Santa Anita for Friday 18 October 2013

Average card at best today. Be back with you tomorrow for Saturday's nine race card.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly below average clarity

7  Educated Guess    just an educated guess but I believe the works say this Hoffman 1ster is ready to roll in his maiden debut and he has some early speed which this race lacks

5  Dragon Dance   35 to 1 for a Sadler MSW 1st timer suggests the race was nothing but a public workout to tighten up and be at full throttle for today's drop into maiden claiming

1  Green Beret   broke more than 1/2 dozen lengths slow in his last in a fast heat of maiden claimers......did well to only get beat by 10.......trainer wisely seems to be putting some quickness into him in the a.m......shot here even if he breaks a length or 2 slow as opposed to 7 slow

6  Joe Hardoon

Long-shot consideration:   4  Italian Mirage   horrid starts in both lifetime starts and then showed life following the bad beginnings......had the difficult breaking 1 hole in both races........4 post today might help him break decently

race 2    average clarity

2  Tosheen   improving with every start for Pete Miller and seemingly faces much softer than he did in his latest......should be stout here if he manages another move in the right direction

1  Heyyoucan   this Miller runner beat our top pick (and his barn mate) in last but seems to have found his level of ability whereas our top pick has been on the aforementioned improve

7  Snowmass Village    not much in 2nd lifetime start but his debut seemingly fits here.......1st on conventional dirt is a ? mark

6  Battle Jet

race 3    average clarity

4  Buckingham Bull   seems best at today's 1 mile distance......but what most intrigues me about the Cerin turf runner is her recent work regiment that says she is feeling awfully good.......and........Bejarano and his agent must think so as they stay with the three-year-old-filly

1  Rolanda   bad trip in last hides a much improved effort.......very strong work tab for Sherlock who hardly ever pushes his stock in the a.m. too hard.....seems ready for best

3  Cavalletta   toss out last as it was a too wide a trip-a-rooo.......had hit the board in all her races in 2012 and 2013 until her latest.....back to Espinoza who seems to get the most out of this filly.......does tend to hang in the stretch

5  Marina Del Heat

race 4    slightly above average clarity

5  I Don't Care   markedly better on the conventional dirt at Santa Anita (4 2 0 2)........and Ron Ellis just claimed the gelding and he is off to a very hot start at the SA meeting

2  Money Cannon   last (at 1/2 the claiming price here) was solid and fits well here.......needs to repeat the effort........which seems like a 50/50 proposition that he will

4  One Firm Cat   going for 3 in a row which are all at the 25K claiming rise in claiming price is only a small concern as there aren't many spots for this 3 year old to choose from in the condition book

3  Tahoe Flash

race 5    average clarity

1  Shrilanka    blocked in last way back in Sept of 2012  or would have won 100K turf Stakes race.......back versus MSW's today off of the extended hiatus from the track but draws a good post and is working as if her connections will be well dressed and ready for their appearance in the circle of joy

5  Passionate Diva   big move forward turf to AW in last.......major player if this O'Neill filly can run as well on the sod today.......tough call

8  Nicegirlsfinshlast    most likely needed her last and yet it was quite good........good forward move last winter in 2nd lifetime out after the layoff logically seems to be a very good thing

7  Switched Up

Long-shot consideration:   6  Sealington   trainer has been sending most of his stock ready at the SA meeting.......he has put two AW races into this filly to muscle her up and most likely he has pointed her for today's 1st on the sod as mom has tossed 2 grass winners from 5 starters

race 6    average clarity

2  Miss Judged   just won a two turn 7F affair at Fairplex......very impressive work tab at SA since.......trainer is starting to heat things up.....two turns once again today and only 1 furlong more to handle

1  Dolphin Shorts    last 3 races sure fit here at today's lower level.......seems like a logical drop in claiming price for a trainer who has made a living off of dropping horse's multiple claiming levels

4  Amulay   filly has finally settled down after being quite goofy (erratic) in a good portion of her career.....likes the SA surface and gets back on it today

7  Tiz Anna

race 7    average clarity

1  Pebble Beach Baby   back in one week off of a soft looking (non-claiming) alw race hints the race might have been a gimme/tune-up of sorts.......only lifetime turf race was at today's 1 mile distance and the effort was a par like turf run when considering today's lower level/par......good post and rider too

5  Tebowing   seems to have the best grass credentials in the field......wisely scratched out of a three and older 40K claimer the other day to go here in a 3 year-old claimer

2  Bares Tripper   only proven turf speed in the field and Bejarano aboard.....blinkers off to help the filly slow down early......lookout if the equipment change works

3  Hard Buns

race 8    slightly below average clarity

2  Joh's War   bad trip in last and it was in a fast heat....effort fits fine here and she is training as though the 2 month layoff might be a plus

3  Rsweet Serendipity   major awakening in last over at Fairplex in her 1st ever on conventional dirt.......dangerous price shot today if she manages to build on the effort

9  Renegade Ride   takes that ever dangerous drop out of MSW racing to the bottom maiden claiming level

7  Magic Number

5  Chumash

8  Paralyzing Eyes
