Santa Anita for Sunday 5 January 2014

Average card at best today. Be back with you on Thursday providing I don't freeze to death before then. 20 below tonight with a high of 10 below Monday (15 - 25 mph winds) I maybe a Midwest boy but I sure hate the brutal cold......the coldest it's been in 2 decades.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1   He's Not Too Shaby   obvious health issues but does well with T C Baze aboard and seems best on the SA dirt

4  Change Of Plan   good history sprinting on main track the small step up level wise especially following a vastly better recent work

2  One Firm Cat  better runner on the conventional dirt........should welcome a return to it.......claiming price cut in 1/2 today

6  Perfect Jersey

race 2    slightly above average clarity

6  Cougarontheprowl   best set of drills for a Puype 1ster in quite some time.....good pedigree for sure could.......draws the selective and red hot M Smith

5  Jetbird   solid debut 2 back at SA.....bombed on the AW at GG in 2nd out.......laid up a long time but owns some powerful drills in preparation for today.......should love getting back on "real dirt"

2  Caribe D'oro   decent move forward in 2nd lifetime start way back in since but she sure is training as if she is meant and ready to roll fresh off of the bench

race 3    average clarity

5  Woebegon   big rebound in last......and loves the main track at SA......seems like the controlling speed here.....step up a level says she is doing well

1  Appealing Resume   fairly consistent sort reunites with Bejarano (a jock upgrade here) who owns the last win with this filly which was 4 races back......and the race was at SA

6  Only Josie Knows   last two races on the AW fit here and both were somewhat disguised by not too hot of trips........not sure if this filly can handle the conventional dirt but she fits fine if she can

race 4    average clarity

4  Two Blue Hens   strong race turf to AW 2 back.....handles the SA dirt.......turf to dirt today......very likely to get a nice mid pack relaxed and alone position versus 3 speed foes and 3 deep closing foes

6  Elusive Luci   lead type only to date needs to put away the 1 and the 7 horse most likely.......might be speed of the speed

3  Raven wild    seems like the best of the 3 deep closers and draws the red hot Bejarano

7  Small Moves

race 5    average clarity

2  Deception Free   decent history running 7F at SA......race lacks speed and he has a touch and he has a good gate jock up in Maldonado

14  Italian Mirage   earned a solid adjusted for 5L of trouble fig in her lone race ever on the SA dirt which was rub 2 races back.......7F looks like a good fit comes off a grass route

3  Gentleman Pete   significant jockey upgrade and most of career fits.........but what a hanger........23rd attempt to get her diploma

8  Adamar

race 6    average clarity

6  Footbridge   all three route races on the SA main track are very impressive and would be here formidable if he takes to the grass in his 1st ever on it and do it off of a hint he's ready......pedigree is good for the turf

2  Brother Pete   blocked in the stretch or would have won at this level in latest.......Bejarano sticks around.......jock seems likely to get a good ground saving mid pack position

4  Peace And Justice   won MSW debut in N.Y. and was bet hard......horrid trip in 2nd lifetime start and ridiculous pace set in 3rd lifetime start all in the N.Y.....toss those races tab says all systems go for today for this beautifully bred colt

8  Julies Journey

race 7    slightly below average clarity

5  Public Policy   best by far (and better than par) was his MSW debut 3 back in his lone race at SA and lone race with Bejarano.......SA and Bejarano today

2  This Cat's Awesome  strong MSW debut especially for a Sherlock 1st timer.....fell off some in 2nd lifetime endeavor........good drills since.....rebound city today

6  Lucky Jack   worked fairly well prior to his debut and did not run too hot......much better drills since and his trainer Carla Gaines is much better with 2nd time starters

10  Sir Vronsky  (tie for 4th pick)

12  Nooten (tie for 4th pick)

race 8    slightly below average clarity

8  Pontchatrain   2 for 2 on the SA hill and seemingly never sharper.......and.......Proctor and Stevens are one hot combo these days.........good worker but never as good as right now

3  Purim's Dancer   bit short fig wise but loves the rail in turf sprints and draws a good post to save a ton of ground when many in this field will not

2  Kindle   speed of the speed here but has rated in the past........and I like the switch to Bejarano from Maldonado as Bejarano will be more likely to save something in the tank for the late stages of the race

7  Ultrasonic

race 9    slightly below average clarity

8  Sweet Lips Pooh   best race by far in this runners 8 race career was her lone sprint race at SA.......fig and pace run that day fit well here......and....... this filly was guided by a low % she is guided by a high % jock

1  Strollin Home   big awakening in last in 3rd lifetime start........cut back in distance seems like a good thing......conventional dirt still is a ? mark but her pedigree isn't too bad for it

2  Faith Proof    good work regiment for this O'Neill 1ster......seems dangerous

4  Ninnavee

14  Roshomatic

7  Hanna No Sir
