Santa Anita for Thursday 27 March 2014

Don't miss out at saving a few dollars ( $4 to be exact) on our special full card selections for Kentucky Derby day by signing up early. Or save $20 on a great package of 4 special pubs we are offering this year. We are calling it Rich Santucci's top 4 race days.

Seems like a average card today. On the 1 to 10 scale I'd call it a 5 or a 6.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  You Wanna Hug   great spot for a sprinter attempting to get a route......looks loose and lonely on the lead and with an apprentice who knows how to get the job done with his 7 lbs. off advantage

1  Honest Desire   last sure looks like the sprint gimme placed way over her head to come back in short rest 2nd out after the claim and .......go.....go.......go in a route back where she fits today

3  Unkept Rendez Vous   seems likely to sit 2nd or 3rd saving ground thru turn 1 and if our top selection can't handle the two turns this mare might inherit the lead.......trainer sure could use a win......(0 for 18 and counting)

7  Wild Raven

race 2    average clarity

1  Not a Love Song   solid move forward both in pace and final time in 2nd lifetime start (albeit in the slop).......going long in 3rd lifetime start and her speed should put her on the lead for a stout trainer/rider team........three-year-filly is bred well to get the mile.......Bonde is very dangerous 1st time with a given horse placed in maiden claiming

4  Perfect Cursive   33 to 1 in MSW debut on the sod at one mile sure suggests the race was an endurance building tune-up of sorts.........and like Bonde Mandella is solid 1st time in maiden claiming

5  Consecrate   winning as an owner is addictive and when things go well you yearn for another visit to the circle of joy.....that and the fact that the recent earnings make it easier financially to drop an expensive maiden into maiden claiming......especially into high priced maiden claiming.......Kaleem Shah Inc / Baffert are 7 for 10.....that is impressive to say the least

race 3  average clarity

1  Do Some Magic   horse is coming around.......rider is coming around..........trainer is red hot........good post........gelding has to go bad in the race not to be very tough here

3  Unusual Green   hello turf and/or hello blinkers off and/or hello route......Puype colt sure woke up in 4th lifetime start 1st at a route....1st on the grass.....1st running minus the blinkers.....better post.....same jock and turf distance......should be in this closing late

2  Heat Flash   three year old exits a key race where he managed to run 2nd (with a gap of 5 to 3rd) in his 1st ever on the green carpet........always tough for 3 to compete with 4 this time a year at a route but the easiest spot is usually in a 1 mile route race on the turf

6  Sun Spots   just kept improving with (almost) each and every start in 2o13........3rd out following a 6th month layoff and the learning curve is repeating itself in 2014.......appears to be sitting on his lifetime best and that sure makes him dangerous here

race  4    average clarity

4  Tasha's Courage   cut back off one furlong to 5 1/2F sure appears to be a major plus as this Armstrong runner ran two 2nd place finishes at the distance and the 2nd one was quite strong and with Stra up.....I am Kayla Stra fan but she is no Joe Talamo......and today we get Joe up and up at 5 1/2F

7  No Ez Money   eventful green running maiden claiming debut.....did show some life after settling down.......drops a notch and tries a new rider.....owns some early gas if this five-year-old 2nd time starter manages to exit the gate better this time around....very dangerous if he does

5  Dehere Is Gone   OK debut 3 back.....followed by much better of a race in 2nd lifetime start........OK race in 3rd start.......... better race today????

6  Mahogany Run

race 5    slightly below average clarity

7  Lord Kitra   well meant both times this Armstrong filly dropped down with a win and a miss by with that in mind the layoff turf sprint alw run in last sure looks like a public work-out to drop and go this afternoon in a turf mile

6  Putahexonher  dirt sprint debut to dirt route (off of 17 days rest) produced a maiden breaking win........decent (bad start) turf sprint in last.......turf route today off of 20 days rest..........hmmm

3  Incredible Journey   slowly declining sort might be ready for a small rebound as she just worked a solid 5F and worked it just 5 days ago......might feel good coming of an improved a.m. showing

1  Clearly Anointed

Long-shot consideration:   8  Commander Cloud    not exactly big name connections for this six-year-old-mare ......but the mare can run to the scene jock up (helps the price) and he has looked good riding on the grass.......not impossible with a clever ride

race 6    slightly below average clarity

1  Valdirone   was on the improve with every start when last seen in the winter of 2012/2013........sure looks ready fresh off of some fast drills at LA.......likely will be formidable if his development continues where it left off........and Brian Koriner's laid up runners have put in a good showing of late

8  Parliamentarian   another laid up runner and this gelding best be ready fresh off of the bench because so far the 6 year old has had only one start in 2012 and one start in and done drills and a good trainer in these situations in Bruce Headley

6  Master Chef   consistent sort seems at his best on the dirt track at SA........Hollendorfer/Bejarano.........has won this condition multiple times in the past.......should be a major fact here

5  Judge Carr

race 7    average clarity

2  Awesome Prospector   vastly improved both in pace and final time since the blinkers were added 2 races back.........seems highly likely to save ground thru the 1st turn and that folks is half the battle in two turn grass racing.......shot to make it 3 in a row in the win column

5  Lucky Views   outside of his only race on conventional dirt this Machowsky three year old gelding has done little wrong in his four race career........solid 2nd in last at today's 1 mile on the sod (lost by a nose) and it was versus open company..........back facing Cal-breds today

1  Christopher Street   best of the off pace types in here will be hoping the 2 - 4 - 5 will press the issue early and cut out some fractions conducive for a late runner.........should be motoring late if that occurs.........Mike Smith knows this runner well having been up for 6 of his 10 lifetime starts

7  Awesome Return

Long-shot consideration:   6  Deraptor  when last scene last April this four-year-old won his 1st ever at a route albeit a route on the AW at GG.......shows up in a new barn..........Mike Puype sure has this fellow working stoutly........ as if he wants him at full throttle for his 1st ever on the grass......pedigree for the green carpet isn't bad

race 8    average clarity

3  Moscato   all of career seemingly fits here.......hard not to see this Sadler filly being in the mix and in good position from the get go........race lacks much early speed and she owns some

8  Papa's Dancing    three year old filly has tossed 2 consecutive dull races since her maiden debut effort that fits well here........blinkers on and much better a.m. work.........assuming this filly worked with them on much more can be expected today.......trainer seems to gearing up these days

9  New Nature   best by far was lone race at today's 6 furlong distance which was run 2 races back........and the effort is somewhat hidden with a bad trip.......same effort with a better trip and she will be the one to beat

1  Wilcat Janine

6  Wild Optimism

2  Tiz But a Dream
