Santa Anita for Friday 7 April 2017

As they always do Santa Anita has carded a fabulous line-up for Santa Derby day tomorrow. Next special pub is now on sale at a cost of $22.95.

4  Vending Machine   obvious up the track gimme in a protected race to drop and go up for a 50K tag this afternoon with some trepidation put into the minds of those considering a claim.....1 for 1 on the sod.......one of the better rider/trainer combo's in the nation

7  Mizzen Me   Kent Desormeaux might have passed on 2 others in this race to ride his bro's horse.......ran a decent (and somewhat hidden) one mile grass race 4 back following a turf sprint......turf sprint in last........8 furlongs of turf today......sure appears to be "meant"

2  Kenzou's Rhythm   good history running in dirt routes (4 2 1 0 1)........so if this three-year old gelding takes to the turf at least we know that endurance won't be a problem........and he does have a decent pedigree for the green carpet

6  Interrogator

4  Veronica Bay   fits well if she is up to her "A game"......and she sure appears to have a decent shot at doing just that as her recent work series is the best she has shown in many a moon

2  Individual Design   good history both at the distance and at SA (16 5 3 3) & (11 3 3 2).........seems likely to get a good trip starting from the 2 post......trainer had strong go of it last week

7  Autumn Twilight   obviously Pender and company made a disappointing claim as this mare was taken for 16K and now shows up for 6K.....but she does draw Maldonado and she does her best running on the front end......seems loose but can she hold it together physically.....toss a coin type

5  Tony Blackjack    ran a significant adjusted for trouble fig/effort in his latest as he broke very poorly and then ran too wide........still managed 2nd beating 9 others.....1st at a route and he owns a pedigree that should take to one.......and his trainer is dynamite 1st a route

3  Catfish Hunter   solid move forward in his 2nd lifetime start and 1st on the grass and a route.......showed he can run on the SA dirt in his debut.......might feel awfully good this afternoon getting to run off of a kinder surface in the turf

2  Incredible Luck   big awakening in his last especially considering he hadn't raced since August of 2015.........that race which was also at one mile on the grass fits fine if he can duplicate the effort

2  Surfin' Safari   lone lifetime race was on 2 Nov 2014 where this now six-year-old mare ran a 110:2 and beat 9 of 11 foes.......returns logically in a claimer......and I like that it is in a mid priced maiden claimer as opposed to a bottom maiden claimer .........and she shows a solid work tab......trainer is (2 1 01) for the meeting and she is good off of extended layoffs

1  Gypsy Treasure   works hint this Sal Gonzalez 1st timer is ready to roll at 1st asking........and draws bug boy Solis who is starting to ride quite well and appears well worth his 7 lbs weight allowance

5  Smitten Kitten   very bad trip in her maiden debut disguises an effort that is not as bad as it appears in print.......see ya bug boy.....helloooooo......Beajarno

1  Table for Three   lifetime best and a good fit in this spot was the only time this filly ran in a turf route.......in that race run 3 back this D'Amato three-year old filly was coming off of a sprint.....sprint race in last - route today......and nice a.m. preparartion.......should be a major player

2  Starlite Style   quite a few lifetime grass race fit well and she is working as if she is up for another........but.....she does like to hang.......3 straight 2nd place finishes and with Bejarano in the irons

8  Gee Street   last might have been a sprint tune-up......and if it was expect much more this afternoon 1st at a route which is right in the Richard Baltas wheelhouse.......and a red-hot trainer/rider combo in Baltas/Nakatani support the notion

race 6    below average clarity

2  Red Stitch   very good SA meeting for Mulhall and she has a chance to add to her win total here with this laid up filly who has been away since 21 July......drops for return which hints she is trying to steal a race without being claimed before she shows too much......we shall see

1  To B. Ava   seems best at today's 6F distance......and speaking of "best" she is coming off her top effort to date and takes a small drop......not out of this by any means especially if our top choice isn't as fit and ready as I think

6  Sid the Squid   good history in sprints when rated fast (5 1 2 1 1).........tough trip in latest hides an OK effort......likely feels good coming out of the race for Sherman to step this filly up

2  Golden Light    last fits OK......big hidden race 2 back.....seems likely to get a good ground saving near the front trip........if she gets that and rebounds to her energy/effort she displayed two back......she.....will......be ......tough

6  All That Heat   like our top selection this girl's last fits OK........but her best was run 4 races back in June of 2016........that race was run off of 4 weeks rest.......5 weeks rest since her last will do.....Prat sticks with the Glatt runner......so like our top choice if she fires her top effort........she........will.....be......tough

1  Jenny U Want It   sure appears to appreciate the new turf that SA put down last summer......she is a little short on figs but often makes up for it with her easy to handle smooth way of going

3  Afendi   Baltas is very dangerous 1st time with blinkers especially in a route race.......takes a significant drop in maiden claiming......and his buddy Bejarano sticks round

7  Woodstock Memory   seems quite sharp right now and I firmly believe that 1/16th less to run today is a plus.....very dangerous if this four-year old can hold form

2  Picture Tube   sure fits on the drop provided he hasn't fallen off form since his latest......connections have been overly reluctant to drop.....so why today.....tough call how this fellow is feeling but if he is OK he will be a major player in the outcome of this race
