Anita for Monday 14 October 2013

[private]

Average card at best this afternoon especially with the inconsistency in the SA racing surface. Sure hope the surface settles down. Don't mind a biased surface much at all if it is predictable.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  Titian    solid layoff run at Fpx in last........cut back in distance and 2nd out after the layoff......seems more likely to move forwward than not.....solid here if he does move in the desired direction

3  Royal Import    ample speed in here can set things up for this late running type.......track was kind yesterday to wide runners which usually is quite advantegeous to off the pace runners

8  Only The Gold   sharp recent drill combined with a step up in claiming hint this Belvoir runner might be feeling good and up to his effort 2 back which would fit well in this spot

7  Reach a Decision

race 2    slightly below average clarity

7  Raja's Rose   nice 1st ever route race in last and 1st ever on conventional dirt.........and 2 reassuring works since........seems to be poised for a repeat effort

3  Miss Fast Eddie   O'Neill runner proved he can handle 2 turns adequately in his 6F debut two races back at Fairplex.......back in short rest of 8 days and O'Neill is as good as anyone of the training colony in S CaL in knowing when a given horse can handle the rigors of a short interval between starts

8  Appearance   Baffert runner logically drops into maiden claiming following three dull efforts in MSW affairs......should be competitive versus these

5  Back To Life

race 3    slightly above average clarity

6  Secret Circle   Baffert superstar (7 5 2) is 2 for 2 at 6F and both of those wins were ultra impressive.......colt has a beautiful stalking style and likely will sit behind our speed-ball 3rd pick

5  Let's Get Crackin   very dangerous sort sure has improved by leaps and bounds since Spawr claimed and he is likely feeling better than ever for Spawr to step him up once again

3  Frumious   fresh speed runner sure appears all cranked up and ready to roll.......jock might be wise to keep the seven-year-old well off the rail unless the track changes from yesterday

race 4    average clarity

5  Can The Man   so so route in last in 3rd lifetime start.....did show he can handle the conventional dirt at SA........first two lifetime races were sprints and they are very solid........wisely drops out of Grade 1 racing to win and gain some confidence

3  Jedi Mind Trick   going for his 4th consecutive win and this Sadler two-year-old has never trained better and the works are at SA

1  Hi Fashioned   on the right end of the learning curve and the trend will need to say intact for today for this Mike Harrington baby to be able to handle our top two selections

race 5    slightly below average clarity

2  Sidepocket Run   likes to run wide which is hardly ever a good thing on the sod at a route but she finally draws an inside post after a steady diet of far outside posts.......so maybe Bejarano can save ground on turn one.......and if he does........lookout

11  Kathleen Rose   solid 2nd lifetime start 6 weeks ago on the Dmr synthetic.........good endurance building drills since to be prepared for today's turf route......owns some early speed and she best use it here to get some position.......filly owns a good grass pedigree

1  Crystalline Indy    useful better than it looks layoff sprint in last likely in preparation for today's turf distance affair......only grass race was her MSW debut so I am not that concerned that it was only a so so turf sprint effort......nice series of 5 drills sine her last is reassuring

7  St. Galo's Gate

race 6    slightly above average clarity

4  Final Step   wide with pace in MSW last.......very impressive to only get beat by 1 1/4 for the win.......blinkers on and conventional dirt are two changes from debut and thus are ? marks

9  Maximimus    nice forward move in 2nd lifetime start and working as if the trend has a significant likelihood of continuing in his 3rd lifetime start

5  Bodrum   Hollendorfer 1ster seemingly is training well enough to be competitive in his lifetime debut......and mom has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters

3  Big Medicine Man

race 7    average clarity

2  Scorcher   strong grass race 2 back and it is disguised to some extent.....tried the dirt in last and ran poorly on it as he has in the past....back on the green carpet today

4  Tribal Smoke   won for fun 2 back in his maiden debut in a two turn sprint.....not so hot in one turn AW sprint in 2nd lifetime start.....two turn turf route today for 3rd career start and he sure is bred well to be better runner on the turf

5  Very Elusive   lone grass race at a turf route is his best of his career.....faced tons better in the race and only lost 6L for the win

3  Magnum Force

Long-shot consideration:   1  Sharp Richard   Mullins takes over a Cby invader from a very low % trainer who pulled off a turf mc win with this horse........and Mullins sure is good with turf runners these days......big move up potential

race 8    average clarity

4  Cunning Ride   1 for 1 at SA......0 for 5 elsewhere......sharp SA work tab and drops

7  The Gatekeeper   acted up some and still managed to break his maiden at Bsr..........two reassuring works since......big shot if he behaves better today

6  Fighting On   good history on conventional dirt......trainer is firing on all cylinders.......and he drops off of the layoff.....danger city

8  Hodge

Long-shot consideration:   10  Master Rudy   last was the gimme off of the long layoff to drop and go go go today......very dangerous price shot especially if the track is kind to outside runners as it was yesterday

race 9  average clarity

2  Mr T Bird  very stout with ample time between starts.....7+ weeks since last qualifies

3  Te Rapa   gelding used to be tough to handle but he has settled down since Stra took over the riding duties......way to go Kayla.....hard not to root for a mother/jockey

1  The Big Theory   colt has done little wrong in his 7 lifetime starts all on the grass.....sharp work tab says he will preform at a high level of competency once again

8  Huntsville

race 10    average clarity

3  Roust em' Bertie   prolonged tightly spaced work tab and the drop out of MSW racing has this Mike Puype filly all set for her 1st visit to the circle of joy

12  Glad's Girls   all four lifetime starts fit at today's level.......1st ever on conventional dirt but owns a good pedigree for it

9  Frannie'sspirittoo   last 2 two turn sprints are OK but what we want is her one turn sprint 3 races back which would greatly enhance her chances

7  Meet Me For A Kiss

6  Winninginfashion

11  Gin Jan Lizzie
