Santa Anita for Friday 1 July 2016
Card seems decent. Let's call it a 7 on the 1 to 10 scale of things.
Best of luck as always!
race 1 Â Â above average clarity
4  Clifton Beach  decent MC debut at a couple of maiden claiming levels higher........two very sharp works in the morning since.......seems likely to build upon his debut......is so he appears to be the one to overcome
5  Knight of Drama  work regiment sure points to a laid up maiden that is returning all set to rock and roll......if that is the case I could just as well put him as the top selection as the 2nd choice
2  Magpie Jimmie  by far training the best of the three 1st time starters in this group but he better have some talent as our top 2 picks seem better than your typical mdn50K favorites
race 2 Â Â average clarity
5  Tangled Up in Ju  looks like the most likely leader if she manages to break well like her latest......so......the switch (and upgrade) to a top gate jock in Maldonado is a timely move
1  Latino Mo  exits a fast heat of MSW runners where being beaten by 15L works out to be a decent number at today's significant lower level......impressive near bullet 3F work 5 days ago at SA and it was rated a breezeÂ
4  Lady's Discretion  if the top choice breaks slowly as she did in 3 of her 1st 4 lifetime races then this fillies chances are enhanced as she will be the likely leader
2 Â One Afleet Star
race 3 Â average clarity
4  Tap It All  nice improvement in 2nd lifetime start......sharp 4 furlong work since........seems up for a repeat of her last which fits well and she might be up for another forward move which would be tough to beat vs this group that doesn't appear very strong
6  Back Off  last three drills for this Baffert 1st time starter hint she has some talent and some early speed......mom has tossed 4 winners from 5 starters and most of them preciously were able to win at two
2  Jilly   good works but not the typical powerhouse drills that most totally ready Bob Baffert babies display
race 4 Â Â average clarity
1  Bendable   it has been awhile since a 1st timer went off a big price and ran a giant number at SA......that is what this R Mandella runner did......she might have surprised the barn hinting she wasn't quite fully cranked........if that is so she has some upside and that is a scary proposition for her foes in this allowance affair
4  Sweet Halory  won like a good thing in her MSW debut last fall at Del Mar.....off since and working well enough to ready once again fresh off of the bench......Mike Smith riding for O'Neill....that's a twist......but.....seems like a positive
3  Run for Retts  good history sprinting with the blinkers on: one win and two seconds in three races ......a little short fig wise but her off pace style seems to fit this race with 3 early speed types
race 5 Â Â average clarity
1  Yavrig  very solid (quite a bit better than par) fig in latest her 2nd lifetime start.......the effort was at Lrc whereas her debut was at SA.....so......was it the surface or just a natural move forward......obviously leaning on the latter......1st at a route is a very strong stat for Baltas.......filly should be in the hunt from the get go
5  Marriedtoaminister  two of five lifetime starts are better than par for today's level......step up in claiming is a sign this filly is doing well for her 1st at a route.......like Baltas Miyadi is also quite capable the 1st time he sends a given horse "long"
3  Trinitys Turn  never puts her head in front (as in on the lead) but she is a route horse (5 0 2 2 at the distance ) in a race full of sprinters trying to get a route for the first time......so if they falter.......she might not hang
7 Â Can't Afford It
race 6 Â Â average clarity
4  Fast Magoo  very impressive in latest both in pace and final time.....repeat of the effort should put her in the winners circle once again.......same track - distance - rider
3  Ebony Cat  ran a distance 3rd to our top selection in latest but usually runs better off of short rest.......and 22 days off qualifies for that
1  Emotional Drive  that very weak endorsement fits here......as in best of the rest
6 Â Royal Drum
race 7 Â Â average clarity
3  Filly On Fire  last appears to be nothing more than a turf tightener.......and it appears to have muscled this filly up as the preparatory works she has put in (for the given level) are the best for a Victor Garcia runner in many a moon ......should go off a big price
4  Radiant Journey  horrid trip in latest and a lack of action on the board both hint her race coming off of a 7 month layoff was a tune-up........and.........that suggests a full throttle go can be expected today
2  Moonie  (4 1 2 1) in last 4 dirt races.....fits well if he brings her "A game" and.......gets a decent trip which is debatable the way usually dependable Mario Gutierrez  has been riding of late.......might have a Ky Derby hangover of sorts
race 8 Â Â below average clarity
2  Camino Del Paraiso  GG invader is proven at a route which seems more significant here than in most Cal-bred MSW affairs........but.........he is not proven on conventional dirt.......if he handles it he sure appears to have a big shot to blow on by most or all in his stretch drive
1  Californiasunshine  last summer this laid up Drysdale filly (faces the boys today) proved she can run on the SA dirt and she also showed she can handle a route in a grass race she ran before needing to be laid off until today......training as if she might be fully ready to roll off of the extended hiatus from the game
5  Mr. Matlock  trained well albeit at LA prior to his MSW debut at SA......let's call his effort a useful race where at least he got accustomed to the SA surface......since the effort he has put in some strong works at LA once again......rather sure he moves forward today....to what degree is the ? mark
4 Â Plain Wrap
6 Â Mintenized
8 Â Hawk's Journey
