Del Mar for Sunday 9 November 2014
Speed rail bias yesterday out of nowhere on a beautiful day. Can't imagine how unpredictable the racing surface would be if the maintenance crew had to deal with the Nov.weather in the Midwest or the East Coast. Maybe the conventional dirt surface next year will be easier to maintain. I hope so or I might have to be my selections "live" in a podcast or something to adjust to the track as we go.
Might be feast or famine (at least with our top selection) because here is the morning line on our top picks:Â Â 4-1, 8-5, 10-1, 6-1, 3-1, 10-1, 4-1,6-1, 6-1
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â Â average clarity
8 Pulla Train  fresh dangerous speed and only 5F to stick in this abbreviated turf sprint of 7 panels.........and hard trying consummate pro Pedroza found the Fountain of Youth yesterday riding great
4 Snowday  speaking of the Fountain of Youth if this Mandella seemingly diminishing runner finds it he likely will be in the winners circle today
9 Rangi  dismal efforts in last two starts but a ton if rebounds facing the softest he has faced in a long time.......might be speed of the speed and with a good gate and speed rider up
1Â Heat Flash
race 2Â Â Â below average clarity
5 Gold Medallion  dislikes the conventional dirt......should welcome a return to Dmr where he put up 2 wins in 2 starts in the summer meeting
4 Harlington Night  seems to be on the good end of a form cycle and retains Pedroza who knows this gelding well and is coming off of a L.A. hat trick yesterday
3 Uncle Dick  drops from the clouds.....has speed and route speed was king yesterday..........dangerous if he has one run left in him especially with Maldonado up
race 3Â Â Â average clarity
7 Cornbred Red  horrid trip in debut starting poorly and running wide......two useful drills since......race lacks speed and if this youngster breaks well today he showed enough early gas after his bad start to be on or near the lead in this void of speed spot
2 Roper  green stretch run in last but showed plenty of life.......but what we really want is his effort 3 back (would be very strong versus these)......1st on a synthetic surface but I like his breeding for it
4 Guyfromtheskyfive  exits a slow heat in last his debut........but....... did have about 4 1/2 lengths of trip trouble and ran 2nd.......fits well here if he progresses in lifetime start no. 2
1Â Sonic Fever
race 4Â Â Â average clarity
4 Craving Carats  nice awakening with blinkers on and the stronger run appears to have muscled up this Miller runner as his a.m. work since is sharper and the crafty trainer steps his four year old up
10 Compari  wide trip in last versus tougher or likely would have won......drops again and why not as this Jones runner soon will turn nine
5 Trelawny   useful run off of a 2 month break and a nice work since........seemed poised for a good forward move 2nd out off of the layoff and 2nd out following the Diodoro claim
11 Los Bambinos  (tie for 4th pick)
12 Tigah  (tie for 4th pick)
race 5Â Â Â average clarity
4 Home Maid Brownie  solid better than par in lone mc effort 3 back at Dmr........Msw to mc again today and I like her running off a route grass race and cutting back to 7F......should have the endurance to finish well
2 Bench Ruling  all three lifetime MSW races fit at today's lower mc level......Kruljac trains this one as well as out top choice and he is a stout 12 of his last 48 MSW to maiden claiming
1 Blondy's Reward  par like effort in debut and at 51 to 1 ........that race fits and if his jock breaks him well he should be up close early in a race lacking speed
6Â Siena Grace
race 6Â Â Â average clarity
3 Sunday Stroll   blinkers on for today and a sharp 3F speed drill......great day for speed yesterday and if we get the same today his chances are enhanced as I believe he will be a contender for the front end here
4 Southern Owah  weak fig in last for a 2nd place finisher.......to say the least....... but........ does own an important commodity here........as in early gas in a race without much
7 Bold Decision  finally gets to run off of short rest and short rest with two nice works since his last......feeling good....seems poised for best ever
6Â Here Comes Bobbie
race 7Â Â Â average clarity
4 Chilada  highly likely to get a good near the front ground saving trip from her good post in a race that seems set for those up close early
8 Charlie's Angel  very strong 1st run in the good old U S of A in her last.......should be solid here with a better trip than the 4 1/2 lengths of trip trouble she had in her 1st USA race
2 Colonel Joan   4 lifetime grass races and only once did she get a decent trip.......and she won.......good post and a terrific turf jock in Kieren Fallon.....very dangerous and at a price
3Â Feline Forum
race 8Â Â Â average clarity
2 More Complexity  best ever both in pace and final time fig was the only time this three year old filly sprinted at Dmr........repeat of that 6F sprint effort at today's 7F distance likely puts her into the circle of joy for today
4 Warren's Veneda  last time this nice four year old filly ran turf to dirt she crushed her competition by 7L.......turf in last dirt (AW) today......and proven at Dmr
5 Swiss Lake Yodeler  1 for 1 at the somewhat specialty distance of 7F and it was in a Cal-bred Stakes race.........away since April but Hollendorfer has put 36 furlongs of work into her since 2 Oct.......should be fit and ready to roll
9Â Tribal Gal
race 9Â Â average clarity
2 City State  scenario here is: layoff run on 28 June was OK......dull in a.m. after.....dull effort on July 26th........OK layoff run 5 Oct........solid improved a.m. work since   conclusion: exited his last muscled up versus beat up like before......might be set for lifetime best
1 Badwater  basically wiped out on turn one and then showed some life with little chance of doing better than 8th following such an eventful turn one.......improved work since........good post and one trainer in John Shirreffs due to wake up......he still must be singing the miss you Zenyatta blues
3 Synnin  trainer is quite dangerous when taking the blinkers off as he is with this three year old today.....this gelding beat 7 of 11 foes in his lone grass race.....and Zucker is an underrated conditioner with grass horses
