Santa Anita for Thursday 13 February 2014

Decent card to start the new week of racing which will run five straight days through Monday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

3  Majestic Moment   seems like a good claim of a gelding who might be best on the SA dirt......reassuring 6F decent work put in by his new conditioner Steven Myadi who is a stout 34% 1st out after a claim with his last 44

4  Tuckers Point   6 of his last 8 efforts fit solidly here at the bottom 8K level.......and we get a rider upgrade to T C Baze who is rather hot of late

7  Liberty Cap   six-year-old gelding woke up some in his latest and so has the and rider have teamed up for some strong races in the past

6  Anabaa Premium

race 2    average clarity

3  Ebloussante    Zenyatta's half sister was extremely impressive in her 2nd lifetime start and her only start at SA.........solid work tab hints she sure appreciates the SA surface and will come out firing on all cylinders extended hiatus from racing

4  Macha   good history running on the grass when running at 1 1/16th or 1 1/8th miles.........last sure looks like a turf sprint tune-up to put the finishing touches into this filly who has never been on conventional dirt but who has an excellent pedigree for rider/trainer team in Bejarano/Hollendorfer

5  Changethechannel   lead type only will try to beat the one horse to the 1st turn and if he clears her and can set a reasonable pace she has a shot

race 3    average clarity

6  Boss of Me   solid wake up in last both in pace and final time in a race on the dirt at 1 mile.....handles the grass fairly well and if he repeats his last dirt effort on turf he with be tough as nails here

1  Quiet Force   somewhat of a suspicious drop into claiming but he sure looks formidable here if has another effort (or two) left in him.......the kind I might bet on but would not claim

2  Warren's Tyler S.   bad trip in last which was on the SA dirt is very strong.........broke 1L slow - ck'ed 1.5 - 4w move....... and still only lost by a head.........claimed in the race by trainer surprisingly puts him on the turf.....which is a ? mark as is the distance but his last sure was impressive

4  Tribe

race 4    average clarity

5  Funny Gal   likes SA......seemingly in good form......2 for 4 at today's distance........0 for 6 at other distances............last fits and it wasn't at her favorite distance

6  Holiday n Newport   last sure looks like the layoff gimme to drop and go back in 3+ weeks at today's lower level........but maybe more importantly both lifetime wins were the only two times this filly ran route to sprint which is the case here

1  Clearly Confused   very consistent in her last four which came after Talamo took over the riding duties........and like our top choice she seems best at today's 6 1/2 furlong distance

race 5    average clarity

1  Awe' Some Kitten   filly has run well since she was claimed 4 races back but versus a little too tough.......but those efforts fit well at today's $25K level provided she gets a good trip.........blinkers on and (assuming that her recent near bullet work was with them on) she seems to like the change in equipment

8  Anita Marie   might be a sharp claim as this filly can handle the turf but doesn't seem to care much for route racing which she has been part of in all 3 lifetime grass races.....nice races on the main track sprinting including an impressive dirt win despite a bad trip in her grass seems as if it might be a good thing for this new runner for Steve Knapp

10  Sleep Tight   new trainer in Neil French and with the new trainer we get a major league rider upgrade.......probably needed last......if so lookout here with a much better turf jock and a race under her belt

6  Creditcardroulette

Long-shot consideration:   2  Spiced Latte   last which was her 1st ever down the majestic Santa Anita hill grass course is much better than appears in print........caught wide up on a strong pace and rightfully tired as almost anybody would.......outer 11 post in that race......2 post today.....very dangerous today and likely at a price higher than her morning line of 8 to 1

race 6    average clarity

1  Red N Black Attack   strong race in 2nd lifetime start first time with the blinkers on.......and.......1st time on the SA dirt........another 1st for today that being a route race..........good post and decent breeding to handle the distance........should be in the thick of things from the get go

9  Lieutenant Sassy   gelding has the added advantage of being a route runner his whole career......and.... he moved forward in his latest.......near bullet 5/8th's gate drill since (2/86) hints he is very sharp and might just fire his lifetime best this afternoon

6  Three Strike Rule   plenty of route experience and consistency running long (6 1 4 1) with his worst beat being only 2 1/2 lengths.....1st on "real dirt" appears to be the ? mark

8  Bixley

race 7    slightly above average clarity

1  Bayern   very powerful MSW winning debut and it was at the difficult distance of 7F for a debuting MSW runner.......has trained like something special since in preparation for his 1st at a route which he is very well bred to handle

5  Tap It Rich   goofball so far.....plenty of run in him but a screw might be loose upstairs as he has been rank and drifts out on the turns (reminds me of the recent runner Jaycito).......plenty of work furlongs to get it right.....might be now or never for this Baffert three-year-old who might be something special if he figures things out

2  Papa Paisley   short fig wise but does know how to finish up well in the late stages of his route races.......still.........likely will need best ever and so so efforts from our top 2 choices to get to the circle of joy in this spot

race 8    slightly above average clarity

7  Closet E   owns significant early speed in this affair.......looks loose and lonely on the lead versus softer competition than what he has been up against most of his career

9  Illybilly Boy   slowly developing sort might take a leap forward this afternoon as this is his 1st race since being gelded.........he sure liked 7F in his last which happens to be today's distance

8  Reps and Warrants   this fellow's one turn races aren't too bad so if O'Neill's notion that the blinkers off can improve this three-year-old is correct he ought to be in the hunt for the top prize in this spot

4  No Longer Blue

10  Samurai Assault

6  Stenoa
