Del Mar for Saturday 1 September 2018
Sure like the Saturday race card offered this afternoon. Two more days of racing to go at the Del Mar meeting after today.
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
7 Beau Square gave this Carava filly the "best horse mark" in the 15 August version of the 5F alw race......she broke slowly and ran wide on the turn.....added up to 5 1/2 lengths of trip trouble.....only lost by 1 1/2L for the win.....trainer has been reliable of late.......T C Baze will be out to make amends
10 Great Return  bet hard in her MSW debut and did not disappoint breaking her MSW in an effort that fits just fine at today's higher level........Prat stays put.......hard not to like
4 Navajo Dreamer  better than it appears effort in the 15 August version of this race.......blocked a couple of lengths in the stretch and when she got free she still had some run in her......new jock for today and that jock Stewart Elliot got the best out of this filly in his lone mount on her 3 races back
8Â Red Shelby
1Â Ladybug
race 2Â Â average clarity
7 Lady Ninja  plenty to like here....trainer has been on a roll of late........filly is a perfect 3 for 3 at the distance......and when the connections have put her up for sale on the dirt she is a perfect 2 for 2.......up for a tag today
3 Duranga  Kristin Mulhall just claimed and she is by far at her most dangerous 1st out following claim.......that and Pratt rides thru the change in trainers and that is more significant than it usually is as he is (4 3 0 1) on this filly in dirt sprints
8 Time and Chance  good effort 1st out after the Glatt claim and impressive speed works since.......that and the step up in claiming hint this gal is ready for better......and if she is she fits awfully well in this spot
1Â Royal Asscher
4Â Moon Kitty
race 3Â Â average clarity
8 Causeway Carolyn  last is much stronger than appears in print as the bug boy gave her a bad ride.......see yah apprentice......hello Flavien Prat.........who just happens to be 7 for his last 10 riding for D'Amato......yikes-o-rama
12 Miss Boom Boom  nasty post but Gutierrez has given this mare some nice rides in many of his mounts on her.........1st after the Cerin claim and that is usually a very dangerous proposition for the opposition as in 35% win with his last 50.........mare is (10 3 4 0) at the distance on the turf to boot
3 War Moccasin  consistent four-year old filly fits fine here and has a good post for Elliot to work with.......the question seems to be if is can she handle the rigors of racing off of only 12 days rest......we shall likely get the answer about 3 pm pacific
4Â Ransomed
9Â The Spiral Jetter
race 4Â Â above average clarity
5 Bellafina  best pace figs......best final time fig......recent best of 62 bullet five furlong work just put in a week ago.......Callaghan does well in these early Graded races for two-year old runners.......Prat stays put......hard not to like
2 Brill  very strong MSW debut and her work tab since reinforces the idea that she is a potential superstar......and Jerry Hollendorfer sure knows how to handle a young filly
4 Mother Mother  another with a winning eye-popping MSW debut......definitely not out of the win picture but Van Dyke took our 2nd choice and it is not easy to say "no" to a Baffert horse that you just won by 6 1/2 lengths on
race 5Â Â above average clarity
8 Much Better  tightly spaced works.......3 straight progressively better 5F gate works and then an endurance building 6F drill......once again Mr Baffert has a 1st timer ready to roll at 1st asking......one amazing trainer with young dirt horses.......and with his success the "stock" he gets $$$$$$ only gets better
4 Gum Tree Lane  copious drills put into the D'Amato 1st time starter and his works for the most part got progressively better........rather sure this colt is ready to rock n roll
2 Union Station  useful debut was likely a tune-up because Eoin Harty isn't much with 1st time starters but he is dynamite with 2nd timers to the tune of 24 wins with his last 75
3Â Surprise Fashion
6Â Lacazette
race 6Â Â average clarity
9 Tonahutu  two 2nd's in two U S of A endeavors for this Dan Blacker filly......one at 5F on the turf and one at 1 1/16th on the grass........continues to work like a happy healthy individual and Prat stays put.......hard not to like
