Santa Anita for Friday 10 March 2017
Not much quality for today's card but an interesting one. All that missing quality and with large fields for the most part have been saved for Saturday.Â
Best of luck as always!
race 1 Â Â above average clarity
5  Pistol Packin Rose  solid route numbers in last two races especially for a three-year old filly in Jan/Fed and one major significant jockey upgrade......solid preparatory work as well....should be tough despite being only three
8  Summertimemischief  efforts/figs earned when racing on fast rated dirt fit well in this spot.......but she has to give away 6 lbs to our top selection or she would have been our top pick-a-rue
4  Blame the Weather  1st time lasix for this afternoon.....and takes that ever significant drop out of MSW racing to low-level maiden claiming for her 2nd lifetime start......only cost 7K at sale so drop totally makes sense
1 Â Curlin Curlina
race 2 Â Â above average clarity
4  You Missed It  consistent sort sure has been facing extremely tough individuals and she has not embarrassed herself whatsoever........away since early September but she has shown she can run fresh in the past........works are up to snuff........should be tough if she takes to the hill
5  Upfront  lone race was last August where this 2nd time starter was used up badly in a one mile grass race pressing a brutal 1st quarter which would do in just about any two-year filly in August.......likely has matured since and retains Prat.......should be in the hunt from the get go with the best grass jock with young horses on the west coast in Prat
9  Stormin Babe  on the right end of the learning curve...... seems likely to move forward 2nd out following the layoff which is a strong stat for Michael McCarthy......like our top pick she should make a good account of herself if she handles the unusual turf hill configuration
1 Â Of Note
race 3 Â Â average clarity
3  Papaslilprincess  3 for 10 at the distance on the main track.......0 for 23 at other distances on main track surfaces.......improved recent work since her latest and her latest which already fits......that work hints she might be up for even better today
1  Individual Design  another who appreciates the one mile distance offered here.........seems like a decent claim by Brocklebank of a mare seemingly on the rebound.......rider has been hot
4  Private Terrace  like last time this mare might be able to snatch the front end and with 1/16 less to travel she might................go..................all.......................the.....................way
5 Â Veronica Bay
race 4 Â Â below average clarity
3  We Go Now  tepid top pick seems better when he takes back some and has a target to run at......like his chances if that is the tactic that T C Baze takes here
1  R Cha Cha  last might have been a dirty up his form spin around the track in a protected race to drop into claiming and put some doubt into the minds of the claiming vultures.....lookout if this is the case
7  Causa  only lifetime sprint dirt race without blinkers on the main track is a solid fit here.....that race which was his debut would likely take down this affair
5 Â Popular Kid
race 5 Â Â average clarity
3  Illuminant  laid up since May when she won a Grade 1 race........doubt this is a gimme as she has won her last three non Stakes races by 3 1/2 lengths or more one of which was a 6 3/4L win down the hill......5th straight race with Prat up
6  Paquita Coqueta hasn't missed the board in a long time and owns an overall record of (22 11 4 3) overall on the sod........ sure appears to own the best early speed and gets Stevens who has the only USA win for this mare
4  Miss Double d'Oro  strong 30 to 1 2nd in a Grade 3 down the hill when last seen on Nov 5th.......mare appears to appreciate ample time between starts and her trainer shows patience and gives it to her........these kind sure are reliable as you seldom have to be concerned that the race is a tune-up (gimme)
5 Â Prize Exihibit
race 6 Â Â above average clarity
4  Gentrified  last race run at SA sure fits (2 back) and the preparatory work for today is better as is the rider .......believe this colt is sitting on a top effort this afternoon
7  Wilbon  trainer Scott Hansen is rather decent at getting MC 1st timers ready at 1st asking and the works that he has put into this colt hint this youngster is meant and ready......mom has tossed 2 winners from 2 starters
1  Quiet Dude  just popped her lifetime best in her 1st ever at the somewhat specialized distance of 7F........trainer has been fairly hot of late.......might keep the ball rolling here
6 Â Never Double Dip
race 7 Â Â average clarity
8  Princess Karen  toss out her last as she caught a monster and a half in Unique Belle who for me might be the best three old in the nation and that includes the boys.........faces much softer today and gets Smith back who rode the "Belle"......should be in the mix from the get go
3  Life's Blessings  did not disappoint as the heavy favorite in her debut winning by 4 1/4 lengths back on August 27th.......away since but seems wound up off of a series of tightly spaced work intervals......seems ready to rock and roll once again
9  Venezuelan  won for fun (3 1/2L) despite a wide trip and losing the whip..........brutal trip two back or would have won that race by even more .......way too wide and checked on the turn and did it all close to the pace
5 Â Hot in the City
race 8 Â Â average clarity
6  Pearle de Vere  reliable mare racing on the majestic SA hill grass course.......and speaking of reliable how is this stat for Miller/Arroyo as a team over the last two months.......61% win and 83% in the money......should be tough
9  Dissension  seemingly a public work-out in latest at a route on the turf.......back to a turf sprint down the SA hill and her last three run on the unique configuration on firm turf (2 back - 6 back - 7 back) all fit fine here
7  Wealthy Shipman  somewhat suspicious drop but Bejarano could have ridden a few others in the field but stays with this Baltas runner who is a perfect 2 for 2 down the hill
4 Â Algorhythmic
11 Â Where's the D
8 Â Revenue Virginius
