Santa Anita for Sunday 2 March 2014

Decent card if of course the track plays fairly even as it drys out. Great week of sunny and dry racing next week. Sure is welcome after such a dismal one.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

5  Miss American Pie   laid up since March but won his maiden debut by 12 lengths.......solid work series and the hot bug boy is up........and Sadler has been putting him on live mounts the last couple of months

4  Clearly Confused    excellent history for Diodoro (5 2 2 1) who is as hot as he has ever been at SA........filly sure has been improving and she seems likely to keep the trend going

2  Tempe   Az bred is a stellar 5 for 7 at today's distance......trainer has a solid history with shippers.........lead type only has a shot at getting the front and if she does she might be difficult to catch

race 2    slightly below average clarity

(race has been taken off of the turf)

7  Botch    turf fit and now gets a shot on the main track which he can handle and quite a few of the "grass" horse's in here have few credentials on it.......very sharp 6F work hints he is at peak form

2  Square Dancer    another grass horse that seems to be in good form.........handled an off track the only time he ran on one.........ran poorly only time he competed on a fast will he handle a drying out track?

3  Yankee Rebel   very consistent grass cutter has never raced on a conventional dirt surface little lone a track that that likely will be something other than fast.....might be the one to beat if he takes to it

5  Full Consent

race 3    average clarity

2  South Sound   unless the rail becomes dull with the drying out track this O'Neill three-year-old filly looks dangerous loose and with a reasonable pace....and that of course would make her tough running at a level that fits well

6  Time For Angie   has won 3 straight and two of those wins are with today's jock.....sure like the step up as it indicates a happy healthy filly.......should be coming on strong in the late stages

4  Larocco   nicely improved since Periban claimed albeit on the sod......yet to show much on conventional dirt but I do like her Pedigree to handle on off surface

race 4    average clarity

5  D' Obsession   a cornucopia of good stuff.........1st time gelding..........blinkers on.........1st time Bejarano.......drops.......shipper from Tup sure appears to mean business

4  Shoer Hugh   running lines hint that 7F will be a good fit.......poor trip in last bobbling at the start and running wide on a slight rail biased day.......that race sure fits solidly here........same level today and one reliable trainer in Peter Miller

6  Benba   GG invader's last 4 main track races fit decently here......and this four-year-old gelding is 1 for 1 on conventional track seems to be the ? mark it is for so many because few have seem an off track the last couple of years in "it never rains in California"

1  Judge Carr

race 5    average clarity

2  Honey Ride   both lifetime sprint races are par or better when you adjust for trip trouble.......and the running lines..... and the recent works..... and her pedigree are screaming out for a route race

6  Candy Eye   talk about being on the right end of the learning curve......young filly has run into shape and one more move in the right direction sure would make her tough today

5  Hugh Knew   laid up since running a solid two turn grass race back in August.......nice work regiment hints she is ready and if she is she has a shot at wiring the field

race 6    slightly above average clarity

6  Joint Attempt    fired a decent effort on the last day of January when Sadler was rather cold......he's not cold more sure seems likely 2nd out after the claim this afternoon.....and the recent drills support the conclusion

7  Shared Sacrifice   much better horse on the GG grass than the GG AW in 6 lifetime starts all at GG......has always worked well on the dirt at Pln.......fits here if she can duplicate her two grass efforts on the SA dirt this afternoon

2  Raven Wild   Sadler runner keeps dropping without much success......but today we get a jock upgrade....... and.......a solid recent 6F drill which was put in just 6 days ago

race 7    slightly below average clarity

3  Cook Inlet   just claimed by Hollndorfer and that is a dangerous thing with a consistent sort like this fellow is.........only lifetime effort on an off track was at Pen and it was decent......Bejarano has a good history on this gelding

4  Twin Six   really improving since finally getting to compete on conventional dirt.......significant step up indicates he is doing well......decent pedigree for an off track

6  Harlington Night   last sure looks like a tune-up in a race where he couldn't be claimed to tighten up and be fully ready on the drop into claiming.....and the trainer sure has been on a roll of late

8  Dress Code

Long-shot consideration:   10  Usbek Thunder   1st time gelding today and just worked a stellar 7 furlongs suggesting the ultimate equipment change has done this A. C. Avilia runner some good....trainer is showing hints of awakening from the doldrums

race 8    average clarity

1  Tiz Dynamic   recent 6F drills strongly suggest this Baltas runner has remained in top form.....and now he gets Bejarano on his back.....and only race on an off track (I rated "good" in my notes) is solid and disguised by a very bad trip

5  Seeking The West   vastly improved with the blinkers added in his last two races.....and back to Mike Smith who owns the only win on the Ellis runner in his lone mount on him

8  Planet Sunshine   all four lifetime races run at SA are better than par.....would have rated higher if I wasn't concerned about his ability to get the 1 1/8th miles as well as he has at 1 1/16th

4  Honduran

race 9    slightly average clarity

3  Remind Mee   laid up since 23 Mar 13 but training as if ready to roll.....3 of 4 lifetime races are very solid for today's level......good speed and a 5 1/2F hot....... can do no wrong...... trainer at the helm

2  Charbroiled   nice turf MSW tightener in debut......impressive for the level 6F drill the hunt for the top prize here if handles the drying out dry

9  Dehere Is Gone   forward move in 2nd lifetime race......fits fine if he manages another forward move in this his 3rd lifetime start

Long-shot consideration:   6  Slick Caper    eventful last to say the least.........had 11 lengths of trip trouble and was beaten by 8 3/4L for the win at one mc notch higher........come on April

4  Slight Edge

1  Nonno Tunaga
