Short on comments for a while as I just had cataract surgery on one eye and I get easily worn down using the computer screen. It likely will have to be this way all weekend. Sorry about that.

6  Public House   Mulhall seems as if she is trying to turn this filly into a sprinter.......believe her last run off of layoff at a route at two levels higher was a route conditioner where she was placed at a level that no one would claim her for......she might have been pointed to an 8K......shows up in a 12,500 race and with a solid preparatory work.....trainer might really like what she is seeing

2  Tuscany Beauty   dangerous speed especially if the racing surface returns to day 1 or 2 of the new meeting and not day 3, 4, and 5 where it was hard on speed both turf on dirt

4  Radio Chatter    blinkers off is a key move for Baltas as in 33% with his last 58..... and...... might be even more meaningful for a horse making his for 1st out under his guidance.....significant trainer upgrade and just what you what to see as in a vastly improved work tab

9  Bona Fide Image   seems to need 6 furlongs to put in the kind of finish that can get her to the winners circle for the 1st time.......2 2nd's and 2 3rd's in her last 4 races at 6F .......two of which were run at Del Mar.....might be a hanger and if she runs like I think she will today and fails to go by at the wire I will peg her as one

6  Afleet Ascent   tepid top selection ran an OK MSW dirt debut over at Lrc but likely the connections always had turf in mind as mom has tossed 3 turf winners from 5 starters.....went for $300K in April which is one expensive LA bred

4  Jimmy Chila   O'Neill is at least 0 for his last 27 with debut runners starting on the turf....but......the a.m. work for this MSW 1st timer is too good to ignore.....many works of merit including his last showing which was on 31 Oct and was an impressive bullet 5F gate work at Slr

8  Cute Knows Cute  tough spot in last in a two turn turf Stakes race............likely muscled up from the effort and with more endurance......was on the improve prior to his grass race ........solid co- best in the field number with our 2nd choice in last dirt race......same track just needs to get another furlong 

3  Fracas   aforementioned solid fig/effort for this Callaghan runner who produced it turf to dirt....can he do it dirt to dirt.....we shall see

8  Miss Boom Boom   last 5 grass races fit fine here and the two times she was put up for claiming she won.....Prat - Hollendorfer - a steady work series and back in claimer,,,,,,,,,hard not seeing as a major player here

7  Rosie My Rosie  hadn't been on the turf since mid May at CD and really welcomed a return to it with a solid better that par for today's level effort.....15% trainer in Hess but he is 6 points better than that with claiming repeaters....this girl might feel really good coming back in 2 weeks rest....we will find that out at about 2:30 p.m. this afternoon

8  Tiz Wonderfully   sprint-sprint- route maneuver for this Cassidy two-year old filly who ran two decent sprints to start her career.......trainer shows signs of snapping out of the doldrums .......so with that in mind the recent improved a.m. work seems more significant than usual

6  Spiritualist   MC sprint debut sure appeared to be a tune-up of sorts to drop a couple of maiden claiming levels and be well prepared for today's route ........good sign the meets leading rider Prat sticks around.......solid pedigree to get a distance of ground

4  Ms Wakaya   both lifetime grass races which were run in winter at SA fit well here with the one run on 28 Jan being rather hidden by a bad trip.......nice sprint prep.....sure like the subtle work tab (considering the barn) since the dirt sprint...... especially the 6F work put in just 5 days ago....likely feeling good

7  Battleground State   three-year old filly is on the right end of the learning and her last is disguised by a wide trip in a pace-less race.......and...... since Mr. Drysdale has had a decent 2nd half of 2017 my guess is this grass horse will move forward once again.....and you have to like Prat sticking around

8  Callie Mesa   showed little in her 2nd lifetime endeavor which was at Santa Anita in a maiden claimer.....debut was at Dmr and it was a much better effort and she went off at 35 to 1 hinting she might not have been cranked up that much and surprised the barn.....might greatly prefer the Del Mar surface....if that is so lookout today as the rider up today is much more accomplished than the rider up in her debut

9  Wild Edie   nicely bred and with some decent works showing for a MC32K two-year old filly 1st time starter.....mom has tossed 4 winners from 4 starters all of which were able to graduate at two........good trainer/rider combo/friends over the year in Hess & Desormeaux.......rate it about 60/40 that youngster is meant and ready
