6  Popular Kid   very powerful race turf to dirt last Spring.......solid better than it appears in print turf race in last.....dirt today.....believe this gelding is sitting on a top dirt effort today

1  Shaymin   good layoff run in latest in his 1st on the Dmr dirt at only one furlong less today........seems likely to move forward some 2nd out following the 2 1/2 month break.......unless the 2 turns do him in he should end up being a major player in the outcome of this race

2  Fashionably Fast   exits the same race as our top selection earning about the same number........and like our 2nd choice he might move forward 2nd out following a couple of month break........1st at a route is a question mark as it is not exactly the trainer's forte

8  Concord Jet   takes that ever magical drop from MSW racing to maiden claiming......and.....does so as a 1st time gelding and with just what you want to see as improved a.m. work.......trainer Koriner is having a very good Dmr meeting

7  Irish Terrier   fired lifetime best in latest and might be up for even more today back in 15 days as he has shown he can handle short rest........and trainer Miyadi is waking up from a short-lived slump

4  Unplayable   decent MC debut and the strength of the effort is disguised by a wide trip and checking some in the race.......Machowski smartly & deservedly steps him up in maiden claiming.........two-year old might not live up to his name today

7  Chasin Lucas   filly has done little wrong in 2 lifetime starts......she is facing many battle weary foes with 11 starts or more......advantage to the new kid on the block and hopefully with the fewest physical issues in the race

4  Powder   claimed by the ever dangerous Peter Miller who over a long period of time wins with about one-third of time with his "1st out following a claim" runners.......and he entices Prat to ride.....such a deal

5  Princess Kendra   significant improvement in her latest in a race run at the lowly 8K claiming level.....big step up but if she builds off of her last she might be able to handle the multi-level class rise

2  Tale of the Union   very expensive NY bred is wound up like a top with 7 tightly spaced works (6 or 7 day intervals) dating back to June.......that and when Baffert works a horse 4 straight times out of the gate he almost always means business with a two-year old 1st timer

8  Stubbins   nice MSW debut setting a fast quarter and still managing to hold on for 2nd and still ran a par like time......rider upgrade to Prat but if Gutierrez chose our third selection over this fellow that might make the jock upgrade less significant

6  Mo Dinero   two-year old colt only went for 40K in March but he is working as if that might be quite the bargain for Hollendorfer and company.......and his best work was his last work.......feeling good when it counts the most as in right before his debut

10  K P's Smokin   very strong 10 length dirt win 1st time at a route to graduate in his last.......switches to a route turf race at a level higher.......but her last number is better than par for the level and she ran even better on the grass (albeit at 5F) and the effort is hidden by a very bad trip

2  Sea Sensation   filly has done little wrong in 4 lifetime races  and would have won the 3 August version of this race if not for a bad trip (way too wide throughout)..........would have been top choice if Cassidy wasn't so cold as in 1 for 35 thru Friday

9  Mo See Cal   likely needs more than his latest despite her 2nd place finish at today's level but might provide more back in short rest which he has responded to positively in the past......and then there is the Miller/Prat factor

2  Neon Gypsy   last two races (with two different trainers) were run at today's level and were quite a bit better than par.......a 3rd different conditioner today off of the claim......that trainer Vann Belvoir has had a tough year including 1st following a claim.......he seemingly has a shot at jump-starting his mojo here if he can just get this filly to hold form

9  Topaz Time   might be a good claim by Paul Aguirre as 2 of this mare's last 3 dirt races since the blinkers were taken off fit well here.....and it seems like a really good sign that Gary Stevens rides thru claim especially in a cheap claiming race

6  Summer Down Now   last sure appears to be a gimme and the fact she went off at 70 to 1 in a 9 horse field supports the notion........likely a go today........races 3 and 4 back fit and her race 3 back was her best to date and was run at today's 6 1/2 furlong distance

4  Fizzy Friday   Philip D'Amato has many impressive stats but maybe his best is the sprint-route-sprint maneuver.......as in 42% win & 68% in the money with his last 31.....that is the case today for this four-year old filly who likely will be flying late

2  Rubilinda   class act (but in a slump) Richard Mandella picks up a nice east coast filly and seemingly has a good spot for her in this 5F turf sprint.....filly has done little wrong in 6 career starts all of which were on the grass.....she has been away since May 10th but Mandella is very solid off of layoffs of 90 days or more

8  Surrender Now   3 for 3 in abbreviated sprint races of 5 1/2F or less and one of them was on the grass and at Del Mar......Miller is awfully good in turf sprints and the Van Dyke/Miller combo is awfully hot these days

9  Distinctive B   giant race run last July at Dmr and the strength of the race is disguised.......that race was run off of a 6 1/2 month layoff.......7 1/2 month layoff run today.......loves the distance.......believe he is ready and if he is ready he should be tough from start to finish for Miller and company

1  All Out Blitz   progressively got better as a two-year old.......with that in mind it makes sense that this colt likely needed (and was given) a race.......if that is so and he is ready for his best he has a shot at the circle of joy in this affair

7  Acceptance   turf tightener in last and if it muscled this fellow up and he is feeling good he owns some powerful back numbers that might pull off an upset .........trainer Ken Black's runners have not been a dismal as his 10 0 2 0 record at the meet would suggest

2  Thirteen Squad   just ran her lifetime best nearly winning a Grade 2 where she dealt with a prolonged stretch battle.....Baffert wisely gives her ample time off to recovery.......her works are stellar and on the Del Mar surface........believe she is going to run her lifetime best today

4  Lemoona   strong 6 1/2 length one mile win to graduate in December at Aqu for Bill Mott......next race was on 27 July at Dmr for her new trainer Richard Baltas who also got a strong one mile race out of her.......two reassuring drills since her last.......likely needs a forward move today and she seems likely to make one......if she does - to what degree is the question mark

9  Just Grazed Me   crushed her foes in both lifetime races which were sprints but extended sprints of 6 1/2 and 7F........best of 63 5F bullet drill since.......plenty of upside potential and with the right guy at the helm in the D'A

8  Fast Cotton   quite the makeover.....1st time racing as a gelding.......1st time racing with the blinkers on......new jock........that and back to back good-looking 4F speed drills in preparation for today.....and last but not least he takes a multiple level drop in MC

6  Flynn   very strong drills for someone like Miyadi who often doesn't push them too hard in the a.m.......lifetime best was his debut so he has shown he can fire fresh.....3 months fresh today.......very dangerous

13 AE   Street Zombie    both life sprint races run at Del Mar fit fine here if he draws into the field for Bob Hess and company........and the 5 1/2 furlong offered here appears to fit him well