7 Wind Tartare  consistent grass filly was just snatched up at the claiming box by Peter Miller and he puts up Van Dyke.....and that folks makes for one very dangerous proposition for the opposition........as in 5 wins with their last 12 as a team
6 Jazaalah  very consistent when competing at today's one mile distance on firm turf.......that and she just put in an improved 5 furlong drill hinting she is ready for a top effort today for a trainer (and rider for that matter) who could use a win
2Â Travieza
8Â Queen Bee to You
race 7Â Â average clarity
4 Curly's Waterfront  solid improvement off of the 4 month layoff and seems likely to move forward as the trainer shows confidence in him as he steps him up a little.......and.......the gelding has a good history of producing better 2nd out after a layoff
8 Johnny Strong  might be a good claim by Belvoir as this colt could have easily made it back to back wins but was compromised in his latest by a brutal trip........broke 4L slow and then ran 4 wide........that and it seems significant that Prat with the meets riding title in his sights elects to ride for a small low % barn
9 Candyman Garret  turf to dirt angle........drops significantly and at a track that he has one win and a 2nd in two lifetime starts........should be in the hunt from the get go
6Â Raindance Rules
1Â Laditude
race 8Â Â average clarity
1 Shadow Sphinx  nicely improved off of the 3+ month break for Baltas........sizzling 4F work since........likely feeling really good.........and ready to move forward for the trainer to move him up so much
10 Raven Creek  three-year old colt does well dealing with solid fractions and holding together........trainer is having one of his best race meetings in a very long time......T C Baze knows this fellow inside and out as he has been up for all of his races
8 Extrordinary Jerry  three-year old when last seen back on the 26th of November made quite the break thru with the best effort of his 4 race career and the strength of the effort is disguised........work tab sure hints O'Neill has him ready fresh off of the bench......maybe because the big Nov effort was the only time he ran on the Dmr turf
12Â Secular Nation
4Â Prince Earl
race 9Â Â above average clarity
8 Magic On Tap  powerful work tab for this Baffert two-year old colt 1st timer.........plenty of endurance put in likely to handle the 6 1/2 furlong sprint distance......should be tough as nails
3 Gray Magician  impressive MSW debut and the strength of the effort is somewhat hidden by a bad trip........ran wide and was checked 2 or 3 lengths in the stretch.........yet.......he still was able to close fast for 3rd
7 Extra Hope  might not have been all that cranked up for his decent MSW debut as he went off at 19 to 1.....if that is the case he might be much more fit this afternoon and make for a dangerous 2nd time starter
4Â Truck Salesman
2Â Admiral Brown
race 10Â Â average clarity
7 Cambodia  back to back G2 wins at Del Mar in 2017 and she has a very good chance at doing it once again in the same Grade 2 races in 2018........seems best at 9F as she is (2 1 0 1) at the distance with a G2 win last year in the 2017 version of this race and in her only other 9F turf race she ran a 1 3/4 beaten lengths 3rd in the Grade 1 BCFMTrf Â
9 Valilika  a perfect 5 for 5 with Prat aboard and her figs earned in her last two races with wide trips sure support the idea that she fits in this Grade 2 affair.......and after carry 129 lbs and 124 lbs she will appreciate only 119 lbs on he back today
1 Meal Ticket  another who deserves a shot at "the big time" as she has had quite a spring & summer in 2018......one concern though is that Baze elects to ride our 5th choice instead of her
2Â Shopie
6Â Cordiality
race 11Â Â average clarity (SHF carryover of $61,379.09)
10 Magical Gray  solid 5F turf MSW debut both in pace and final time for this Victor Garcia three-year old filly.......that and the race sure appeared to be a tune-up for her 2nd start on the dirt back in 13 days
4 Giveherdalute  Baffert 1st time starter with 3 gate works to finish up his work regiment........that signals he is likely meant and ready for his MSW debut.......what's new?
2 See That Kat  can't recall a Baltas 1st time starter wound up like this filly who has worked at 5 or 6 day intervals dating back to 18 July.......rather sure Richard has this one very fit and ready
9Â Kindred
3Â Creative Cause
8Â Tivat
