Santa Anita for Thursday 24 October 2013

Decent enough card today but a word of warning about race 4 as I found it impossible and wouldn't be surprised if anyone was victorious in the race......thus the "below average clarity rating".

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Eltoninadress   exits a fairly fast heat at one claiming notch higher and despite not winning the race Troy Taylor raises his filly up a notch which hints she is doing well......and she catches a weak looking 10K........nice record on "fast" conventional dirt (7 1 3 3)

4  Long Legged Lovely   only true drop down in the race and the drop seems logical....should be motoring late which is often a plus at 7F

3  Psalm Sixteen   cut back in distance should help this four-year-old filly last the seven panels......lone lifetime win in 9 starts was in another extended one turn affair........7 1/2F at Hollywood

race 2    slightly below average clarity

3  Would You   just keeps getting better.......and better........and better........and he just flashed improved a.m. work so the trend seems likely to stay intact

4  Liberty Cap   good history on conventional dirt and seems well placed to win at the 32K level.......Aaron Gryder is up and he is 2 for 2 on the Troy Taylor five-year-old

2  Half Strike   best at Santa Anita and most likely won't have the opportunity to run on it's dirt surface till late in December following the final meeting at drop into claiming makes sense (whereas the morning line favorite Golden Itiz claimed for 62.5K and then ran big in Grade 3 at Emd is now in for 32K and likes Hollywood - too suspect for my taste)  ......and......his lone lifetime score was the only time he ran for a tag

race 3    average clarity

6  Bijoux   Sadler 1ster owns a decent pedigree for a sprint turf race and finished up her work regiment with 3 consecutive gate drills the last of which was 6F and a near bullet.....not too shabby for 2 year-old-filly

3  Bosserrette   par like effort down the SA hillside grass course in 2nd lifetime start and the effort is somewhat disguised by having to check a couple of times in the race.......same effort with a cleaner trip and it might end in a visit to the circle of joy

7  Galehorn   decent 2nd in a turf mile at Del when last seen in late August.......shows up here at SA with Sadler and works as though she is meant and ready for her first run under his guidance.......cut back from a route turf race to a run down the hill is often a solid training maneuver

1  Amy Jane

race 4    below average clarity

2  Code Of Pleasure   poor trip in maiden debut.......broke slowly and ran wide on an inside condition.......race is a better sprint prep than appears on paper.......trainer is decent1st time at a route

4  Black Tie   improved in latest in a sprint......decent route pedigree and many in here sure are bred poorly to get a route of ground.......especially in October as a two-year-old

7  Pantera Rojo   58 to 1 in MSW debut suggests the effort was nothing more than a tune-up to tighten up and be sufficiently legged up to get a route on the drop down into maiden claiming......nice work series of 5F and 6F drills since this colt's debut

5  Ghost Of Harrenhal

race 5    average clarity

(if no. 1 & AE no. 9 both race the tie breaker is whoever Bejarano elects to ride)

1  Highly Rated  (tie for top pick)  very good shot to be loose on the lead here and this Carla Gaines runner owns two wins, one 2nd, and two 4ths in 5 starts when she does find herself alone on the front since 9 Dec. 12 but works suggest shes ready fresh off of the bench

9 AE  Lilly's Perfect   (tie for top pick)   very solid efforts/figs in last 3 and in general is extremely consistent........she was boxed on the back stretch in latest or might have made in 3 wins in a row

7  Tanquerray   there is a significant likelihood this filly needed her last start as Hebert Bacon is quite dangerous 2nd out after layoffs and that is the case here

4  Smart Striking   better horse when racing 2nd out after layoffs and/or short rest and that is the case today.......overall record at 1 mile on the grass isn't so hot but lately it is as her two best efforts in 2013 (a 1st and a 2nd) have occurred the last two times she ran in a mile turf affair

6  No Tricks For Jack

race 6    average clarity

3  Hurry Home Clover   nicely improved runner since Bill Spawr claimed 4 races back........four-year-old gelding has learned to take back a little under Spawr's and Degadillo's guidance........1 for 1 at SA and his recent work is ultra impressive.......seems set for a 2013 best

6  Bob Consultation   2 for 5 at SA.....0 for 5 on other surfaces......solid win/improvement in latest......historically speaking Mr. Carava is stout with claiming runners repeating win efforts

4  Russel's Run   Oscar Garcia runner has tossed very strong efforts racing turf to main track surfaces......and that my friends is the case here

2  Anabaa Premium

race 7    average clarity

7  Tribal Spy   vastly improved sort since Kitchingman took over the training duties..........impressive at 51 to 1 in last which was this fillies 1st ever down the Santa Anita hillside turf course........blocked about 3 lengths in the stretch or might have won the small Stakes race

4  Moulin De Mougin   3 of 4 lifetime SA hillside turf races are better than par when adjusted for trip and that includes her latest.......switch in jocks to the red hot 10 for 38 Mike Smith.......that'll do

1  Macaabra   race 2 back his U S of A debut following 7 races in the UK fits.........and his last does not.........needs a rebound and considering that one of little Mandella's best stats is 3rd out after layoffs his chances seem very good that he will rebound to some extent

2  Boller Bomb

race 8    slightly above average clarity

3  Visions of Candy   fillies 4 lifetime starts are way better than appear in print and especially her last which was her 1st ever endeavor running in a route the race she broke very poorly and ran wide on a slightly biased rail.......come on slumping Brice Blanc........we are rooting for you

2  Patriot C H   believe this Gaines runner to be on the decline somewhat........but..........she appears to need a loose lead to run and she sure seems like she gets the lead here and possibly cutting some slow fractions

5  Perfect Tango   last wasn't bad but what we want to see out of the Chew 3rd time stater is a rebound to his maiden debut.......rate it about a 50/50 proposition that a rebound will occur.......1st long but owns a good pedigree to handle running route of ground

7  Lethal Heat

1  Kevin's Kool Kati

8  Nezi O's Gold
