Del Mar for Wednesday 29 August 2018

OK card today to start the 6 straight days of racing at Del Mar.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Vibrance   very strong MSW route turf debut in the 29 July version of this race and the strength of the effort is disguised by about 6 or 7L of trip trouble........pedigree to handle the dirt is good........and we get one significant upgrade in jocks

7  Keeper Ofthe Stars   exits a fast heat of MSW runners where he still ran a par like effort despite being beaten by 5 1/2L for the win........and you have to like that Smith (only mount of the day) stays with the Hollendorfer filly for her 1st at a route as he has won 21 of his last 50 route races

5  Ask the Customer   Proctor is stout turf to dirt which is the case here........dirt sprint 2 back was a better than it looks MSW debut at Lrl......Van Dyke lands on the our top pick.....Stevens will do just fine

4  Giza Goddess

race 2    above average clarity

4  Just Kidding   last race fits OK but what we want out of this six-year-old is his effort 2 back which was a very strong effort/fig and turned out to be a key race.....also like the switch in riders and not everyone will

5  Avanti Bello   last might have been nothing more than a spin around the track likely to dirty up this gelding to keep the claiming vultures at bay to get away with the multiple drop in claiming.......and back to Prat who won on the filly two races back in a 25K race........that supports the notion

3  Bay Area   seems best on conventional dirt and this seven-year old appears well placed at the 16K level to succeed.......and high percentage trainer Jonathan Wong has not messed around when he ships in as (4 2 1 0) at the Dmr meeting so far

7  Banza No Oeste

race 3    above average clarity

6  Disco Tale   improving with every start and now gets a monumental rider upgrade from a 0 for 50 bug boy to a Hall of Fame jock.......hard not to like this Palma filly this afternoon

5  Midnight Miracle   obviously a bad claim for MC80K to show up in a MC32K but the fact that Stevens takes the mount for Hess hints this filly is OK physically speaking but just not as talented as the new connections had hoped

7  Curryforthree Bang   not crazy about this youngster's debut as she did not win despite a very slow pace and running 3 wide which on 2 August was with the track bias.......but as good as Miller is going she might show more today and if she does she should be a major player

9  Miss Bennet

1  Gee Cee Cee

race 4    average clarity

7  So Long Sailor   Peter Miller drops to grab another win to his already gaudy win totally........heck with the win total - how about in the exacta 52 of the 92 he has started........connections might be chanting their gelding's name after the race as he is likely will get claimed

3  Topgallant   consistent sort who appears in need of a drop.......and gets it today.......trainer sure could use a win......same for the rider.......hard not to root

1  Hard Arch   like the change in bug boys (sorry Asa Espinoza fans) and the fact that this colt gets to run back off of shorter rest today......and his last run which was off of 2+ months rest is better than it appears in print

8  Wise Curlin

2  Schoenhardt

race 5    Below average clarity

10  No Thanks Erik   not an easy post in a 5F race but the track was outside on Sunday and so I leaning on that it will remain that way to some extent today........if the track turns out to be even then this O'Neil baby is rated too high

5  Zip's Secret   last preparatory work of 5F (6 days ago) is quite a bit better than what he has been working and that is rather subtle............like the switch to Asa Espinoza as even though Belvoir has struggled he hasn't when he rides Asa

9  La Dolfina   trainer starts very few and really doesn't have much success but the works for this 1st time starter look too good to ignore......that and the last time Greenman had a 1st timer his runner hit the board

7  Rolinga

2  Lucky Flash

race 6    average clarity

4  Hot American   strong first time in a marathon in his latest which was the 1 August version of this 11F turf race.....he ran wide yet still managed to close fast late and earned a good fig

3  Oscar Dominquez   good history in marathon races like this 11 furlong test when the turf is firm......should be firm today........(3 0 1 1) at the distance and the lone time this gelding missed the board at the distance he had little shot to run as he sat dead last in a race that had a ridiculously slow pace

2  Starting Bloc   trainer is a shocking four for eight at the Del Mar meeting and he sure got a vastly improved effort from this colt in his latest......that and his pedigree to handle his 1st marathon race is awfully strong

7  Amazon Cry

11  Tartini

race 7    above average clarity

7  Creative Instinct   filly won her MSW debut like a good thing and she did so running too close to the rail on the lead on a day the inside was dull......I like that the race was at today's 6F distance as there are only two others that have run as far as 6F and they both ran poorly......good combo in Miller/Baze

5  Mucho Unusual   never easy to do and a good sign of a sound 1st starter to get a two-year old filly to hit the track at 6 day intervals like this filly has for Yakteen......wound up like a top and ready to unwind.......tall tash to win a Stakes race in your debut but if our top choice falters she might have a shot at doing just that today

4  Dichotomy   tossed a disappointing race albeit versus tougher in her latest......needs a rebound to her effort two back and likely a little more.......maybe the equipment change can help get her there

race 8    average clarity

2  Indoctrination   all 5 of his lifetime grass races fit at today's lower level.......that and the 9F of turf to cover appears to be a plus and it won't be for many of these maidens.......away since mid January but the D'A logically drops him into a MC for the 1st time so I doubt this is a tune-up

7  Tequila Blanco   new trainer.......new rider.......makes an equipment change.......four-year old gelding has tried hard in all 3 lifetime grass races but his efforts average a couple of lengths less than what it usually takes to win the MC62.5K level.........so........we are banking on the changes making a difference

5  Dignitaire   very strong turf race two back.....fell off some in latest.......like his chances if he mounts a rebound......T C Baze sticks around hoping his mount provides one.......trainer could use his 2nd win of 2018.......might have a shot to get it here

6  Data Central

1  culpable

4  King Caymus
