Hollywood for Friday 22 November 2013

Not an easy card to decipher yet it was quite intriguing.

Top gun Bejarano is in our top 3 picks in every race. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing considering the way he gets pounded at the windows on just about anything he rides right now.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Candy Boy   on the improve with every start and lifetime start number 4 might be best of all considering the stout a.m. work this Sadler runner has been showing on the Bhp synthetic

6  Hold Everything   last was par like for what it takes on average to win at the MSW level but the blinkers are back on for today......and in debut 2 back this Baffert colt showed stellar pace with the blinkers......sure seems loose and very dangerous in this spot........and with the red hot Bejarano back aboard

2  Hoppertunity   I see some hints that this nicely bred Baffert 1ster might be pointed for his 2nd lifetime start on the conventional dirt at Santa Anita but if he is "meant and ready" in his 1st start......then lookout

race 2    average clarity   (this race is off the turf)

5  Poshsky   ran fairly well versus tougher in last........decent reassuring 5F drill since.......major league rider upgrade for this afternoon

4  Tommy O    1st on the AW but most that handle the sod handle the Hollywood AW.......1st time Bejarano.....that combined with improved a.m. work ought to make for a dangerous contender here

1  Quick Cielo   1st at a route today with a pedigree that isn't so hot for one but this Pender sprinter sure looks loose here......and with a strong front end rider aboard in Pedroza

race 3    below average clarity

5  Bench Press   seems very well prepared for his layoff run this afternoon with some awfully strong drills put into him by Sadler.....and of course he takes that ever dangerous drop out of MSW racing

8  Second Proposal    Eric Kruljac three-year-old has done little wrong since going on Lasix........and now he gets a significant rider upgrade to Mike Smith

4  Street Choir   tossed a clunker in last for Sadler but stout trainer has had enough time to get more out of this colt......debut 3 back is very strong and hidden by a brutal trip (broke 3 slow and ran wide on an inside day).......and it sure seems like a good sign that Bejarano stays aboard

9  Exclude

Long-shot consideration:   7  Radar The Rat   claimed way back in Jan but training well for George Papaprodromou as if he is meant and ready in his return to the race wars......race 2 back is strong and disguised by a poor trip

race 4    slightly below average clarity

5  Fashion Plate   exits a fast heat where this filly ran wide close to a decent pace.....did fairly well to only get beat by 8 1/2L.........stellar works since.........1st long but the connections didn't put out $340K in July to develop a sprinter.......should be in the race from the get go and with the meets top gun in the saddle

4  Afsana   trainer is miles better with 2nd time starters and the 1st start (on the grass at a mile) for this filly is decent.......and the conditioner Eoin Hardy seems to be  awakening from the doldrums.........two-year-old is bred well to appreciate the BHp AW

7  Morning Star   Baffert (who is firing on all cylinders) 1st timer is working well enough to possible be ready to handle a route of ground in her MSW debut

6  Star Act

race 5    slightly above average clarity

7  Accommodation    solid MSW debut win especially for Warren who is much tougher with 2nd time since are stout......comment in my trip notes were "believe this filly is a good one"......and Stevens wants the mount with Leparoux having left town

1  Prayer Be Mine   lived up to her 4-5 odds in MSW debut winning despite a bad trip.......trainer has an excellent history winning once again following a maiden breaking win.......stout trainer/rider combo

3  Harlington's Rose   cut back in distance appears to be a plus......and cut back in competition is an obvious plus.........Maldonado is cold but still awfully dangerous with a speed type like this Knapp filly

4  Rovenna

race 6    slightly below average clarity

4  Larocco   ran awfully big in maiden debut winning despite a bad trip in a race run on the Bhp surface.....4 races since at other tracks are not too shabby either........blinkers off and a nice work tab........believe all out today to take advantage of the Hol AW before it vanishes forever

8  Frandontjudge   lone one turn sprint race with the blinkers on stands out as her turn today and the meets top gun remains up for the 3rd straight time

1  Ascription   blinkers on led to 3 nice efforts in  a row......tossed a clunker in last........needs a rebound.....fits fine if she produces one

2  Tookmebysurprise

race 7    slightly above average clarity

2  Mechaya   powerhouse MSW debut in 2012 for this Grade 1 placed filly bodes well for her chances running off of the extended hiatus from racing..........and the works eye popping

6  Tappingintherain    on the right end of the learning curve.......last fits well enough......more would be icing on the cake.......good sign Gary Stevens sticks with the Kruljac runner

5  Gifting   best two lifetime races were her only two efforts at my guess is Baffert has her quite ready for today which might be her last chance to compete on her favorite surface

race 8    average clarity

3  Amulay   new connections seem to realize this three-year-old filly is at her best running long on main track surfaces.......and her very best seems to be her lone route race run at Hollywood

1  Pawn Shop   consistent sort claimed for 10K two races back drops 2nd out after the claim three claiming notches (but out of a slowly run 16K claimer) fits well here but not overwhelming as often would be the case with a 2nd place finisher in a 16K dropping to 8K

9  Pure Blush   blinkers off seems like a good thing looking at the last two races she ran with them off 9 and 10 races ago......and there is a significant jock upgrade

2  English Puddin

7  Tribal Rain

10  Psalm Sixteen
