Santa Anita for Sunday 3 November 2013

Early first post today at Santa Anita because of the clock change to 2 p.m. Pacific time.

Hollywood opens Thursday for their final meeting which is quite sad. We have done some great handicapping at Hollywood and  statistically it has been or best meeting. I don't plan to ignore that fact and will give the meeting everything I've got.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly below average clarity

4  Whipstock   six-year-old makes the most of his limited starts (ten to be exact) with 2 wins - 2 2nd's - and 2 3rd's in 9 races on main track surfaces......1 for 1 at the somewhat specialty distance of 7F......and training as if his new conditioner has improved him

10  Big Wags   believe this fellow is best around two turns but he has won at 7F and sure seems in peak form.....Spwar has had a good meeting with limited starters

1  Muchos Besos   not sure if this Puype runner is ready to roll fresh off of the bench but he has as good a shot as anyone in this affair if he is

7  Half Dome

Long-shot consideration:   8  Warren's Rail Bird   strong late runner consistently puts in a late run........and there is some potential for a decent pace up front........1 for 1 with today's jock up......good history at 7F

race 2    slightly below average clarity

3  Insideondoutside   solid turf sprint fig in last for the 32K level.........2 of his 4 mile grass races are just as good.....logical drop for the barn as they have yet to win with this gelding since claiming 5 races back

2  Danderek   seems highly likely to get the same stalk the leader trip as his last which was a win.....step up a notch in claiming hints this Hollendofer runner is feeling good

10  Depreciable   2nd out after the layoff and drops a notch.....seems like enough to make him contentious here even with a tough post

8  Mr. Candy Bar

race 3    below average clarity

2  Anzeau   talk about running over your head.......connections have been a bit too ambitious for this Cal-bred.....hello bottom level maiden claimers.....not exactly good breeding for conventional dirt but the recent bullet 3F drill is is first time Bejarano

6  Crusher   so so debut way back in June at 3x the maiden claiming level......good preparatory works......might be on or near the lead and versus a soft looking group

9  Will He Amaze   will he amaze as a first time gelding.....somebody's got to win this race

1  Gold Tie Please

race 4    average clarity

9  Change Of Plan   Miller runner appears to be in versus a soft group.....drop helps......cut back of one furlong helps......good on or near the front helps.....very tough here if he has remains in good form

11  Turn On The Brites   consistent sort takes a very logical drop......Matthew Chew has had a good SA meeting with limited starters

2  Tale Be Told   improving sort might feel real good coming off of a turf sprint.......should get involved in the late stages

10  Backstreet Boss

race 5    average clarity

8  Cravin' the Heat   bet hard in her last and would have not disappointed her backers if she hadn't been blocked a half dozen lengths or more on turn 2 and the stretch.......rider upgrade to Rosario.......Abrams has had his best meeting in many a moon

2  Kathleen Rose   have to like when you get a cut back in distance (turf mile to turf sprint) and you still have enough early speed to be on or close to the lead down the hill.....and you have a good speed jock

4  Lil Swiss Echo   sure has ability on the sod......but......has gotten off to poor starts one way or another in all 3 lifetime starts.......a ton if gets it right today but she will have to do it with a jock that owns a dismal record on the grass in S Cal

5  Peggy Sue's Loose

race 6    average clarity

10  Beach Hut   Baffert 1st timer sure seems to own early speed if his work tab is worth a hoot........and outside speed sure has been doing well this weekend

7  Rough Passage   very impressive work regiment for this Mulhall 1st timer.....rather sure this is a good one......if not today then down the road

6  Bullwhip   seems to be training well enough to possibly be dangerous in his MSW debut......recent 3 furlong (near bullet) gate work and a speed jock up hint that this Mike Puype baby might have early speed

8  Rock Hard City

race 7    average clarity

2  Ambitious Brew   trainer has been in a slump but might get a jump start here with this quality three-year-old who likes ample time between starts and gets it......good sign he retains Mike Smith for a 4th straight time

1  Johnny's Choice   consistent sort has been off since July of 2012 but returns as a 1st time gelding (and with a new trainer) and is working as though the ultimate equipment change has improved him......very dangerous and at a price

4  Life A Riley    races on the main track fit.....1st on the sod but owns a pedigree that is fairly decent for it

8  Candy's Sunrise

race 8    slightly below average clarity

9  Melanistic   outside speed here and that sure has been a good thing the last couple of days........cut back route to 7F is usually a positive and that is the case here

5  Mum's Truckee   horse has a good history turf to dirt and that is the case here.....only lifetime effort on the Santa Anita main track is his lifetime best and is somewhat hidden by a wide caveat though as he ran it on a raining wet track that was groomed which is not we he gets today

1  Corlett Drive   seemingly appreciates the conventional dirt track at SA the most and this is her last chance to run on it's dirt surface till the last week in December.........retains Joe Talamo who owns a win and second in two mounts on this Sadler filly

3  Gifting

race 9    average clarity

5  Egg Drop   I love a horse who digs in when challenged and that is the case for this Mitchell three-year-old.........exceptional work tab for a young filly.....all systems go

1  More Chocolate   only got beat 7L by the best filly in the U S of A and she had a very wide trip.....she might be better on the main track but I am not sure of that.....upset city if she is as good on the grass and her new jock gives her a better ride

2  Customer Base   race 2 back fits if she gets a smooth journey......and that seems likely with the awe inspiring 50 year old jockey on her back in the name of Gary Stevens

9  Appealing

race 10    average clarity

10  Sheriff Hutton   nice hidden top pick to finish of the Meeting......gelding dueled in very fast pace for the given level and he dueled on a dull inside.....did extremely well to only get beat by 9L......can be loose as a goose here

9  Educated Guess   first timer is working as if he is ready to has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters

2  Western Seeker  ran decently after breaking slowly in his mdn20K debut which was on the turf since hint the effort muscled him up trainer and a new surface.....seems very dangerous

3  Awesome Okee

1  Soul Saver

7  Salt Of The Earth
