Del Mar for Friday 16 November 2018
Rail speed bias on the dirt yesterday so I am slightly leaning towards the idea that the rail will be biased to some degree once again today.
Best of luck as always!
race 1Â Â average clarity
2 Baby Frankie  trainer is stout route to sprint which is the case today........and........his two year old just popped the most impressive drill of his life 6 days ago.......Desormeaux brothers are starting to heat things up some
3 Two Fifty Coup  benefited from an inside speed bias in his last start on 13 Oct and ran a fig that fits fine here.......and if the track plays similar to yesterday he can once again
6 Swamp Souffle  big awakening in his 2nd lifetime start (and disguised in its strength some) with the blinkers taken off.....two very reassuring 5F drills since the 19 Oct race.......should have plenty of late run at today's 6 1/2F distance coming off of a one mile race......hot jock up.......hard not to like
race 2Â Â average clarity
5 Don't Stalk Me  nice win at today's level in his latest.........two sharp 4F drills since........good history at Dmr and also at today's 6F distance.......Ron Ellis is solid stat wise with claimers making repeat wins
4 Colormemoney  might be a decent claim by Tim McCanna of a fairly consistent three-year old who is 2 for 4 at today's distance and (5 2 1 0) at Dmr on the dirt.........gelding has a good history when he stalks the lead and that should be the case today
3 Gringo Star  blinkers on might help this Puype three-year grab the lead and that would enhance his chances of taking down this race.........bad race in last but take note that his two lifetime wins came off of bad races
race 3Â Â average clarity
6 Caecilius  Spawr MSW 1st time starter owns a solid pedigree to handle the grass......the conditioner doesn't start many 1st timers at the MSW level but you better take note when he does as in 3 for his last 6 and with one other hitting the board
1 Haydens Havoc  par like race on the dirt for today's MSW level in his latest ..........and........ mom has tossed two grass winners.......rider/trainer are one hot combo over the last two months as in 5 for their last 11.......seems fairly likely to handle the grass and if he does he should be a major factor in the outcome of this race
2 Bold Endeavor  sharp vastly improved works following his MSW debut which was down the SA hill.....in his race he showed good early speed but weakened.......doubt he "weakens" so easily today
3Â Truck Salesman
4Â Ka'nah
race 4Â Â average clarity
4 Dominating Woman  filly won turf route to dirt route two races back.......turf sprint to dirt sprint this time around and the only time this four ran in a sprint she ran her top effort of her career.......all that and she appears as if she will get loose on the lead here
3 Steph Being Steph  does well when she can stalk the lead and that sure appears what she will do in this spot.......trainer has been hot of late and in general he has had one of his better years in quite some time
6 Spring Lily  2 for 2 at today's 6 1/2 furlongs with John Shirreffs as the trainer and one of those wins was with today's rider Gary ageless Stevens aboard.........like our 2nd choice he will also look to stalk our top choice
1Â Kelly's Humor
race 5Â Â average clarity
5 Its Five Somewhere  following 3 straight MSW races this colt is back where he started as in a MC50K affair.........blinkers back on and back at Del Mar both look like positives for this youngster who should fit very well at the MC50K level
1 Starring John Wain  nice improvement with the blinkers added in his latest.......apprentice rider upgrade from one that is struggling to one that is not......that and one hot trainer the last month or so in Jerry Hollendorfer
4 Ultra Lucky  flashed speed in his maiden debut and then put on the breaks........but he had an excuse as he dueled on a dull inside........back in a quick 20 days and yet still managed to work five furlongs........that hints he is feeling good......speed rider stays up and this seemingly is a good spot for a speed horse
9Â Handsome John
8Â Sea of Liberty
race 6Â Â below average clarity
4 Avanti Bello  Cerin is dynamite first off of a claim as in 35% win and 63% in the money......that is the case today and you have to like that he gets Prat (who he seldom rides) to take the mount as he owns two wins and a 2nd in three mounts on the six-year-old who is awfully consistent of late
6 Just Kidding  very popular six-year-old at the claiming box and why not as he seems to show up almost every time.......and today he starts 1st off of the claim for Hollendorfer who is quite a bit more successful than the other trainers who have had this fellow
1 Crown the Kitten  major league rider upgrade for this Gus Headley six-year-old who sure is consistent on main track surfaces including Del Mar.......plenty of speed in this affair can flatter this gelding's late kick
5Â Mercer Island
3Â Ferguson
race 7Â Â above average clarity
4 Retro  filly is proven fresh and outside of her MSW debut win that is somewhat hidden.......that and her only race at today's 9F turf distance fits well here........and I sure like the switch pack to Prat
6 K P Pergoliscious  not too shabby at 56 to 1 in a G3 in her latest beating 10 of her 13 foes......that and I sure like this youngster's win 3 back off of short rest and run one mile turf to 1 1/16 turf.........she is racing off of short rest today as well and this time one mile turf to 1 1/8 turf
1 Kodiak West  Prat likely took our top choice but Van Dyke will do just fine........filly lacked room in her latest which was her 1st in the USA or she could have been much closer at the wire......since the 11 Aug race she has been very busy working a dozen times........Drysdale has had a fountain of youth year and might add to his 19% win total here
5Â Sappho
8Â Pacific Strike
race 8Â Â average clarity
1 Blaze of Glory  nice improvement with the blinkers taken off in his latest.......race doesn't have much speed and he has some......that and so far he has been a good gate horse in his 8 race career.........should be a major player in the outcome of this race if he manages to hold form
3 Bitter Ring Home  first on the dirt but owns a pedigree for it that for me is better for the dirt than the turf.......spotty 5 career races so the drop to the bottom makes sense
4 Elevate  lifetime best and by quite a bit was his lone race to date on the Del Mar dirt which was the 31 August version of this one mile MC20K affair.........nice to see an improved (and the improvement is subtle) 4F drill since his last run only 19 days ago......so so 7 lbs bug boy but he has been at his best in route races
