Santa Anita for Sunday 2 February 2014

Better than average card today.

Don't forget about the early post for today of 11:00 a.m. and enjoy the Super Bowl.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly below average clarity

2  Mahogany Run   trainer is not much with MSW 1st timers but quite dangerous with mc 1st timers..........prolonged - many furlongs put in - work tab for this debuting four year old suggests he is meant and ready

4  Take A Risk   not much in two lifetime starts last winter but worked rather poorly back then........working like a vastly improved individual now.......big factor here if this Bruce Headley runner runs like he is training

3  Second Proposal   competitive in 6 of 7 lifetime races all similar to today's competition.......rider upgrade for today might get a couple of lengths better run out of this Kruljac runner.......and that........might do the trick here

7  Qatar's Pearl

race 2    average clarity

1  Amanda   strong 1st ever in the sod ( at 1 mile) in last setting a solid pace and holding up rather well for a close 3rd.....should be very fit for her 1st down the SA hill......retains Talamo who knows her well

3  Intoxicating Move   positive rider change here for this grass cutter's 1st down the majestic SA hill turf course.......Bejarano will likely come into the picture in the very late stages and I doubt he has to cope much traffic

6  Lake Maracaibo    early career races fit solidly but her last four might be a little short.......maybe Carava can get a little more out of her 1st out off of the claim

race 3    average clarity

5  Putahexonher   very bad trip in mc debut.....did well to only get beat by 8L......rider upgrade for today.......and her trainer is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters.....he's also decent 1st time at a route

6  Visions of Candy   very little speed in this affair might put this filly up close and into the race from the get go......she isn't much but she has crushed many in here in the past

1  Only Be Good   5th beaten 10L for the win in last but the winner won by 8 1/2L......decent back numbers last our top pick she might sit close up early here in what predictably ought to be a dawdling pace

2  Room for Me

race 4    slightly above average clarity

4  Secret Circle   picked him on top in the B C Sprint and he looks sharp right now  so it is an easy decision here.......very special sprinter who is 4 for 4 at the distance

2  Sahara Sky  not impossible to beat our top pick and in all likelihood he would have been my 2nd choice in the B C Sprint if he had run........owns 4 wins and 3 2nd's in 7 lifetime starts......and lastly but maybe most importantly he has a good history running fresh off of the bench

1  Wild Dude   the "now" horse in the field will likely need his best ever and/or for things not to work out very well for our top two selections to upset the apple cart here

race 5    slightly above average clarity

4  Moscato Girl    seems like a good claim by Sadler of a maiden claimer as this filly dueled on a deeper inside in her last and did well to hang on for 2nd on Jan 12th at SA.......and her only other SA dirt race is the best effort of her 5F work 6 days ago is reassuring

11  New Nature   this filly was well behaved in her debut and ran fairly well....and.....her conditioner is much better with 2nd time starters

6  Strollin Home   5 1/2 furlongs was a little too short of a distance for this Proctor filly.........7 1/2 furlongs was a little too long of a distance for this Proctor filly.......6 1/2 seems juuuuuust right.......were talking Three Little Bears here......hey I'm a Grandpa come June

3  Elda

race 6    slightly above average clarity

9  Te Rapa   consistently running well versus better.......and we get a rider upgrade to Mike Smith.......not taking anything away from the nice riding Stra has done on this Zucker runner and other grass horses.......but this is a switch to a Hall of Famer and a red hot one at that

2  Depreciable   just missed at this condition 6 weeks ago at 1/16th less......and it sure looks as if the extra 1/16th today will be right up her alley despite a semi weak effort the only time she saw the distance

7  Olympic Blue   Hollendorfer sure likes to have this runner ready in starter alw/hcp's as his gelding has a perfect 3 for 3 record in them......that makes him a dangerous starter here

5  Tiz Dynamic

race 7    average clarity

2  Footbridge   had his grass tightener off of the long hiatus from racing.......should be all muscled up and ready to roll back on the SA dirt which he has been awfully stout on in the past.......race might set up for off pace running style

3  Cat Burglar   if Martin Garcia lets our top pick slow things done up front then I believe he will be tough down the lane and the one to beat.....but I believe he might challenge Got Even too early and if he does he likely will pay the price....we shall see

7  Got Even   any gear you want early on but can also rate well if allowed to........been surprised Peter Miller hasn't run this fellow "long" more as his efforts are very strong running a route of ground

6  Seeking The West

race 8    average clarity

7  Unusually Green     appropriately named horse so far.......but Puype wisely stopped on this colt and has put a nice series of speed and endurance building works into him.....and hopefully ample schooling at the gate.........bred well for the grass and the distance

12 Alert Bay   GG invader is on the right end of the learning curve........and well bred for his 1st adventure on the lawn.......and his trainer is solid in all the relevant historical categories for today's race situation

8  Prospector Alley   Sadler claimed right out of the box for $50K......the trainer switches surfaces with his newbie form 7F dirt to 8F turf.......just OK turf breeding by my book but Sadler seems quite good at sizing up a horses physique as it pertains to potential grass ability........and a major jock upgrade as well

10  Bodrum

3  Lucky Jack

1  Zackos My Man
