Santa Anita for Friday 10 January 2014

Average Friday card this afternoon at beautiful Santa Anita. The cards for Saturday and Sunday look decent at first glance.

Best of luck as always!

race  1    average clarity

3  Coco de Carchy   a bit too ambitious of a step up in latest......back to a level where fits with her "B game" and she would be very tough with her "A game"........lone race on the SA dirt is much better than appears in print.....checked early and ran very wide

6  J K's Mischief   filly seems best sprinting on main track surfaces.......last 5 main track sprints (5 2 1 1).........solid rebound in last running 2nd despite breaking a bit slowly and running wide at a slightly higher level

4  Firendesire   3 for 6 sprinting on main track surfaces at today's distance.......0 for 10 everywhere else........bad trip in her last race on the main track (which was run 2 races back) could have been a win if not for running 3 wide and getting bumped in the stretch.......seems slightly best on SA convention dirt

race  2    average clarity

4  Atascaderan   very impressive series of endurance building work-outs for this Sherman 1st timer........solid drills time wise and spaced apart weekly.........that's impressive.......rather sure this fellow is meant and ready and I doubt he will be short

6  Pressure Time    good MSW debut on the grass........blocked 3 or 4 lengths in the stretch......might have something left in the tank......and I prefer his pedigree to handle the dirt more than the turf........might be formidable in 2nd lifetime start this afternoon

3  Charismick   Troy Taylor 1ster is sure training great on the conventional dirt at Turf Paradise......and the trainer has a good history with first time starters albeit outside of the tough Cal circuit

race  3   average clarity

4  Water Issues   nice 1st ever on the sod in latest.....ran 2nd to the boys and chased a solid pace.......looks likely to get another ground saving close up position.........might even lead..........and best of all she faces one weak looking bunch

5  Stole a Kiss   filly state-bred takes a logical drop into high priced claiming........good history without the blinkers and they come off today......1st on the grass seems to be the question mark

2  Lady of the Nile

3  Ascription

race  4    slightly above average clarity

6  Whipstock   likes the SA dirt..........and seemingly has never trained better........and last but not least he likely feels awfully good for Jeff Bonde to step him up so much

3  Di Conti    seems like the best early foot in the race......and well placed to 30 Dec drill is most reassuring that he's held his form

4  Judge Carr   claim back by Hess has improved of late (and Hess obviously knows this) both in early pace and final time......the four-year-old has been doing well in the mid pack/stalk position and seems as if he will sit pretty once again behind the speed of the 3 and the 7 here

1  Bob Consultation

race  5    slightly above average clarity

6  Jet Warrior   won like a good thing at 1st asking in his debut way back in May......just the kind you would get ready fresh once again........impressive works support the notion.........from a scale of 1 to 10 I would peg his turf pedigree as a 6

5  Warren's T. Baze   best ever was his lone sprint grass race run 3 back in his maiden debut over at Bhp..........graduated on 9 Nov and his work regiment since suggests he has been pointed for this race since.......seems ready fresh off the bench and well meant.........come on struggling T C Baze nice grass rider when he is right

1  Midnight Casanova   just claimed by Matt Chew from Hollendorfer off of a better than appears maiden claiming win.........decent breeding to run on the sod........and Chew historically speaking is quite good 1st out after a claim

4  Handsome Dennis

race  6    slightly below average clarity

7  Boss of Me   layoff run in last wasn't bad and I believe this Hendricks runner is better suited to a route.........1 mile today and a major league rider upgrade........likely to move forward and might be capable of a better than par race this afternoon

3  Tiz Futurity   another with a positive jock change........wide trip in last (and much closer to the front) hides a decent has a decent record back in short rest.......and 15 days off since last sure qualifies as "short rest"

8  Citron Kid   long long overdo drop out of MSW racing to stop the red ink........draws Bejarano which suggests this Carava runner is in relatively good health.......? is 1st ever on the conventional dirt......only race on the synthetic is so so

2  Pot Roast

Long-shot consideration:   1 Wistfullee Mine   on the right end of the learning curve and his last effort is better than appears in print......race lacks speed and he owns some........might get awfully brave if he manages to shake free early

race  7   average clarity

5  Warren's Flasher   hidden city here so let's hope she's feeling good.......toss out last on the AW as this five-year-old mare is quite a bit better on the grass.....toss out previous as she clipped heels and pulled up basically.....race 3 back was impressive with a very bad trip losing about 9L and only losing by 3L.....Talamo rode the race 3 back and will be out to make amends today......1 1/4 is a ? mark but it is for everyone in here

7  Level Headed   everything Stevens rides for Proctor on the grass is running at a high level and this mare likely will as well.......1 1/4 might be a bit too far as this gal has flatten out a little in both her 1 1/8th grass races.....still I expect to be tough here

2  Sweet Tess   good forward move in latest 2nd out after a pace runner likely will be a factor in the late stages

8  Scooter Bird

race  8    average clarity

2  Kahala   exits a fast heat in her maiden debut (fmdn50K) with not the best of trips where she only needs a small move forward and a cleaner trip to be formidable at today's fmdn30K level......away for 7 weeks but her a.m. prowess says she's ready

8  Fashionably Rich   on the improve with every start.......with another move in the right direction  +  a cut back in distance of 1/2 furlong (which sure seems like a plus as she tires late at 6F)   +   some early speed   =   a top contender

4  Tim's Go Girl   whenever you see decent gate works and soft non-gate works look to the gate works to judge a runner's chances of being ready for their debut as it isn't so easy to hold (and disguise) one's ability out of the gate.......good gate drills here and not so hot non-gate drills....might be ready for a trainer with good starts with mc 1sters

3  Royal Agenda

6  Jogget

10  Warrens Puppy Love
