Del Mar for Wednesday 25 July 2018
Slightly above average card this afternoon. Let's call it a 6 on the 1 to 10 scale of things.
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
4 Duranga  good history sprinting (3 2 0 1) and her lifetime best was her lone race on the Del Mar dirt.......red hot trainer at the helm and Prat who up has won 4 of his last 5 mounts for Hollendorfer
7 Robin's Love  lifetime best in latest in her 1st ever at Dmr on the dirt.........and ..........well placed to succeed this afternoon as the 20K nw3 offered today has the same basic par time as the 25K nw2 she won at......and won at by 4 1/4L.......short rest of only 6 days is a challenge physically or would have been top pick
1 Miz Tianjin  drops quite a bit but she has run for 20K before winning her MC20k by a dozen lengths......back to G. Franco who is 2 for 3 on this filly..........not out of the win picture here by any means
6Â Always Believe
race 2Â Â average clarity
7 Momma's Baby Boy  both lifetime races on the Dmr dirt fit solidly........Hollendorfer is often at his best when he steps up a claiming horse a level or two.......MC40K in last - MC50K today.......nice 6 works series since his latest run on June 8th......seems well prepared for today's race
6 Tidal Effect  moved forward in his latest 1st out following the Bill Morey claim.......returns at the same level 24 days later with two reassuring works put in......and Morey is rather prolific 2nd out following a claim as in 14 wins in his last 45 with 16 others hitting the board
3 Bartlett Hill  rider upgrade..........and.........finally competes at a level that his numbers and running lines fit just fine.......if of course he can handle his 1st on the dirt
2Â Street to Indy
race 3Â Â average clarity
6 Bow and Arrow  sharp win at Lrc off of the 1/2 year layoff in his latest......near bullet work at SA since.......handles the Dmr surface just fine.........record with the blinkers on and no fronts is impressive (4 3 1 0)
1 Louden's Gray  would have made it 3 wins in a row if not for a bad start........and a bad start with only 5 furlongs to work with.......obviously he has shown that the 8K level fits him well.........and........last two times he has had to cope with the 1 post he won
4 Upperclassman  last two races at LA are better than appear in print and hint this four-year old gelding can fit at today's 8K level at Dmr.......and a much improved 4F work since his last supports the notion he is in good form.......should go off a big price
8Â Tomasio
race 4Â Â average clarity
1 Law Abidin Citizen  best ever and a good fit here was his latest which was the only time he has had the blinkers on in a turf race.......they wisely remain on today and we get a jock upgrade.......gelding appreciates ample time between starts and Glatt shows patience and gives it to him
6 Adens Dream  an impressive red-hot weekend for Sadler and he might keep the good times rolling here with this five-year old who is training "lights out" for this 5F turf sprint race
7 Stormy Liberal  only 1 for 4 on the Del Mar turf but it was a big win as he won the 2017 BC turf sprint in 2017 when the BC was at Dmr and at today's 5F.......seemingly not as sharp these days but still very dangerous
5Â Tribilist
race 5Â Â below average clarity
7 Sound Logic  impressive works in June for this 1st time starter and the connections backed off the strong drills some likely not to show too much so as not to get claimed.........and for a small barn Pederson has shown that can get a first time starter ready enough to compete for the win
3 Hoss Cartwright  flashed some tremendous speed for a MC25K in his debut on the GG AW..........likely exited the race in great shape for the trainer to double his claiming price for his 2nd start......1st on conventional dirt is a ? mark
5 Black Storm  there appears to be enough early speed in this affair to flatter the off pace running style of this Lloyd Wicker gelding.....only race this fellow ever ran at Del Mar was his maiden debut and is better than appears in print and turned out to be a key race
1Â Poise to Strike
race 6Â Â average clarity
9 Souter  owns a pedigree that says he should prefer a turf route over a turf sprint......and man did it ever show it in his 1st at a turf route in his latest........earned an adjusted for trouble Santucci fig (2L for break & 6L for being wide) that would crush these with a better trip and with the same effort/energy.......new jock gets a shot in Desormeaux
5Â Jimmy DÂ Â slow to develop but seems to have turned into a useful turf runner now........latest at AP fits but he will likely need our top choice to get another bad trip or fall off form to get a shot at the circle of joy
7 Son of War  had his sprint prep.......nice turf drill since the prep........we will see what he has got today 2nd out after a 3 year layoff
3Â Spa Shackalacka
8Â Extreme Heat
race 7Â Â average clarity
4 Hoppertunity  2 for 2 at the 12 furlong marathon dirt distance.........both races were Graded affairs and his average margin of victory was 4 1/2 lengths......Prat was up for both races.....Baffert is the trainer......a no brainer to put as our top pick-a-rue
5 Full of Luck  five-year old has never trained for Hollendorfer like he is right now........and he has won at about 12F in Chile......the way King Jerry is going these days you can't discount this guys chances despite being disappointing so far in 3 USA starts
3 Little Scotty  gelding likes to lead and lead away from the rail.......if the track was like last week (dead on the inside) that would be a great thing and make him dangerous
2Â Unapologetic
race 8Â Â below average clarity
11 Belle Monte  lone race was run as a two-year old on 16 Nov at 5F on the turf ......the effort was better than appears in print.........not the best of trips and it was a fast heat at 5F on the turf........takes that ever magical MSW to MC drop for his 2nd lifetime start........good looking work tab.......the D'A has been ice-cold but might jump-start things here
14 Sea Glass  woke up in her latest 1st time with the blinkers on.........works since hint she exited the race in good shape...........when this filly got into the field from the AE list Asa Espinoza jumped off of our 3rd choice to ride this filly..........last fits decently but she likely will build off her improved effort
12 Red Bomber  like D'Amato Baltas is cold and could use a win.........three year old filly ran well off of a long hiatus from the game in her last.......she should be a major player in this race is she can run as well on the Dmr surface as she did at Lcr in her layoff last
5Â Omerta
4Â Baby Ice
6Â Veiled Heat
