Santa Anita for Sunday 20 October 2013

After two fairly wide open and difficult to decipher first two races the races sure made a lot of sense right or wrong. I'll put my money on "right".

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly below average clarity

6  Mikey T   last two efforts which were both at today's one mile distance (AW and turf) are strong for this spot.......jury is still out on this runner's ability on conventional dirt but his pedigree suggests he should handle it

2  Proud Boss   has always trained well on the SA since 4 August and returns as a 1st time gelding and takes the blinkers off.....impressive bullet work on 3 Oct hints the changes have improved this Armstrong runner

7  Tenkiller Kid   last was an obvious turf tightener to drop and go in a maiden claimer today.......1st two career races were on the SA dirt and both are so much better than appear in print and are his best getting back to it likely is a major plus for this O'Neill runner

3  Carlsbad Mountain

race 2    slightly below average clarity

3  I See Back   38 to 1 for a Jeff Bonde 1st timer says his MSW debut was nothing more than a public work-out.......ultra quick and impressive 46 Flat bullet drill since.....full throttle today dropping into this high priced maiden claimer

2  Public Policy   nice work regiment for this Sadler 1ster and John is 15 of his last 42 with maiden claiming first starters......yikes

5  I'll Wrap It Up   nice move forward in 2nd lifetime race and 1st on the SA dirt and the effort is somewhat disguised by a wide trip-a-roooo

race 3    slightly above average clarity

6  Java Man   that ever difficult piece of handicapping with significant drop downs.....healthy or claim me please.........easy here as this Sadler charge continues to work as if he is still in one piece and more importantly he is 7 and has only raced 10 times....he's 8 soon....time to drop-a-rooo and cut the red ink

4  Truelee Scrappin   solid efforts/figs in last two......back in at the same price as his last off of the claim by rider and trainer team.....blinkers on says they want the front end in today's route endeavor.......good speed trainer......good speed rider

1  Joe Carl   auto-pilot late runner especially with small sized fields which of course usually keeps traffic troubles down to a minimum

5  Tuckers Point

race 4    average clarity

7  Nancy Wake   last 3 race endeavors fit well......owns good early speed which is a nice commodity to own for a 5 1/2F sprint.....rider/trainer have hooked up for some solid returns of late

1  Diamonddusted   Peter Miller 1st timer is working up to snuff and likely ready to compete at a high level in his maiden debut.....little used but capable jock Fernando Perez is in the irons and he is 1 for 1 for Miller

8  Capers N Wine   weak trainer with 1st time starters but this A. C. Avilia is training too well to be ignored and might break the mold this afternoon

2  U R Lucky

race 5    slightly above average clarity

4  Taste Like Candy    Hollendorfer is very prolific with getting 2 year old filly 1st timers ready to roll in their MSW debut and the work series for this young filly strongly suggest she is ready ready ready

5  Midnight Dream   might be a bit too much esoteric thinking here but........this Baffert 1ster was likely headed to a maiden claimer for her debut but once she stepped on the SA dirt and markedly worked better he put this $38K at sale filly in a MSW race......very impressive 5F gate work on 7 October

3  Abide In Me   solid efforts in both lifetime races on the AW last summer......fits as well as anyone in here if she can duplicate those better than par efforts off of the layoff and on the dirt at SA.....trainer has been a little cold or she would have been rated higher

6  Pretty Storm

race 6    average clarity

1  Flashy Dame   works big in the a.m. but not much in the p.m......bit of a morning glory and many a "morning glory" will only run like they work on the lead......and.....lone win for this gal came loose on the lead.......shot to be loose here

7  Akiss Forarose   best turf credentials in this soft bunch........seems best on the SA grass course........solid grass races in last 2 efforts and her last was disguised by a wide trip and she sat too far back as Gomez had to take back from the 12 post to get on over some by turn 1

4  Smart N Dreamy   useful 1st ever on the sod in last.....owns enough tactical early speed to sit close and save some ground and that is 1/2 the battle in these cheap conditioned claiming grass races

8  Twitch

race 7    average clarity

1  Tribal Peace   well placed to win for her 1st ever on conventional dirt and her works on the SA dirt sure suggest the transition won't be a problem......likes the abbreviated sprint distance.......gets plenty of heat up front to aid her late running style

4  Firendesire   seems best at Santa Anita.......par like effort in last for today's higher the step up in claiming........Steve Knapp is good trying to pull off back to back wins which is the case here

10  Coco de Carchy   big wake up in last in her 1st ever on "real" dirt and it is hidden by a bad trip.....checked early and ran way too wide.......Hess wisely steps her up.......late runner seemingly gets ample pace to flatter her running style

3  Sallyanna

race 8    slightly average clarity

6  Tom's Tribute   powerful grass 1 mile alw win in latest.......1st two lifetime races were AW sprints and they both were eye popping good.....seems highly likely to appreciate the SA hillside turf course

4  Appealing Tale   seems to handle any surface including the turf in his latest.....colt sure is on the right end of the learning curve and as hot as Miller has been he seems likely to keep the learning process intact with his three-year-old

1  Salutos Amigos   only lifetime grass race was decent and it was his MSW debut.......very solid dirt Grade 2 3rd at Saratoga 3 races back and it was his only time he ever ran at 6 1/2 furlongs.......about 6 1/2F today

race 9    slightly above average clarity

12  Angel's Moon   layoff drop down owns the best early speed in the race and sure is training as if Headley is all bizz here.....likely loose and if she is...........she...........might.............go................all..............the...............way  (1 1/2 hours to the the Bears/Redskins kickoff)......then a good card......I'll take that any Sunday

4  Sophie's Secret   last sure fits well and this filly seems likely to produce another better than par effort off of a decent set of drills since her last........and we get a significant jockey upgrade

11  Amanda   on the improve with every start and the recent works strongly suggest the trend will continue in this week's wrap-up race

7  Katey Pie

8  That's A Bingo

6  I'm No Patsy
