race 1    average clarity

3  Quinnette    like that Martin Garcia is aboard as when he rides this Ellis mare he tends to send her and as a handicapper I want that to occur here as there is a lack of early speed in this race.......1 for 1 at today's 7F distance and the race was at SA

7  Nueva Fortuna   on the right end of the learning curve and just claimed by Ron Ellis who is stout 1st out following a claim........both lifetime wins for this filly were at SA

1  Tiz A Saint   most of this 2nd out after the claim Richard Baltas fillies carrer on main track surfaces fit in this spot........filly has been routing but the cut back to 7F seems OK (as opposed to a cut back to shorter sprint distances)

9  Midnight Candy   has shown she can run some in all four lifetime races but the MSW level seems a little too tough for her....... so .........Desormeaux logically drops her into maiden claiming.......only cost $8K at sale so being put up for $40K doesn't concern me much  

4  Cora Elizabeth   bad trip (losing about 6L) in last hides a wake-up......rider upgrade and weight off........likely quite dangerous if this filly gets a good journey today

7  Gem Of A Gal   last appears to be an obvious sprint gimme in a protected MSW race to drop and go "long" this afternoon in a maiden claimer........Art Sherman historically is decent 1st time he sends a given runner "long"

8  Yes Yes Baroness

3  Cherubim   six lifetime races three of which fit solidly here......and they are the only 3 he has run at SA.......was a vet scratch on 5 September but worked 3 days later and two more times since.....so hopefully the setback was minor

6  Kristo   also has done his best running at SA and the way in which he is training of late strongly suggests he welcomes a return to it's conventional dirt surface

7  Back Off Buddy   solid layoff run in latest.......and.........he appears to be one of only two true late runners (our 4th pick being the other) in this 7 horse field

5  Storm Power

4  Silver Torch   solid rider / trainer team in 2014.......as for the gelding he just keeps getting better.......and better........and better.......and better........and........

8  Mr. Excavator   not the strongest of final times in this fellow's MSW debut but he was a smooth looking runner which is 1/2 the battle with many young grass horses........should be solid today with a small forward move 

6  Manonize   best ever by far was 2nd out after a layoff in a race run in GB in Spring......so 2nd out after a layoff in the USA makes him dangerous this afternoon

5  Sweet Shop

Long-shot consideration:   9  Native Ride   poor trip in latest hides an improved effort..........and a solid more impressive work tab since......1st on the sod but bred decently to handle it

8  Teton County     this is only this gelding's 6th career start and he is six.....so.. ...the drop into claiming makes sense.......blinkers off and significantly better works.........that suggests the equipment change has improved this lightly race gelding

3  Cuzan   placed versus way too tough in latest as he couldn't break his nw2 other than at Cby so he surely can't handle the same alw condition in S Cal.........placed to win today

6  Heyyoucan   (5 2 2 1) in races where this three year old gelding didn't wear blinkers.......that is the case today for this fellow who is running 1st time out for Julio Canani......jock upgrade and with 6 lbs. less to carry......such a deal

4  Zippingaroundtown

Long-shot consideration:   2 Zenji    1st ever on the conventional dirt and blinkers on for today.......work regiment at Bsr sure hints he likes both......last two drills are very solid........seems dangerous

2  Daddy's Duo   2 of 3 lifetime races sure fit well at today's lower level providing he can handle his 1st ever on "real dirt".....same connections that own/train our top pick in race number two ......ironically this filly also went for only $8K at sale

10  Beach Premier   debut run 2 back fits solidly......last does not........not sure what we get this afternoon.........Steve Sherman is stout dropping multiple levels...... so I am obviously leaning (2nd selection after all) on getting the debut effort

6  Sheza Lucky Strike    good move forward in 2nd lifetime race........and blinkers on for today.....trainer has won with 3 of her last 9 with "1st time blinkers on".....needs another move in the desired direction and might get it

4  Misty Warrior

 

race 7    slightly above average clarity

1  Big John B   3 for 3 since D'Amato took over the training......beat most of these quite easily in his latest.......continues to train like a happy healthy individual

7  Big Kick   totally tossed a clunker shipping into AP on Million day......lead type only is 2 for 2 on the grass at SA and 1 for 1 at today's distance so he deserves another shot

8  Bright Thought   might be rounding into top form and if he is he owns some stellar back numbers (efforts) that would give him a big shot here if he can duplicate one of them today

6  Starspangled Heat

4  Girl Downstairs   seems very ready for her MSW debut.......Baffert 1ster has finished off her work regiment with a flourish putting in 16 furlongs of work (fast work) since 13 September since switching over to SA......rather sure ready and talented

8  Moons Over Me   good MSW debut......Smith sticks around.......Cassidy is usually much better with 2nd time starters than 1st......likely a major player this afternoon

9  Megyns Gold   both AW races since the blinkers were put on fit.......1st on conventional dirt seems to be the ? mark

6  Revenue Virginius

5  Margot Machance   been facing better in Graded races.......needs a confidence builder so Powell wisely puts her in an alw race.......sharp recent 5F work and the fact Desormeaux sticks around both suggest she's sharp and well meant

4  Lady Chitchat   both races run in France in 2014 are solid efforts........laid up since June 8th but she sure is working as if she is all set to preform at the level she was running in the Spring overseas in France

7  Royal Temptress   much improved works since trying the AW in last which was her 1st in the good old U S of A.....back to the grass and the way she is training she ought to be able to strut her stuff this afternoon and maybe make it 2 for 2 on the lawn
