Hollywood for Saturday 9 November 2013

Fairly decent card today with our top couple of choices resting on the merits of Talamo - Bejarano - Smith - Maldonado. I'll take that any day.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

7  Great Friends Rule   last two times this gelding was loose on the lead he went gate to wire.........seems like a better than 50% chance that can occur here......owns a good history breaking from the outer-most post in sprints

3  Malibu Knight   this only race number eight for this six-year-old....... but........ reunites with Bejarano and is training as if healthy enough.......big effort/fig in lone race at Bhp at 6F on the sod.......would have been top selection if this Marty Jones runner had a better history breaking from the gate

5  Dress Code   late runner seems best sprinting.......seems best on the grass.......gets both today........just needs more pace than anticipated here

1  Senor Rain

race 2    average clarity

5  Bajan   continues to train as if this quality filly has held her form.......and her best ever might be her MSW debut which was the only time she ever ran on the Bhp AW

1  Lemon Drop Oro   after two career lackluster turf races...........1st time on the AW in her 3rd lifetime start sure produced a major wake-up for this Motion filly both in pace and final time......and she has always worked exceptionally well on in the a.m.

6  For Emma   connections had to be excited when they claimed this filly for 50K and she won her maiden debut by 10 lengths........sure beats watching a claim flounder in the rear at the finish

race 3    slightly above average clarity

6  One Time Only   both lifetime races fit well here.....and she showed improved speed in her 1st on the grass in her latest.......1st time Smith (for Proctor) is quite often a telltale sign a given horse is as sharp as ever

1  The Magic Stone   speed of the speed here if this Bonde filly is as quick on the grass as she is on the turf........owns a decent turf pedigree..........and we get a rider upgrade to a stellar speed rider

7  Provenance  away since her so so AW MSW debut back in early May.........she sure is training well especially for the likes of Marty Jones who seldom asks too much out of his horses in the a.m......decent grass breeding

3  Miss Charming

race 4    average clarity

4  King Maya   crushed to break maiden in last.....placed where he can dominate if he has another race in him as his history says he only has one or two races in him before having to be laid up on the's low level makes sense as this is likely his last race for awhile and you best win

1  Orangeyouacutie   hidden last in that it was an extremely fast heat and he had a wide trip.....did fairly well to only get beat by 13L.......1 for 1 at Bhp.......cut back in distance seems like a plus

8  Judge Carr   tough one for me to get a handle on but surely has a shot 1st out after the claim by Hess if he brings his "A game"

6  Chico Suerte

5  Long-shot consideration:   5  Crestatorre    trainer has been firing on all cylinders of late and this six-year-old-gelding's best ever is on the Bhp synthetic.....and he is training quite well for a cheap claimer

race 5    slightly above average clarity

7  Kill Shot   improving with every start........repeat of last ought to make him very difficult to overcome.....more and he likely will win by plenty of daylight

3  Topper's Ghost    major wake-up (on the SA conventional dirt) in last in 3rd lifetime start........broke poorly and ran wide and still won going away was it the "dirt" or in general just got better?.......should find out today back on an AW surface

4  Big Macher   we loved this Baltas runner in his latest coming off of a brutal trip in his previous start......big step up here but not impossible if our top pick doesn't fire like I think he will or gets a bad trip

5  Surf N Ski

race 6    average clarity

6  Pray Hard   retains Bejarano who looks as if he got off of a couple of other decent runners to ride this 2 year old who owns stout early speed.....sure looks as if he can control the front end unless one of the 1sters have some solid early speed

5  Public Policy   good Mdn75K debut last........needs a repeat of the effort and possibly a little more to get to the circle of joy this afternoon

7  Hye I'm Jack   new sire is off to a slow start but this son of his might help the "stats" as he sure is training as if he has some talent and is meant and ready to show it in his MSW debut

1  Seeking Asylum

Long-shot consideration:   8  Bodrum    33 to 1 for Jerry Hollendorfer 1st timer says he needed the race.......highly likely to show much more the 2nd time around.....very sharp 5F gate work just 6 days ago.......seems sharp now

race 7    average clarity

4  Runaway Wildcat   exits two straight out of town fast heats........drops back to 16K where he crushed his competition and where Peterson claimed this five-year-old......3 recent reassuring works since......very consistent sort on any main track surface

1  Sammy's A Runnin"   earned a very strong adjusted for trouble "Santucci" fig in last for today's 16K why not top pick......I am bit leery he drops off of the strong effort......but he is definitely is the one to overcome if he repeats his last and gets an OK trip

5  Cast A Doubt   well placed to win.....impressive 2nd quarter move in last.....proven on the Hollywood AW......should get good position on or near the front in a race without that much speed

2  McKenzies Way

race 8    average clarity

2  Power Foot   so so effort in latest (on April 28th) but might have gotten hurt in the race as this Mandella runner has been away since.......significant effort/fig two races work series hints he ready to produce similar today.....a ton if he is

3  Te Rapa   used to be hard to handle but not anymore.......have to give Stra/Zucker credit for getting this talented runner to smooth out the kinks.......gelding is 3 for 6 on the turf at today's distance.......1 for 12 at other turf distances

5  American Act   first time Mike Smith with a horse that looks loose is a dangerous thing especially in a grass race.....last on the SA dirt isn't as bad as appears in print as this Carava runner was caught wide close to a decent pace giving him an excuse for tiring late

7  Mr T Bird

race 9    slightly below average clarity

11  Ice Cream Truck    best on AW surfaces so this 3 year old ought to rebound today following a so so effort on the conventional dirt at SA........race 2 back on Dmr's AW was a fast heat where running 2nd by 6 3/4L was still better than par for the level......cut back in distance for today sure appears to be plus

13  Warren's T. Baze   off since June following two so so MSW turf efforts........returns in a bottom level maiden claimer and sure is training as if meant and ready to roll fresh off of the bench........and Bejarano and his agent want the mount.....that'll do

7  Karaiskakis   nice wake up in last and the effort is disguised by a bad trip and in a fast heat......1st ever on an AW surface but owns a pedigree that ought to handle it

6  Grand Gambler

10  Mary Helen's Storm

2  Fly High
