Del Mar for Saturday 21 July 2018
Decent race card today. Make sure you have the correct publication as Saturday's and Sunday's were both available on Saturday.
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
7 Chasin Lucas  very solid MSW debut breaking a little tardy and then moved up into a decent pace to open up a couple of length lead.......tired late to finish a 3/4L 2nd.........one concern was that she was a vet scratch on 24 June......but recent drills suggest she is doing OK
4 Desired Edge  nicely bred for a Cal-bred filly and her work tab hints she has quite a bit of ability.....in fact I hope her blistering 46 flat gate drill 10 days ago wasn't a little too fast......good trainer/rider combo for a very long time in Baze/Mullins
1 Coco Kisses  in every other mode and she is on the desired end of the oscillator today.......likely rated too low if she brings her "A game"
5Â Queen Shelly Ann
race 2Â Â average clarity
3 Ghostly Who  New Mexico invader is well placed for success at the 16K nw2 level and seemingly has caught a soft bunch in this spot.......and the NM trainer Fincher is solid in all of relevant training categories that apply here
8 Son of a Royal  1st start with Kitchingman as the trainer and he seems to have wisely pointed this six-year old to the Del Mar meet as he has run well on the dirt surface in the past......away almost 3 months but works say ready
7 Michael Mundo  last two races fit very well and he would have been top choice if it wasn't for two dull efforts the only two times this gelding ran on the Dmr surface......new year - new result?.........we shall see at about 2:30 pacific time
4Â Gringo Star
1Â Two Hail Marys
race 3Â Â above average clarity
7 Graycaster  trainer appears to be in go mode and he is shooting for a 3rd straight win for this three-year old gelding.......last is good.....race two back is very good and it was run at today's 6 1/2 furlong distance
6 Horse Greeley  strong race 2 back and he was snatched up by way of the claiming box following the race by Salder......and his 1st out for John was one powerful race running 3rd in a Grade 2 despite a slow start and a wide trip.......does he bounce some off of by far his biggest adjusted for trouble fig of his life?.......recent works hint maybe not
3 Allaboutaction  3 wins and a 2nd (by only a neck) since the blinkers were put on.....and just claimed by Peter Miller who is stout with a speed sprinter who this five-year old happens to be.....very dangerous
4Â Jan's Reserve
race 4Â Â above average clarity
6 Vasilika  what a claim by Hollendorfer as his new fillly is 4 for 4 since the claim when racing on firm turf.......race 2 back would likey do the trick and her latest with a better trip would crush these and then some........1st on the Dmr turf is the only ? mark I can see
1 Barleysugar  by far at her best in one mile turf races and draws a good post......and she is 2 for 5 on the Del Mar grass course......and she appreciates ample time between starts and Mullins wisely gives it to her
7 Algorhythmic  following 4 straight daylight wins down the SA hill this filly fell off of a cliff.......very likely needed some time off and gets it......route turf is not her thing to date but she does appear to be loose here.
9Â Sheeza Milky WayÂ
10Â Moonless Sky
race 5Â Â below average clarity
3 No Treble  decent distant 2nd place finish in his MSW debut run at Lrc in a sizzling 56 flat for the winner......very nice reassuring 4F work since his debut and the drill was at Dmr.....believe he moves forward today and has a shot at winning this usual 150K MC affair
4 Fortnite Dancer  solid drills over at Slr in preparation for today's MC150K.......and Miller is one tough trainer when he shows good drills for a two-year old 1st time starter
6 Mason Dixon  just bought in May for $110K so O'Neill and company got a good look at what they were getting.......and they have to like that they can run in a MC150K and avoid the two-year old monster's that are often brought out at the beginning of the Del Mar meeting......we saw one a few days ago in Brill
2Â It's Gonna Hurt
5Â The Creep
race 6Â Â average clarity
4 Libby's Tell  seems best at a route and it showed in her last in her 1st at a route on the grass......two reassuring works since......good post-rider- and the filly owns some useful tactical speed.....hard not to like
5 Vexatious  believe her last was a needed effort of off the long layoff......lone lifetime grass race is solid here so if she benefited enough from her layoff last she should be a major player today with a good post and rider
9 Tammy's Window  Morey might have the trump card for this four-year old filly as the two turf races since his 26 Jan claim are solid.......Conner is not may favorite turf rider but he has ridden this four-year old well
11Â Jazaalah
7Â Copper Fever
race 7Â Â above average clarity
7 Accererate  towers over this field on G2 runners........4 for 8 in G2 or G1 races since the blinkers were put on.....and overall he is 3 for 5 on the Dmr surface......and last but not last he won the 2017 version of this race by 9 1/2 lengths
4 Two Thirty Five  on the improve with each and every race since R Baltas took over the training duties four races ago......and 3 for 3 for jockey Ceballos when the blinkers were on this gelding........needs even more today or for our top selection to have an off day
1 Catalina Cruiser  108:3 in only his 2nd lifetime race and it was run off of a layoff.......bred nicely to handle the two turns.......Sadler trains our top choice and also the 5 horse and all three have the same owner......so......both the 5 and the 7 are capable of taking back some so my guess is he will be on the lead.......seems dangerous despite the significant step up in class
2Â Dr. Dorr
9 Dabster
race 8Â Â average clarity
2 Ms. Bad Behavior  (4 2 2 0) on the grass so far and two of those four turf races fit well here which includes his only turf route to date........race is loaded with speed so my guess is Desormeaux will sit approximately 4 or 5 lengths behind the leaders similar to what he did in the aforementioned turf route
4 Miss Sienna  The D'A has been much more dangerous with overseas shippers the 2nd start in the USA.......hopefully that is the case here with this filly making her 2nd start today......blinkers go on and with two Improved works.........Mike Smith's lone mount on the card
9 West Palm Beach  race two back run in March is impressive and back to the jock who rode that day......and Prat likely got off the 3 horse who he had back to back wins on to ride this filly once again
10Â War Heroine
1Â Rockin Ready
race 9Â Â average clarity
10 Rowayton  outstanding work tab for this Hollendorfer two-year old colt......that and I sure like his pedigree to appreciate a sprint.......and Jerry H appears to be in "go mode" right now
9 Truck Salesman  O'Neill and company must have loved what they were seeing at sale to pay $230K for this colt by a new sire who has plenty to prove.....works are good.....decent rider/trainer team who often get a "price"
3 Frosted Grace  only cost $10K at sale but training as if that price might be an absolute steal........new trainer Mendez is firing on all cylinders and then some
8Â Magnificent McCool
7Â Synthesis
race 10Â Â above average clarity
1 Dearborn  likely a sprint turf gimme in her MSW debut at Belmont to help muscled her up for her 2nd start a long way from Belmont.......strong drill put in on the grass before getting a plane for Del Mar..........nice dirt work since arriving at Dmr........pedigree screams route.......good/rider team over the years in Van Dyke and Proctor
8 Camino Song  turf trip in her latest hides her lifetime best......shuffled back early and wide some on turn two.......Bejarano will be out to make amends
7 Amuse  trainer is better than average at getting a MSW debut runner to handle a turf route.........pedigree screams turf.....works are numerous and tightly spaced hinting this filly is well-meant in her debut
9Â Innocent
5Â Chiffon
