Santa Anita for Saturday 26 October 2013

Decent card for today and Sunday's card also looks quite good for at least the first five of nine races that I have handicapped so far.

Best of luck as always!

 race 1    average clarity

4  Decoy   bombed out with 1st time blinkers in last.......wisely off today......only missed the board twice out of eight races on the main track without the blinkers and both were lousy trips

8  Julio's Gold   just claimed by Carava who has done well of late when riding Pedroza.........filly owns good early speed and likely can clear all by the turn if she is the same horse as the day she was claimed......I am a touch concerned that there isn't a work listed since her last on Oct 6th or she would have been top choice

5  Miracle Merger   runs best at today's distance.....runs best with the blinkers on..........runs best on conventional dirt.....gets all three today

1  Clearly Confused

race 2    average clarity

6  Rushomatic   clunker in last.....but claimed by O'Neill and training (blinkers off) as if a rebound to her debut 2 back can occur........major rider upgrade

1  Moving Sea   good work tab and drops out of MSW support at the windows in both lifetime races suggests a gimme / gimme / drop and go scenario

9  Spirit of Ten   good work regiment for this Canani 1st timer starter.......Canani is not much with MSW 1st timers but he is quite dangerous with mc 1sters having won 3 of the last 8 that he has started

4  Spring Dream

race 3    slightly above average clarity

6  El Mirage King  very solid efforts/figs down the SA hill when not wearing blinkers.......way wide in last (from a miserable 12 post draw) and still was only beaten by less than two in a Grade 3......will be ultra tough if he shows the same effort and gets a predictably better trip in only a 6 horse field

4  Endorsement   set a nasty pace in a turf mile and rightfully tired......may have really legged up nicely from the effort making the cut back to a turf sprint quite only other lifetime grass race he ran 2nd to Indy Point

3  Starspangled Heat   very strong late runner in these hillside grass races will be hoping the 3 outside horses press the issue early......she sure is the best of the 3 closers in the race by my book......small field should keep traffic jams to a minimum

race 4    slightly above average clarity

8  Global Hottie   very expensive purchase for a 2 year Calbred and she is working as if she might be worth the money........111:1 Hg for a 2 year old filly Calbred......yikes......eye popping even by Bob Baffert standards

6  Moseato Girl   very aggressive tightly spaced prolonged work series has ready written all over it..........and Gaines doesn't mess around with a good youngster as she almost always uses a top echelon jock on her stout babies......hello Mr Bejarano

2  Demonica   very bad trip hides a solid forward move for this two-year-old filly of Sadler's.......two nice drills since.........believe she moves forward again......dangerous if she does and gets a cleaner trip

7  Jogget

race 5    average clarity

4  Lucky Student   most likely to grab the early lead here especially with Maldonado wiring with her in her last..........will be a ton if she moves forward 2nd out after the layoff.......and she is not impossible even if she just gives the same effort/energy as her last .

2  Good Party   laid up Palma runner is working as if she is 100% ready to roll in her return to the race wars........she proved she can run fresh winning her MSW debut on New Years Day despite having about 7 lengths of trip trouble.......and she gets a major rider upgrade for today

1  Hidethegoodstuff   very good history on the Santa Anita main track (4 1 3 0) and won't get an opportunity to run on it's conventional dirt surface until the last week in December at the that tells me Hollendorfer likely will be all out to get the most out of his filly this afternoon

6  Madoffwiththemoney

race 6    average clarity

4  Yes Yes Yes   filly seems to have run herself into shape for Peter Eurton.........blinkers on and a nice drill.....seems poised for her best ever and gets the red hot and very selective in who he rides - Mike Smith

6  Oso Smart   trainer and rider upgrade for today........blinkers off and a decent looking work tab hints the equipment change is a good of two lifetime grass races fit here and I think we will see the good one and maybe better today

8  Storm The Channel   useful MSW debut where she showed she can handle the turf and the distance running well following a sluggish beginning........nice 5F gate work since her debut.......more seems highly likely this afternoon

3  Maxx The Kid

Long-shot consideration:   7  Neverwherecauseway   extremely wide and close to a decent pace.......rather amazing she only was beaten by 8 1/2L......never really stopped drill since......would like as well as anyone in the field if it wasn't for a low % turf rider aboard........come on Bisono

race 7    average clarity

6  Prayer Be Mine   prolonged impressive tightly spaced work regiment finishing with 4 six furlong drills has this Hollendorfer filly all wound up and ready to roll with plenty of foundation under her

7  Chilada   good work tab for this O'Neill 1st timer and he appears to be all business for her 1st out as he worked her solidly out of the gate 3 straight times to compete her a.m. preparation

8  Miss Loujean   owns dangerous early speed.........1st ever racing on "real" dirt but sure owns some impressively fast drills on the LA conventional dirt.......might upset here if the AW to conventional dirt surface change improves her this afternoon

10  Euroclydon

race 8    slightly below average clarity

7  Flashy Ways   excellent history fresh.........excellent history with the blinkers on........filly gets both today...........owns enough tactical speed to get on over and sit close to the pace in a race lacking speed.....beat the ML fave (our 3rd choice) in Oct of 2012 with a 2 lbs advantage.......gets a 5 lbs advantage today

1  Heir Kitty   seems to run on all surfaces including the turf........has run in two turn affairs 3 times and all three are hidden by trip trouble........3rd after the layoff.....sprint / sprint / route scenario is often a good thing for Miller

10  Wishing Gate   seemingly best grass credentials in the race and she loves the one mile grass distance (5 starts with 3 in the win column).........but nasty post.........or........would have been top selections

5  Oscar Party

Long-shot consideration:    8  Charlie Em   toss out last two races fig. wise as both were pace-less affairs incapable of producing a valid final fig.......her "legitimate" race 3 back is strong enough that if this filly gets a good trip and shows the same effort she might upset the apple cart

race 9    average clarity

4  Raisin' Cain   vastly improved following the claim by Felix Gonzalez in last in a race at Fno........only has to go 1/2 furlong further today........has won at SA........can be in it from the get go

3  Unkept Rendez Vous  last fits with few reasons not to believe she won't repeat the effort......but she might be at the mercy of the pace being set especially considering this is an abbreviated sprint of 5 1/2F

2  Economy of Motion   hung on to win her last at 6 furlongs in a race at Fairplex.........she really doesn't want to run that far especially in a two turn sprint so the cut back of 1/2 furlong sure seems like a plus for today's race

8  Heartless Honey

7  Acute

6  Metaxa
