Del Mar for Thursday 23 November 2017
Happy Thanksgiving!
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
3 November Tale  running lines for this three-year old filly our screaming out for a marathon like today's 11 furlongs of sod....and she owns a pedigree that also suggests the longer the better......believe she fires lifetime best today
4 Shazara  solid finishes in her 10 furlong grass races.....and her latest is much better than appears in print as she started poorly and ran way too wide.....earned an adjusted for trouble fig about 4 of 5L better than par for today's racing level
1Â Scandal
2Â You're A Goat
race 2Â Â average clarity
5 Krissys Manicure  last is very strong and if she is up for similar at today's lower MC level she should take down this race.....but.....I am a touch leery that she drops a couple of levels following such a strong race
7 Sauce On Side  trainer is never afraid to lose a horse to win a race......so the drop out of MSW doesn't bother me much especially here as she only went for $22K in April
2Â Line Drive
3Â Condi
race 3Â Â average clarity
1 Holiday Stone  seems best with a target to run at so I like that George Weaver takes the blinkers off to slow him down some early on........that and he should be primed for a good effort 2nd out after a layoff and with a recent 4F bullet drill
8 A Red Tie Day  4 for 6 at today's distance on the sod (2 for 11 at other turf distances) and gets the right rider to overcome the outer-most post in Corey Nakatani.......good rider/trainer combo to boot
2Â Caribou Club
4Â Kencumin
race 4Â Â average clarity
6 Catfish Hunter  scratched from a MSW route turf race on Sunday where he had a shot at the winners circle for this softer spot where he has a big shot at the winners circle...... if of course he has remained the same physically speaking
7 Sea's Journey  another taking the plunge from MSW racing to maiden claiming.......away since February but Mike Puype is often at his most dangerous with significant drop-downs off of layoffs....and trainer seems due
1Â Insubornination
4Â Quick Finish
race 5Â Â average clarity
6 Peace  solid MSW debut in a race run at 6F at SA.......5 works put in since and the latest one is an eye-opening 6F in 1:11:3 at Dmr.......that and Richard Mandella is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters
4 Shivermetimbers  sprint-sprint-route scenario for this colt's 3rd lifetime start and both sprints are quite strong......and one extremely successful rider/trainer combo at the helm.....seems quite dangerous
8Â He's Stylish
3Â Longden
Long-shot consideration:  9 Point Guard  two very strong stats for Baltas: sprint - sprint - route & blinkers off......two good stats for Baltas: 1st at a route & 1st time gelding.....add to the impressive array of stats 5 tightly spaced solid drills.....and ......you get one dangerous price shot
race 6Â Â average clarity
7 Responsibleforlove  rather consistent grass runner both overseas in the USA......although she she has only 1 win from 5 outings since arriving from Italy....but that win was in her lone race on the Dmr turf and also at today's 11 furlongs
3 Evo Campo  a true marathon runner had her tune-up race on the GG AW and believe will be ready for what she needs as in 11 or 12 furlongs of turf......that and today's rider Bejarano is a perfect 4 for 4 on her when the grass is rated firm
5Â La Manta Gris
2Â Dynamic Mizzes K
Long-shot consideration:  6 Kiss Me Now  toss last as blinkers were tried out to no avail....they come off today....race two back is much better than appears in paper.......race 3 back at one furlong less than today is a fit and her best in 3 USA races......ran some big races in Argentina last winter......has the potential to compete in a big way here
race 7Â Â average clarity
5 Royal Trump  difficult to beat Cerin (or Miller these days especially with a horse that fits well....two year old gelding should be in the picture from the get go and retains a good speed rider in Maldonado who knows him well
8 Royal Bar  might be a good claim by Sadler and company of an Ellis runner on the improve......Sadler is a solid 22% win 1st following a claim with his last 65.......and like our top choice this youngster should be in the hunt from the get go
9Â Warrior's Lullaby
3Â Neighborhood Bully
race 8Â Â average clarity
9 Achira  never an easy task to get a given runner to run a solid two turn grass race in their MSW debut but Shirreffs did just that with this filly...... and he makes a rider upgrade for the 2nd start.....the trainer is solid with 2nd time starters and not to hot with 1st timers which is likely by design
3 Chalky  GB invader last raced on August 31st but is working for D'Amato as if she is ready to roll in her U S of A debut....she didn't race at major track in GB but she was very competitive
5Â Prieta
7Â Red Shelby
2Â Queen of Troy
1Â Golden Kitten
