Santa Anita for Saturday 4 January 2014

Seems like a good Saturday card.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

2  Afflication   1 for 1 at SA on the dirt and the effort if repeated would crush say he has remained in good health

7  Graeme Crackerjack   back to Bejarano who got a strong effort/fig out of this Bonde runner 2 back at Bhp......gelding can also handle conventional our top pick his a.m. work hints he is in decent physical condition

1  Tuckers Point    another who is one for one on the SA dirt........the effort was at today's distance and at one claiming notch higher......will be motoring late

5  Only The Gold

Long-shot consideration:   3  Hasty Bomb    small time trainer sure has woken this eight-year-old up with a par like effort sprinting at Bhp in his last at 66 to seems somewhat better at a route.......3rd out for the trainer and if he improves him once more then this gelding might get a piece of the pie.......kind of doubt a winner

race 2    average clarity

1  Taste Like Candy   impressive 6 1/2L MSW win at SA sprinting......and did it running wide......then she fired a solid 2nd routing in a Grade 1 at Bhp.......proven "real dirt".......proven at a route........should be tough again today

4  Crushed Velvet   won her MSW debut at 1st asking and it was a very fast heat..........and she broke a little tardy and rushed some.....earned an adjusted for trouble Santucci fig that fits at today's higher level......1st at a route of ground but bred to handle it

race 3    slightly above average clarity

2  Midnight Transfer   off since May but training exceptionally well and fits big if fully set of preparatory works for Gaines runner in many a moon......and draws tho hotter than usual Beajarano

3  Color Of Courage   solid layoff run in reassuring a.m. work since.......good move forward the last time this fellow ran 2nd out following a long layoff.....seems likely to show more today

5  Cyclometer   seems best at today's 6F distance........and seems best at SA.......fits if he is up to his very best.......and he has the right track and distance to produce it

race 4    slightly below average clarity

8  Yankee Rebel   great spot for a new shooter in this seemingly weak group of 40K shooter in that he has been sprinting on the grass not routing.........his sprints sure fit here and if he can duplicate those efforts at a route he looks tough in this spot.......and his pedigree says he should handle a turf route

4  Sinfully   seems best at 1 mile on the grass and seems best running on the SA grass course......gets both today......and he drops back to where Deleon claimed him for at 40K

5  Know More   woke up some in last 1st off the claim by Kitchingman........given some time off and returns as a 1st time gelding.......that seemingly gives him a shot at moving forward this if he does

1  Square Dancer

race 5    average clarity

5  Bayan   very expensive purchase for a $4K sire hints he must have looked stellar at sale.........and the works are strong even by Baffert standards......1st timer sure appears meant and ready

4  Hold Everything   3 consecutive route races to start career and all three show that he has ability but that also hint he wants to run short not long........and route to 7F seems like the prefect fit

6  Los Borrachos   37 to 1 in MSW debut for a Mandella runner and the fact he used a low percentage apprentice rider says the debut was a tune-up.......switch to Bejarano.......full throttle go today

8  El Nino Terrible

Long-shot consideration:   7  Z Z Thunder   another who looks as if he was given a gimme in since the race sure are strong

race 6    below average clarity

4  Divine Way   on the right end of the learning curve and just popped a bullet 4F drill........positive trend seems likely to continue this afternoon......shot to give T C Baze his 1st win in his comeback attempt

6  Sheza Smoke Show   2nd lifetime start and her 1st on the grass was decent.......and she might have plenty left in the tank for today as she was boxed in for the stretch run....retains a good sprint turf jock in Talamo

9  Sweet Bliss   Shirreffs is better with turf 1st time starters than dirt 1st time starters......that is quite rare........filly owns a good grass pedigree and is training well enough to be ready for her MSW debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

3  La Sorella

Long-shot consideration:   5  Among The Stars   showed she can handle a turf sprint in latest and the effort is disguised by a bad trip and the also the loss of the whip on the turn.. .....blinkers on to help focus.........jock will be out to make amends

race 7    average clarity

1  Appealing Tale   best ever and a blow these away like effort was this colt's only race at SA on dirt rated "fast"........fell off some in last but ran a strong effort 2 recent work hints at a rebound

6  Educated Guess   won last which was career start no. 2 in a fig on the AW that doesn't fit here........won debut on the SA dirt in a fig that does fit despite the race only being a Mdn20K affair..........two good works at 6F and 7F and a good route pedigree hints the transition to route racing will not be problem

3  Curly Top   lone race on the SA dirt was at today's distance and it arguably his his best 6F work and it was just 6 days ago.......likely feeling good off of the 7 week break in the action

4  Cat Burglar

race 8    average clarity

9  Jeranimo   seems best at today's 1 1/8th on the turf.......stout grass runner has won this race in 2 of the last 3 years..........gets Bejarano and gets one of the softer Graded races that he has ever seen....that'll do

4  Dubai You X Y Z    one nice gelding to have never won a Graded Stakes or any Stakes for that matter.........(3 2 1 0) at SA on the grass and 1 for 1 at today's distance.........seems likely to sit close and get a ground saving trip

1  Slim Shady   declining Stakes horse at SA.........and best on the lead.....seems like the front end is possible here.....dangerous

2  Te Rapa

race 9    slightly above average clarity

5  Awesome T   good forward move in 2nd lifetime race......and today we get a major league rider switch (from single A to the Major Leagues)........1st on conventional dirt is ? mark

8  Seeking Asylum   not much in 2nd lifetime start on the AW........debut on the SA dirt is good and somewhat disguised.........back to the SA dirt today and with a rider change with a jock in a slump to one that is not

3  The Mad Hungarian   dangerous trainer in 3rd lifetime starts which is the case here.........last fits some but the improved dills since indicate a move forward is likely to occur today and he fits if it does happen

4  Head South

10  Sooo Magic

9  Regal Randy
