7  Unusual Fleet   decent race fresh race vs. better last November and it was run at Dmr.....fresh once again today and working as if Baltas is all business off of the 5 month break

6  County Lineman   six-year-old gelding shows life in most of his races but usually finds trouble that he can't overcome......that is likely getting old for his connections so they drop to the lowest level of his life where even with some trip trouble he has a shot at the circle of joy

4  Malko   running 1st time as a gelding and he just put in 3F gate work that hints he might display more speed today and that would be good here as the race lacks it

4  Decoded    Bonde is a stellar 22% win with his last 100 MSW 1st timers and he appears to have a shot at making it 23% here........finished work regiment with 5 consecutive 5F drills......should have plenty of endurance put in......just bought in May for $120K which isn't exactly an inexpensive Cal-bred

5  Bissou Bissou   Ellis 1st timer finished up with two straight 5F gate works......dad has been disappointing so far as a sire but mom tossed a winner from her only starter to date..... and that starter was able to graduate at two

2  Dixie Chick Rocks   bet in her MSW debut at SA but didn't show much....blinkers on / new surface......training as if both are to her liking.......believe she will show more today.....to what degree is more of the question

3  Tiz Seeking a Win

3  Buymeabond   solid history on the new Del Mar grass course when competing at 8 or 8 1/2 furlongs.......one win and two second place finishes losing by a nk & a hd ......rider upgrade with Blanc away at AP today

1  Te Rapa   much better at today's 1 1/16th distance (7 4 1 1) than the 9 furlongs he had to deal with in his latest.....and his latest wasn't too shabby

5  Horizontalyspeakin   much better running off of fast works but the drills were quite dull prior to his poor showing in his latest......working decently this time around........seems best taking back some these days.....let's see if the rider upgrade makes that happen

6  Brave Act

8  Jet Ski   ran 4th in his debut which is significant in that not only was it in a $100K Cal-bred Stakes at Otp but it was what I believe to be a solid Stakes field ....trained efficiently since at Dmr......should be tough

3  Amodei   after a strong better than par MSW debut this O'Neill baby totally tossed a clunker in his 2nd lifetime start......needs a rebound and without Raffy up this time.......not sure what we will get but if he runs his debut effort he has a big shot in this spot

5  Spidermania   double barrel action from Jeff Bonde as he also trains our top selection......might have quite a bit of talent as he only went for $7K at sale last Jan. and yet shows up in a MSW race.....and the works support the notion

4  Upstaging the Cast

1  China Girl Lover   night and day better when running at 1 1/4 or further........only race at today's 11 furlongs (which was run at Dmr) was solid and disguised by a poor trip by Solis......like the way Van Dyke handles this deep closer and he is up today.....and last but not least likes running off of short rest and that is the case today

6  Seve's Road   should sit close up in this field lacking speed and that is a dangerous proposition when Raffy and the D'A are at the helm

4  Life's Journey   lifetime best was last year at 1 3/8th on the turf at Dmr with Gonzo up.......hmmm......she won that race last Nov by only a head but after that the effort was supported by some significant gaps to 3rd and 4th in a nine horse field.....as in 6 1/2 & 3 1/2 lengths

7  Crown the Kitten

11  Waren's T Baze   fires when he is placed in sprints and seems best at today's six panels.....race two back fits and it is disguised by a rough trip.....can finish well when others in here can't

7  Weirdhaircut Seth   all three lifetime efforts at 6 furlongs or less fit well here.......seems rather suspect in that they gelded him and yet drop him so much......seems like a 50/50 proposition as far as his good health is concerned

8  King's to You   yet another gelded since his last and drops down but not enough of a drop to set off alarm bells.......does have something to prove on conventional dirt or would have rated higher

6  Ballado's Banker

Long-shot consideration:   5  Night Badger  vastly improved a.m. work since he started training at Del Mar......working more like an alw. horse than a low-level cond. claimer......and careful as he is at his best by far at today's 6F distance......and Pena/Palma have upset the apple-cart in the past

2  Big Gray Rocket   brilliantly bred expensive Baffert 1st timer is ready to produce some dividends as he is training like a promising two-year colt that seems destined to compete in Stakes races down the road........ if of course his health remains intact

7  Tybee Island   Richard Baltas appears to have his 1st timer "meant and ready" for his MSW debut off of quite a few bullet works both at Slr and more importantly Dmr

8  Antioch   struggling bug boy is showing some small signs he is coming around ability wise and might be getting a "bone" from Mandella and company as this colt is well-bred and training like he has ability and might show it today.....hang on Austin Solis

4  Gemstone

5  Klimt   solid forward move in start number two to graduate and the a.m. work since all at Del Mar suggest this colt handle the change in surfaces and will move forward once again....good post and then there that is the Baffert/Raffy combo.....45% win & 86% in the money over the last two months

4  Thirstforlife   also moved forward in 2nd lifetime start to graduate for Casse and friends in solid time......the trainer is very dangerous with two year old shippers and sure knows what it takes to win in S Cal

6  Big League   won MSW debut like a good thing and tries to come back in only 2 weeks rest and do it again.....no easy task but definitely dangerous

11  Ashley's Sassy   very powerful race the last time this filly ran "fresh" four races back at Dmr at only 1/2 furlong longer than today......that race sure looks tough here and she had low % Cal jock up that day.......Bejarano is up this time around

5  Fantasy of Luck   tried to duke it out with a monster in her latest and she paid a price as she faded to 3rd......cut back is good as is the fact their aren't and freaky monsters in this spot.....has a shot at continuing her winning ways

9  Call to Congrats   D'Amato isn't that dangerous with 1st starters but he sure is off of extended layoffs with a given horse......that is the case here for his new shooter who used to be trained by a much lower percentage trainer in Gary Mandella

6  Mysterious Miracle

1  Exuberante   with Blanc at AP to ride Arroyo gets a shot to guide this filly and I like that rider switch......back to reality (MSW race) after facing much too tough in her latest.....although I will say she did much better in the race than I anticipated only getting beat by 8+ lengths in a small Stakes race

7  Brooks House   Victoria Oliver consistently upsets the apple cart when shipping into S Cal......so much so it is a wonder she doesn't make sunny Cal her home.....maybe she's afraid that San Andreas fault is going shake rattle and roll some day soon

3  Onzaway   pedigree suggests and she acts like the added distance will be to her liking......how long is one of my favorite trainers in John Shirreffs going to continue to sing the Zenyatta blues....because he sure has been in a prolonged slump since she retired
